2.6Aroma: malt, chocolate hint of perfume hop
Appearance: dark brown, quickly flattening tan head
Flavour: malty sweet with hints of carbon and dark chocolate
Palate: thin and overly carbonated
Would have been better if it wasn't so massively overprimed, it exploded out of the bottle.
3.5Bottled, 330ml from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Dark chestnut with cream head. There are sweet, fruity malts to this from the start, port wine notes with a touch of wooden cask. Sweet caramel, toffee and a peachy alcohol note. Fuller and easy on the palate. Nice beer.
3.4Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker. Pours hazy dark brown with a collapsing, frothy, beige head. Aroma of caramel, raisin, faint iron & rainwater, sugared peanut, apricot, 'wet' cinnamon, clove, red apple. Taste has sweet raisin & fig in caramelly & cake-like maltiness, some apple & pear, vaguely sourish and balanced by a thinly phenolic clove-like touch, already warming up, with retronasal iron & yeast. Dryish, malty finish, faintly herbal hoppy, phenolic too, lingering dried fruit, caramel, softly warming liqueur alcohol. Medium body, thin syrupy texture, lively carbonation. A bit too sharp, not very rounded, but surprisingly tasty.
2.9Pour dark reddish brown. Aroma is raisins and overall sweetish winey aroma. Flavor has dried fruit with some alcohol presence.
3.80,33l bottle. Pours hazy brown with small white head. Caramel, plums, Belgian yeast. Starts with sourness and has a bitter finish. Great one.
3.3Squat bottle. Dark, little foam when poured in a Chimay glass. Rich with plums, caramel and a hint of anise. But not as rich as other Dubbels. Good, but not worth the price.
3.8Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark brown, beige head. Nose is plums, raisins, dark fruits, malty, sugary sweetness. Tastes dried fruits, plums, chocolate, dark malts. good.
3.5Bottle from Beers of Europe. Caramel, sugar and roasted malt along with a little dry hop, and forest fruits coming through in the finish. Decent.
3.5Bottle. Deep amber color with a thin cloudy beige head. Aroma of caramel with notes of leather. A bit salty, medium dry taste. Some sourness in finish. Medium body.
3.1(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 4/19, from Alko, 20171208) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had caramel, candy sugar and toasted malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, caramel, candy sugar, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A thin dubbel with pleasant aroma.
3.833cl bottle, from Alko. Bbe 04/2019.
Poured mahogany deep color, thin, lasting off white head. Looks great.
So is the aroma, ripe fruits, plums, caramelized sugar. Hint of tartness in the dark fades away and gives room to plummy goodness, caramel glazed dates. Some alc warmth. Lovely Belgian ale overall.
3.4Bottle, alko inkoo. Dark brown. Dark bready malty nose with hints of licorice, chocolate, mild spicyness. Med bodied, easy drinker, clean finish. Real easy and mellow.
3.5Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a little white head. The aroma features sweet maltiness, ripe fruitiness and a touch of spiciness. Taste is medium to heavily sweet, displaying caramel, syrup and dark plummy and fig-themed fruitiness. The palate is medium-bodied and average in carbonation, surprisingly light-bodied given the strength. Sweetness is slightly overpowering; decent, still.
3.4Birra dal colore marrone. Schiuma beige, fine e persistente. Note di caramello, malto, crosta di pane, miele e prugna secca.
3.6Bottle. Darker brown in color with a tan head. Dark ripe fruityness, sweet syrup and chocolate in aroma. Chocolate, fruity mild bitterness. Interesting. Smoothens out later on. Feels quite light considering the abv.
3.9A brown beer, a head is medium and beige. Aroma has tasteful and sweet fruitness, vigs, apricot, also aromatic notes of flowers, some spices. Plums and raisin when the beer is warmer. Taste has sweet fruits, fresh and dried, plums, apricot, low spicyness. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Fresh fruitness without dried fruity heavyness of typical dubbel. Similar notes that have in the great Abbaye des Rocs Triple Impériale. Great beer and positive surprise.
