3.1 0,5 litre Bottle from Systembolaget Charlottenberg. Dark brown with light brown head. Malts, hops, yeast, Caramel, Fruity, some herbal bitterness.
3.8 A pleasant and balanced British ale Clear deep ruby in the glass and a fine tan head Good lacing. Looks fine and inviting Fine intensity in the aroma. Also a pleasant carbonation level Easy to drink Bready, fruity, herbal and caramel malt in the flavor [Bottle from Systembolaget in Sweden] Brewery #2364
3.3 Bottle at Lillhardal. Dark amber / chestnut body and white head. Sweet notes of dark fruit and caramel. Warming winter ale.
3.4 Mahogny med fint beige skum. Doftar fruktigt, lite maltigt.
3.9 Bottle from Systembolaget. Malty smell with caramel and some dried fruit. Similar taste. Nice!
3.0 Brown with a frothy head. Aroma of candy and mixed grains. Taste is mildly sweet up front, bittersweet at the back with a dollop of caramel. Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation. Simple, there’s not a lot going on.
3.7 Bottle 500ml. Clear, reddish brown. Beige dense head. Caramel and toffee, rather sweet. Taste is concentrated on sweet pears, dark berries and slightly bready notes. Low bitterness - very smooth carbonation.
3.4 I huvudsak en rökig doft av torkad frukt och melass. Fruktig smak med en ganska hög och ihängande bäska. Viss rökig eftersmak. Känns ganska alkoholstark trots "bara" 6,7 procent.
3.4 500ml bottle served cellar temperature in a straight pint glass. Dark Amber ale, with thin beige head. Roasted malt, with a hint of caramel aroma. Slightly sweet Malty, carmal flavour with a hint of coffee and marmite. Malty after taste. Drinks a lot easier than many ales of this strength.
3.8 Pours a clear'ish, brown'ish amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt and dark/red fruits, with notes of fig, plum and cranberry, as well as hints of toffee and honey. Taste is a good balance of quite, dark, bready, slightly caramelly malt, dark fruit and red berries, with notes of fig, plum and cranberry, as well as hints of toffee, brown sugar, spice and bitterness. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness, and toffee sweetness, as well as some dark/red fruit and brown sugar lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. This makes for a nice, relatively light Scotch Ale that may not be quite as rich as some, but makes up for that with a great, fruity character and good balance. Although the red and dark fruits really take the spotlight here, along with some toffee and brown sugar, those subtle bitter and spicy accents make sure that this never gets too cloying, while this still feels richer than the ABV might suggest. Overall, this makes for an enjoyable Scotch Ale that's a bit more easy-drinking and on the fruity side, while still featuring a good complexity for the ABV, along with a very pleasant balance.
3.8 Bottle from Michaels Drinks, Yardley, Birmingham. Clear dark brown with small beige head, nice retention. Aroma is very malty with caramel, light chocolate, some citrus and floral hop. Taste is caramel, chocolate, raisins, citrus zest, light spice, bitter finish. Very enjoyable.
4.1 500ml Bottle from Tesco, Edinburgh. Dark brown-copper coloured with a thin white head of foam. It has a plum, dried fruit and liquorice flavour followed by chocolate and rich dried fruit on the smooth plum finish. Excellent!
3.6 Old rating from Nov 2014 - 500ml bottle, pours dark brown with a off white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, hints of spice & roasted malt. Medium body. Moderate bitter finish
3.3 Pours a ruby red colour. Taste is quite malty with some berry fruit and toffee. Quite drinkable considering the abv
3.7 Butelka. Ciemny, mahoniowy kolor z rubinowym refleksem. Piana, wysoka, biała, zanika powoli. Estetyczne. W zapachu i smaku przede wszystkim sporo karmelu i słodu, susz owocowy, rodzynki, figi, trochę czerwonych jagód, palony, brązowy cukier, wszystko to zamykają posmaki skórki chlebowej, ciastek i ciemnego ciasta. Przyjemnie oleiste o małym wysyceniu i umiarkowanej słodyczy. Weszło za szybko....
3.2 Bottle from A Hoppy Place, Windsor. Aroma is sweet, almonds, berries, toffee, with coffee hints. Opaque dark chestnut brown. Bubbly beige head soon thins out bar a few islands and a ring around the rim. Light bitter. Coffee. Tangy sour edge. Develops an underlying sickly sweetness but the coffee bitterness reasserts itself into the finish. Ends up with a plasticky/acetone effect. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Astringent finish. Alright but doesn't seem.to work very well in term of balance and flavour. And unlike the description on the label it's barely rich and not full-bodied.
3.2 Dark red-brown with a creamy foam and aromas of milk chocolate, toffee and a little red fruit. Burnt-sweet and very malty, with a drying edge and notes of toasted fruit and demerara sugar. Good but one-dimensional.
3.7 Bottle from Tesco, Dumfries. Chestnut in hue with a cream-coloured head and a light fizz. Wood and chocolate with port and raisins. The alcohol is well hidden. There's sweetness there, but the finish is dry and mildly bitter. Very enjoyable and much better than I expected from a pasteurised supermarket brew.
3.0 500ml bottle from Beers of Europe and drunk on 09/12/2006. Getting on to a Wee Heavy here. Nice and big on the malt and dried fruit. Rather sweet.
3.9 Creamy off white head stayed on a ruby coloured still body. Sweet aroma with malt, caramel & toffee. Medium to full bodied, smooth & creamy on the tongue with a tickle on the back & clean finish. Caramel, dark chocolate, toffee, malt, demerara & liquorice tastes.
3.6 Gift from SimonTomlinson. Ruby appearance. Aroma is malt, roasted, toffee and sweet. Flavour is smooth, bitter, malt, toffee, sweet, roasted and brown sugar
4.4 500ml bottle. Pours a very dark mahogany with an off white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, malts, bread, apple, plum. Taste of dark roasted malts, toffee, chocolate, caramel, toast bread, plum, dark fruits, slightly peaty, hint of spices. Mild roasty bitterness on the finish. Medium to full bodied. Very flavoursome and characterful. A rich, complex and extremely satisfying malty ale! P.S. - Surely, this should be tagged as a Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy and not a Strong Ale - English as it currently is?
3.5 500ml bottle from Ken Warne, Darlington. Amber brown colour, beige foam head leaving alittle lacing and aroma of malt, bready. Taste is malty, molasses, toasty, bready, dried fruits, with earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry boozy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.
3.4 Bottle. Nose is burnt toffee, sweet malt, hint of marshmallow, sticky dark fruit. Taste is toffee, dark fruit, dates, sweet malt, brown sugar, burnt sugar, red berry. Mouthfeel is slick. Far better than I was expecting
3.3 30Jun2019 Sweet grain and cereal malts, caramel, molasses, toasted bread. Clear brown, medium, creamy, off-white head. Light sweet. Biscuit, toasted bread, sweet grain and cereal malts, caramel, molasses, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Alright. Bottle from Tesco Extra.
