Bruery Terreux Beret

Bruery Terreux Beret

Beret is as artistic as those who wear its namesake cap. Our brewers developed a silky, full-bodied wheat ale which we began fermenting with our house yeast strain. To finish the fermentation, we added our collection of barnyard bacteria, intended to slowly sour the ale, bringing out a slight funk and refreshing piquancy. Finally, a small dose of pureed raspberries were added for just a hint of fruity tannins, putting the berry in Beret.

3.7 excellent wit. brett and raspberry and the spices. funky wit. well executed.
3.6 Very dry and over carbonated. Light raspberry flavor. Carbonation dominates everything. Very crisp. Intense.
3.5 Oak, funk, sour. This isn't as complex as some beers from Bruery Terreux, but it's still good.
3.3 Draught at the Alibi Room, Vancouver, described as "Wild fermented sour wheat wine with raspberries" and listed at 14.2% ABV (possibly a mistake) Hazy, dull amber colour. Mild vinous notes, but also very light acetic; if it's 14%, the alcohol doesn't show that much; lack of malt flavour, malt depth; mild acidity, it has some berry tartness and fruitiness. It may be difficult to pull a beer this big without big flaws, but it tastes like a random fruit beer from mediocre local breweries. Expensive and arrogant.
3.8 Draught at Taphouse. Clear golden coloured with a small white head. Fruity aroma of citrus, peaches and barnyard. Fruity and light acidic flavour of caramel and peaches. Tart finish.
3.7 On tap in the Taphouse Copenhagen. Pours hazy burnt orange with a cream head round the edge of the glass. Nose is barrel aged brett with stewed red fruit. Taste is sour with some apricots. Quite light with a bit of a salty finish. Nice.
4.0 Grumlig orange öl med ett bubbligt vitt skum. Smak och doft av malt, jäst, lätt funkighet, persika, tropisk frukt och bärsyrlighet.
3.6 9/22/18 - Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 750 ml bottle. Orange colored grapefruit juice looking pour, not much of a head. Aroma has a pleasant tartness to it with some burnt apricot accents. Flavor has a solid sour backbone to it, big raspberry presence, some apricots, great pucker quality without being overwhelming. Excellent lively mouthfeel with a nice spritz to it.
3.3 Aroma: Medium coriander. Medium-light sour. Appearance: Hazy peach body. Flavour: Medium-light sour, Light raspberry, coriander. Dry, sour finish. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Nice, fruity sour. Quite potent. 750 ml bottle, poured. Shared
3.8 Aromatic, sour, sweet, fermented cherry/fruit aroma. Wine-style bottle, average label. Dull, foggy orange-tan. A little saline, threatens to become jaw locking tart, but then holds off a bit. Cherry notes, a little funky, biotic, some vinegar. Not very bitter. Pretty complex, worth dicing apart. Implied chili pepper at the end. ABC Liquors, Betton.
3.8 Hazy peach pour, small white head. Raspberry aroma, flavor of raspberry and champagne, quite tart.
4.2 Slight haze, straw yellow, bubbly head. Vinegar sour aroma, light. Sharp sour taste, plenty of citrus. Farmyard finish smooths it out. No ethanol burn at all, just totally smooth. Delectable.

3.5 750ml bottle. Filtered orange-pink body. Bright, juicy sour tones. Respectable raspberry flavor. A little boozy at times, wine -like. Pleasant balance or melding of brett and rasp. Well done, the spices give it some nice depth.
3.9 From: stl microfest 2018 sample Aroma: light and unoffensive Appearance : hazy golden orange, bright light head Taste: light and bitter raspberry forward Palate: light and smooth little to no carbonation Overall: would try a full pour
4.2 Draft at Brewdog Shepherds Bush. Clear golden copper. Awesome aroma, funky, barnyard, white wine, Brett, green apples. Sour with light sweetness, green apples, vinegar, herbs, wood, berries, not very dry. Medium-bodied, quite easy to drink. Superbly balanced, great beer.
4.0 Tap at Brew Dog Nottingham. Pours amber with white lace halo (first sign of difference - most sours I have encountered are less full in colour). There's more in the aroma than my poor olfactory function can deal with. Fruit and toffee apple in a sour? Taste is medium sweet to sour but there's a pregnant pause before the sour truly arrives. Palate is also heavier than most sours being the top edge of medium bodied, richly textured, average carbonation, and a long and languidly souring finish. The more I had, the more I liked.
3.7 Bottle split at 36 Levels Lost, picked up online, 17/04/18. Hazed golden with a decent off white covering. Nose is earthy fruit skins, pissoi, funk, caramel, brett, green berry skins. Taste comprises funk, damp straw, pissy citric shreds, green berry tang, damp straw, apple core. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough sour ... not too in yer face and drinks easy for 9%.
4.3 Sample poured from bottle at STL microfest Aroma 8 /10: Raspberry, oak Appearance 4 /5: golden with frothy head Palate 4 /5: full-bodied, tart, slight puckering quality Taste 9/10: Raspberry, wheat, foedre qualities Overall 18 /20:fresh, easy to drink sour, doesn't taste like an 8.6%er so be careful... Final: 4.3
3.3 A 750ml bottle, 2015 vintage, bottled on 20th May 2015. Poured into a Holy Mountain tulip glass. It was a cloudy dark golden orange colour with a big three finger white head that had decent retention while leaving some nice lacing. Aromas were tart and sour, raspberry, wheat, barnyard funk, oak with hints of lime. Tastes sour, tart, raspberry, cranberry-apple, wheat, lemon-lime and Belgian yeast with only a hint of oak and funk. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall this was ok, but not quite as much raspberry as I hoped for. I was surprised by the higher than expected ABV though, as the alcohol was well hidden.
3.3 Keg @ BrewDog Tower Hill opening night. Unassuming to look at. Big sour, estery aroma. Very sharp sourness. A little too much at the end, there’s nothing to counter the tartness. Good though.
2.4 17th April 2018 Level 6 bottleshare. Thanks to Cloin. Light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Light dry palate, fairly crisp. Sharp lemony sourness, very sharp. Light finish. Way too sharp for me, any other flavours that might be present are lost behind the sharp edges.

The taste is crisp, dry, tart, sour, sherbet, nectarine, mango, goody mouth - pucker, acidic kick, oily, sugary, sherbet and earth with an acidic finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation.
