Bruery Terreux Gypsy Tart (2015 -)

Bruery Terreux Gypsy Tart (2015 -)

Gypsy Tart is a Flanders-style brown ale with a California touch. A beer that can trace it’s origins to Great Britain, but more famously perfected in western Belgium, has been updated through our own modern techniques, delivering the sweet body and mildly tart finish that has won over numerous generations of beer drinkers in Europe. Our rendition of this wonderful beer style is perfect for both sour beer amateurs and advocates alike.

3.8 Tap@Sitko&Sori, Tampere, Finland. Medium/Strong nuances of averagely sour dark and red berries, some sour malts, a hint of basement notes. Medium taste spectrum and medium aftertaste with slightly sour tartness. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, very nice quality though as not complex as the best are. 8 4 7 4 15
3.6 Tap at Sitko & Sori. Pours brown reddish with thin white head. Malts, caramel, cherries, sour red berries, oak. Medium body, average carbonation, sour finish.
4.3 2/5/19. 750mL bottle on clearance for $9 or so at Family Beer & Liquor. Famille Rue 2016. Brown red pour, lots of red under the light, under a nice khaki head that sticks surprisingly well. Tart aroma, sour cherries, berries, touch of funk. Super sour flavor, acidic, tart cherries abound, some berry character, a touch of maltiness in the background, oak, some funk. Super sour and maybe not dead on to the traditional sour, but it’s hitting the spot and tasty to me!
3.5 Hazy chestnut pour with a one finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is toast, caramel, toffee, woody notes, light berry and greenwood tart funk. Flavor is tart green wood funk, toasty wood notes, light basement funk, lots of fig heavy dark fruity and dark sugar notes.
4.0 Bottle. Dark amber pour. Aroma of cherry, oak, malt, horseblanket and vanilla. Taste of rich cherry, oak, vanilla, malt, tannine, red fruit, tart and a vineus finish. Very nice.
3.6 Tart and malty, lots of oak notes shine through here. Could use a bit more body, and a hint more malt sweetness, but overall quite good.
3.3 Hazy. Light amber-brown. Not much head. Woody, tart brew. Tart, has a lactic note, hint of balsamic, lots of wood. Raisins, earthy bitterness, and a hit of alcohol in the finish.
3.4 On tap @Luppolo Station (Rome). Bruna con riflessi rubino, torbida, schiuma leggera che svanisce rapidamente. Al naso note di frutta rossa, sottobosco, legno. In bocca è spigolosa, dolce all'attacco con finale acido e legnoso. Corpo medio, carbonazione medio-leggera. Un po' sottotono e da rifinire.
3.7 Nietypowy ten flanders, kalifornijski wszakże. Złożone, pełne, lekko kwaśne w finiszu, wiśniawe, drewnawe, dzikawe. Smacznawe.
3.8 Semi tart, pretty complex aroma which includes dates drenched in caramel, plum, some even nutty bites fleshed out with wooden barrel notes. Smells really great. Taste is definitely tart which scratches the palate with its winish notes. Also a lot of dates, fig fleshed out with gentle caramel. Alcohol is completely hidden. Hella-tight solid brew.
4.1 Beer #11 of my #7000 Beer Celebration - 7 on either side of the milestone. Nice crisp and super hazy purple, violet and light brown coloured body with a dense three centimetre tall off-white head that shows a lot of bubbles from the bottom. Aroma of fresh raspberries and blackberries with some good funky yeast and a dry touch of the malt along with a noticeable sweetness from caster sugar and the fruit of course. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strong fruity flavours dominate the taste up front with a big touch of the dry yeast and soured/tart flavours showing berries and even some citrus elements as well. Aftertaste shows a touch of the nuts and earth flavours with some more of the yeast coming through and ending with a mild sweetness and tart finish with the fruits still front and centre. Overall, a very nice tart, soured and funky beer from the yeast and all the fruits in the mix with a pleasant malt balance on the back-end with a dry character but makes drinking the entire 75 cL not only possible, but enjoyable! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 10-June-2017 for US$13,99 sampled at home in Washington on 28-August-2018 when moving into my new house. 2015 Vintage // Purchased: 10-June-2017 // Sampled: 28-August-2018
