3.0Bottle from Booths, Ripon. Bright amber coloured with a rich malty, nutty and toffee flavour with red fruit and almond on the smooth bitter finish.
3.5Maker: Broughton Ales, Biggar, Scotland ***
Beer: Broughton Merlin’s Ale (bottled, 500ml) ***
Style: Bitter (?!) ***
ALC.VOL.: 4.2% ***
"A light golden hoppy beer with a malty character, a clean dry hop-bitter aftertaste and a delicate floral hop aroma." [brewery note] ***
Colour: Light, slightly hazy amber with a small, fluffy off-white head. ***
Nose: Flowery hops, caramel malt, citrus. ***
Texture: Medium body, hardly watery. Moderate carbonation. ***
Taste: Biscuit malt, a sharp herbal & citrusy note at first. Pine. Resinous(!) towards the middle, with floral hops, pine, black tea. Finish is resinous pine against set against malt, with a moderately long after taste of pine and lemon. ***
Impressions: Not really a "bitter" (Thanks!), more of a pale ale. Pine, floral hops and citrus aren’t typical of the English bitter style. Nice, thirst-quenching pale ale then, with a nice malty backdrop but a dominance of hops.
3.250cl bottle. Pours light hazy amber with a medium beige head. Aroma of mild hops, citrus, flowers, red malt. Taste is malty, caramel, nuts, citrus, resinous.
2.6DØE. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, light grainy and slightly buttery. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet and light bitter finish. 290515
2.8Bottle at KØ15. Golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, caramel, fruit, grass and herbal notes.
2.3* Bottle. Pours golden, with a tan head.
* Aroma is medium, grain, malt, strong cheese, toffee & grass.
* Palate is medium body, high carbonation, very fine bubbles.
* Taste is biscuit malt, tangy, then floral.
* Finish is bitter, light, pine, high carbonation.
* Overall strong cheese aroma, high carbonation.
2.9Brown bottle, Morrison’s. 0.5L. Pours medium amber, transparent, no head. Scent is medium to light pale malts with a slightly sweet aroma. Taste is fizzy, pleasantly bitter, and with hoppy fruit notes. FInish is slightly harsh. Good.
3.150 cl bottle that almost exploded when opening and made a mess on the table. Very light amber color, short white head, floral smell. Biscuits malts upfront with floral hops. Taste is flattish, slightly bitter, average carbonation. Light body, watery texuture, hoppy finish. Quaffable bitter.
3.0Bottle from Booths in Ripon. Pours golden with a thin off-white head. A pretty standard malt dominated bitter. Mostly toasty with a little citrus and spice. Quite high carbonation. Goes down easy enough, but unspectacular.
3.4Keg at the Standing Order. Pours amber, nose is cheesy toffee, floral, taste is sweet chewy toffee, caramel, light fruit, cold.
3.1500ml Bottle from Aldi Supermarket, Scotland (£1.59):
Some hops & earthy notes with a few grassy ones alongside a touch of sweetness & freshly cut grass. Biscuit malts & some floral notes with some light grain feature but the beer isn’t the strongest on the nose, although balance is good.
Clear, medium amber with a foamy white head that stops just short of being patchy.
Biscuit malts & faint sweetness, a slight tang initially with nice floral flavours backed up by caramel & a bitter aftertaste. Some earthy hops round things off.
Light-medium & smooth, although there was the odd touch of grain. Dry with moderate carbonation & a fair balance although the mouthfeel seemed the weak link in this beer, only just though.
Started not too badly at all with a nice hoppy taste & bitterness but to be honest it was a fairly standard beer & it wasn’t too exciting either sadly. It’s drinkable but not great, nor is it one I’ll pick up again I’m afraid.
3.2mber brown, good head. Grain resin toffee malt aroma. Flowery toffee flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A standard traditional Scottish bitter.
3.2500ml bottle. A fairly average blonde ale with a slightly over bitter hop finish. Not much depth to this but it is decent nonetheless. Dry and refreshing.
2.8500ml bottle, thanks to Rev.
Small white head, good lacing, clear golden amber body. Faint grassy hops on the nose. Flavour is straw, a little caramel, bready finish. A little bitterness on the aftertaste. Decent mouthfeel if unspectacular, medium carbonation. Not bad for a golden ale.

2.5(Bottle). Smell and taste of fruit, caramel malt and hops. Overall fairly vague flavorings.
2.9Une blonde sans grand relief mais qui se laisse bien descendre.
Bonne petite amertume sur le final.
2.5Bottle from Morrisons (I think).
Poured an orange/ amber colour with a quickly dissipating white head. Looked more like soda than beer. Aroma of caramel and sweets with a little citrus hoppyness. Initial grassy and unripened fruit bitterness, balanced by some residual toffee malt sweetness.
2.8A golden ale with a small head and a lightly hopped aroma. Has a small dry sweetness for taste.
2.3Amber with a lacy, soapy, frothy thin, lasting, head. Smells of toasted malt, caramel with some fruity elements. Medium thin body. The carbonation brings a astringent element to the taste. Tastes of malt and caramel. Borring average poorly carbonated bitter.
2.8Il classico bitterone, molto biscottato che comunque scende bene, ma che come goduria, dieri anche no...
3.1Pours a darker golden color with a moderate head. As you’d expect, good level of bitterness to it that doesn’t come from overt hoppiness.
3.40.5L bottle. Aroma is crisp! Well-balanced beer, leaning towards hoppy. Big, full taste & body (great aftertaste). Pleasant and appropriate at room temp. My favorite in the "bitter" style so far.
3.1Bottle. Poured a dirty orange cooper color with a fizzy white head. Aroma was banana, caramel, and a lot of malts. Flavor was mild bitters, malts and more malts. Kind of weaker body. Not the best beer but still pretty drinkable. Kind of steep in price. $5.99 for a 16.9 oz bottle.
2.8Pours a clear gold with a small white head. Smells of bread, herbs. Taste is moderately sweet with a hint of hops, fairly smooth but not a powerful flavor.
3.2Pours a dirty brown-gold with a short soapy off white head....huge carbonation in pour.....cascades of bubbles in the body.
Scent is vague...florals and caramel.
Taste is a nice caramel and hops...a little fruity and nutty..
Very pleasant bitterness....a little biscuit.
Quite nice.
3.3500ml bottle from Robbie’s Drams, Ayr - pours deep golden with a foamy off-white head, caramel and floral hop aroma, taste is caramel and bit of fruit, quite smooth, high carbonation
3.1500ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a small white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is light caramel malts and some flowery hops. Taste is light caramel malty sweetness with a pleasing mild hop bitterness. Light to medium body and good amount of carbonation. A decent bitter which is one I would like to try again, but seems to have disappeared from this part of the world.
3.0Poured a slightly hazy amber color. Aroma of honey and corn. Taste is a bit watery with lots of sweet vegetables. Very drinkable and smooth. Decent!