2.9Bottle of 33cl, in a Trappist glass; from the fridge. Drinked @Delirium_Monastérium.
Hmmm... The usual failed abbey dubbel : sweet with the brown sugar, the aroma is also chocolate and sugar...
Boarf. Go for it, just not in a bar.
3.7Bottle 33 cl. Pours a dark purplish brown with a small white head and an aroma of sweet malts, toffee, brown sugar, overripe fruits, sweet spices and licorice. The taste is medium sweet with a light to medium body and a light to medium carbonation. Medium lasting finish. Not too complex, but nice
4.0Hazy chestnut brown. Fizzy ivory head. Low retention. The aroma is prune, nuts, caramel, liqeur, yeast. Medium body. Medium dry rich malty taste. Big dried fruit. Subdued yeast. Light hopping. Nice dubbel.
3.2OCZY:
ucieka z butelki. :(
brunatne, skąpa piana osiada do warstewki, ładnie firankuje;
NOS:
mosiądz, cukier trzcinowy, w tle czekolada mleczna i brzoskwinia;
USTA:
ciało średnie, wysoko nasycone
;
JĘZYK:
śliwka w mlecznej czekoladzie, czekolada gorzka, bardzo krótka czekoladowa goryczka, metal;
3.9This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a softly carbonated opaque brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The nice aroma was vinous and brown malt. The semi-thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering dark malt aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of vinous brown malt and dough. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.
3.6Feb. ’16. A 0.33 l bottle that poured hazy brown body with huge corresponding head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, yeast and a bit of alcohol. Flavor was lightly sweet, malty, caramel, fresh ripe and dried fruits, licorice, cocoa and wood with only a light vinous dubbel-ish note. Quite a complex brew, with the full body. Finish was pretty long, sweet malty and lightly warming. Really nice and a tasty dubbel that evolved significantly over the style boundaries to general Belgian strong ales, but I won’t mind.
3.6750ml c&c bottle. Story behind this beer is a friend/co worker (Dave) passed away in 2015. He was a huge fan of Belgian beers. A few of us at work would drink some craft beers in the morning after work from time to time. This was a bottle he gave to one of our friends/co workers (Bob) to try. The bottle was placed into Bob’s cellar to drink at a later date, and was forgotten about. Months after Dave passed Bob came across the beer while looking through his cellar. He held onto this beer till our old "after work morning beer" drinking crew was back together. So on 04/08/2016 in the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City prior to AC Beer & Music festival we finally drank the beer and toasted to Dave! Your still in our thoughts buddy and we’re glad you were still able to be with us at beerfest in some way! Poured a hazy brown with a thick tan head of foam. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, dark fruit, Belgian yeast, with light spices. Taste mimiced the nose with some light oxidation and plastic off notes. All in all was a decent beer and glad I got to try it in Dave’s memory.
3.3Dark brown color. Raisins, caramel aromas. Starts out sweet, fruity, and tart, finishes very roasty and phenolic. Licorice and espresso notes dominate. It can be very astringent with obvious alcohol. This beer needs to be consumed quite warm. I didn’t care for it, but it is a complex and interesting beer. It could pair well with rich gamey foods or dark chocolate.
3.6Bottle from Whispering Liquor: What a treat to find this 4-pack of beer since I had never seen or heard of this brewery or beer. Aroma is faint but does have an expired aroma of deep syrupy malts and a pinch of spice attributed to the Belgian yeast despite its old shelf life. The flavor is sweet but is a gloopy malt mess seeing as how this was bottled in September 2012 and it is now almost February 2016. No wonder why it was on sale for $2 cheaper. Glad this beer reached my hands but it would have been rated so much higher if it were within 2 years or so. This abbey dubbel has aged graciously but my rating is based on what I taste now and not what I imagine it tasted fresh.
3.8Aroma is roasted malts with dark fruits like plum, raisins and some apple. Light clove and yeastiness. Taste is akin to Aroma with a full roast and sweet body. Light yeastiness and clove bitterness on tip. Appearance is an attractive clear amber with a fluffy medium beige head that retains very well.