3.7 Aroma: Medium-light sour, cherry. Medium-light toffee. Appearance: Hazy, brown body. Small, tan head. Fine bubbles. Low retention. Flavour: Medium sour. Cherry. Medium malty. Medium-light lemon. 4.0 A 750ml bottle, 2015 vintage, bottled on 22nd September 2015. Poured into a Holy Mountain tulip glass. It was dark brown in colour with a copper amber hue and a big four fingered beige head that had decent retention while leaving behind some lacing. Aromas were tart-ish, cherry, plum, mixed berries with some light vinegar and dark malt. Tastes sour, tart, cherry, lemon, lightly sweet plum, red grape, oak with light vinous and vinegar notes. Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Overall a refreshing and tasty Oud Bruin.
4.0 It sure what a Flemish style brown ale is. Gypsy Tart is definitely more sour than brown ale (other than appearance). Nice balance of sweetness and tarts. John L - Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
3.6 Dried leaves, glue. Cloudy chestnut, thin head. Wormwood, currants, cashew, walnut. Medium body, easy carbonation. Earthy and nutty.
3.7 Sampled on draft at Pub 365 in Las Vegas. Dark brown colour, the colour of tea before milk is added. Beige head. The taste is of plums, cherry, wood and caramel. Medium sweet but with a hint of vinegar and a nice, fruity tartness. A refreshingly sour taste. An interesting example of an American sour brown beer.
3.5 750ml bottle. Poured a really murky brown color with a small slightly tan head. Got some cherry skins on the nose, light malts. Some light tartness, not really acidic. Some yeast notes. Okay.
3.4 Plum and bretta. Murky brown like swamp water pour with good head and lacing. Tangy. Good Flanders brown. Bottle.
3.8 750ml bottle .. . plum, leather, funk depending on the year .. solid mouth, low fizz .. . finish is easily spot on .. dank purple sour scrath records, usually a treat, great example of the newer american style sour browns .. . . https://youtu.be/m-ASVA5zn24?list=PLmze3lEyZ4Z3Sj9vw6mzLplN_-IY03pVR&t=193
3.7 Bottle from Highland 11-25-16
3.3 Tap at Jacs. Unfiltered burgundy brown body. Somewhat soft on the palate carbonation wise, but lots of aceduc sour tones. Not the worst approximation of the style, but not that impressive either. American sour territory, limited finesse or balance. Drinkable, but not as good as Rodenbach. Leathery after awhile.
3.8 @ Gyllenbock 17-10-28: Riktig fin syrlighet med tydliga toner av bär och lite hö. Fin lång eftersmak.
4.2 Bottle, december 3rd 2016. Hazy red/brown body with a small tanned head. Aroma of tart fruits and berries, sweet dark malt, lactic acid. Taste is sour, fruits and berries, with herbal notes, funk, wood. Vineous finish with a lovely lasting sweet and sour fruit finish. Very nice!
3.7 Bottle bought in San Diego, Feb 2017. Hazy dark amber with a small head. Quite sour with berries, citrus, caramel, hay and some grapes. Quite good.
3.6 Funky aroma in a hazy red brown pour. Nicely balanced tart flavour profile makes for an excellent example of the style. Maybe missing just a little of the complexity (and subtlety) of the Belgian masters.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a reddish color. Aroma and taste are caramel, tartness, and some fruitiness.
3.9 Butelka @ ŚFP. Dębowość, wiśnie, suszone owoce, beczka. W smaku nuta wanilii od beczki, drewno, kwaskowe, owocowe z dzikością. Wytrawne ale i pełne. Bardzo ciekawe
4.2 Butelka @ ŚFP W aromacie dębina, wiśnie, dzikość, suszone owoce. W smaku dębowość, wanilia, beczka, słodko, suszone owoce, a do tego wyraźnie wiśniowo kwaśne. Super
