Bruery Terreux Hottenroth Berliner Weisse

Bruery Terreux Hottenroth Berliner Weisse

Hottenroth Berliner Weisse is brewed in memory of Fred & Sarah Hottenroth, our founder, Patrick Rue’s grandparents. This tart, German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We use lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people.

3.5 Bottle 75cl. @ The Beer Garden Store, Madrid, Spain. A: Hazy golden. T: Wheat, citrus, tart, fruity.
3.9 Bomber to tulip - pours clear with a bubbly champagne head, quickly dissipates, color like a dark white wine. Aroma of white grape peel, peaches, traces of barnyard funk. Spritzy on the tongue. Brett, lemon zest, light woodiness, more peach nectar, dry brett finish. Packs a ton for this abv.
3.4 Bottle. Hazy yellow-orange with a short-lived white head. Funky, tart aroma with tons of fruit. Heavily carbonated, really slick and light bodied with an abrupt fizzy finish. Tastes funky and fruity and lightly tart.
3.2 Wow -- tart and tangy for a low gravity beer. Aromas of honey, sour lemonade. The raspberry comes out on the palate, with a lemony, orange delicacy and a deep minerality.
3.8 On tap the the bruery tap room. Pours out a hazy straw topped with a fizzy head. Nose is tart fruit lemongrass wheat and some sweetness. Taste is more of the tart notes a nice light crisp lemon. I like the bruery low abv beers.
3.9 Bottle. Hazy golden with two finger head. Lightly tart with less lemon then other Berliners I’ve had. Solid wheat body with some fruity sweetness. Very nice balance.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a hazy straw color. Aroma and taste are tart lemon, citrus, and light bodied.
4.0 Pours clear yellow with a small white wisp. Aroma is tart sweetness and fruit. Taste is a smart tartness that hits quick and then fades. It leaves a nice fruity sweetness and dry palate. Great beer.
3.4 Draft at the source on 6/26/2016. Pale gold with a white head. Fruity, tart aroma. Taste is wheat, apple juice, white wine, touch of lemon. Moderately sour finish.
1.8 Bottle share at Leighton’s, many thanks to Kenny for this one. As ’Bruery Terreux Hottenroth Berliner Weisse’, 3.1%. Opaque hazy pale yellow, no head. Aroma is eggy, pungent, solvent, some white chocolate, stink bomb. Body is light, soft carbonation, a little foamy. Taste is thin, bready, more of that sulphur, white chocolate, thin citrus. I’m struggling to think of things I like about this.
3.8 Bottle, 65cl. Opaque pale golden with a minimal head. Sour tart aromas. Medium bodied with moderate to fizzy carbonation. Medium to low sweet, heavily sour. Deep fruity and tart character into a citrus sour finish. Very pleasant.
3.5 Bottle, 750ml. A pale beer with no head. Sour aroma with some spices. Taste is sour with fizzy carbonation and some astringency. Light bodied and somewhat watery but with a citrus aftertaste like lemmonade.
4.0 Bottle dated 2015. Pours a very light hazy yellow color with fizzy white head. Light citrus notes and some tartness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes tart and dry. Very nicely done berliner.
2.1 14th April 2016 Bottleshare at Mr Smith’s pad. Hazy gold beer, a very short lived white head. Some egg on the nose. Palate is light, dry and has decent fine carbonation. Light tangy citrus, orange and lemon. A bitter and wonky funk underneath. Light semi dry finish. Pretty lame all round.

3.6 Big bottle shared in the LDN - big thanks Kenny ’Summer of ’76’ Mitchell. Pours hazy gold with a fizzy, fast-fading white head. The nose holds zesty lemon, citrus peel, tangy wheat, light funk. Light sweet flavour with lemony tartness, dried wheat, some salty bite, hay. Light bodied with fizzy carbonation. Clean and dry on the finish, with quick tartness, more lemony bite, some rindy bitterness. Pretty decent stuff.
3.5 A beer to have when you’re having more than one. Aroma of lemons, spice and grain. Pours a cloudy pale yellow color with a a short lasting white well laced head. Tart lemony taste with slight grain, medium body with a tart lemon finish
3.6 Pours slightly hazy hay-coloured golden yellow with a large fizzy white head that loudly and quickly fades like the cap on a soda. AROMA: wheat, bread/biscuity, lemon, hay, banana, earthy funk, cheese, woody, grassy and faint herbs. TASTE: wheat, bread/biscuity, lemon, hay, banana, earthy funk, cheese, white wine vinegar, woody, grassy, slight spice and faint herbs. 3.3 Light hazy straw hue with a thin white rocky top. Big cheesy sulphuric fart on the nose, but you can kinda get a little banana and guava fruitiness underneath it. Better taste than the aroma but it’s just a bit bretty wheaty and a touch of acidic lemon rind. Dry and wheaty flavor with lots of funky Brett.
3.4 From notes (10/7/15). Good and refreshing after a long and unexpectedly hot day. It’s dry, thin, sour, and effervescent, and it’s a really solid if somewhat one-dimensional Berliner Weisse.
4.4 I’m bias...I love this style, fell in love with Berliner Kindl when I was stationed in Germany for 5 years. Pours a golden yellow color with big fizzy head. Aromas of citrus peel, yeast, hay. Flavors are tart sour apple, grass, and some barnyard.

3.5 On tap at The Mayor of Old Town. Pale yellow and light hazy appearance with a white head. Aroma of tart lemons, corn, toasted grains, light herbs and light bread. Similar flavor, mildly tart with a light sweet finish and a light body. A pretty decent Berliner overall, but probably my least favorite Terreux so far (of 11).
3.4 Pours a cloudy golden with a short lived fizzy white head. Smells lactic - acidic, sour. Taste is mildly sweet and moderately sour/tart.
3.1 Not much to this. Some citrus and some bread yeast. Pours cloudy yellow. Watery clean finish. Weird to drink a bruery beer that isn’t 20%. Tap at Churchkey.
3.6 Bottle. Pours light golden, with a big creamy head settling two fingers thick. Aroma is pretty strange fruity lactic acid with lime and musty apricot peel, as well as some notes of yeast and yoghurt. Light body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is tart lactic acid with lemon and fruity notes of apricots.
3.7 Draft @ Bruery. Aroma of tardy wheat. Fresh taste of sour wheat and mild salt. Mildly fruity. Very refreshing and nice.
