Budweiser Budvar / Czechvar

Budweiser Budvar / Czechvar

Can, bottle, keg: Filtered
B:Original / Original Czech Lager

Sold as Czechvar in most of the Americas (due to a trademark dispute with Anheuser-Busch), and as Budweiser Budvar in the rest of the world. Has adopted the subtitles "B: Original", "Original Czech Lager" or just "Original", depending on market, to emphasis that the company was the first to use the Budweiser name.

Brewed using whole-cone, Saaz hops from Žatec, pristine water from an Ice Age aquifer, Moravian malting barley and our heritage lager yeast, this classic rich and full-flavoured lager sets the gold standard for Czech brewing across the world. The tradition of cold-conditioning in our brewery cellars for seven times longer than most other beers creates a pale lager with a sweet, deep golden body and an aromatic, hoppy foam. Bold in taste, yet refreshing and perfectly balanced.

Cone hops, water from deep Artesian wells of 300m depth, Moravian malt, brewers' unique skills and long maturing in lager cellars. A lager that contributes to the already reputable Czech beer brewing industry all over the world.

Malt: Czech malt
Hops: Žatecký poloraný červeňák (ŽPČ) • hops cone

3.6 Smell of bread. Golden colour, high white head. Aroma of bread, malt, faint fruit. Lively carbon. Medium bitter.
4.2 12 ounce bottle from Kuhn's Market in Pittsburgh. Very nice, like everything you'd expect from a Czech style lager.
3.8 Golden, etwas herb. Klassiker, der immer mundet
3.5 Bottle at home, golden beer, small head. Aroma is malt, sweet, fruit. Taste is the same, sweet, fruity, malt, bittersweet, not too bad.
W smaku delikatnie słodowe, herbatnikowe, nieco zbytnio wodniste. Wyczuwalny delikatny maślany posmak zwieńczony goryczką ziołową na raczej niskim poziomie. Ogólnie przyzwoite ale są duże lepsze lezaki.
4.4 This is a classic that I've always wanted to try! Pours a beautiful crystal clear golden yellow with a small foamy white head. Classic pilsner aroma of noble hops and clean cracker malt. The gentle and delicious bitterness of the hops and the creamy, lightly nutty/bready taste of the malt hit together in complete balance. A dry hay bitterness builds and levels off, but stays constant throughout. There's a slight underlying fruitiness with a hint of lemon, but it's very subtle. A bit of vanilla too, but again very subtle. Finishes with a lasting dry bitterness with that vanilla and a bit of woodiness. After finally trying this, I see why it's a classic. This is an excellent lager that I'm looking forward to drinking more often now!
3.7 Pours golden with great white head. Nose is malty hops. Taste is caramel, nutty, grass, straw. Hops are light bitter.
2.9 Golden color, small white head. Aromas of malt, hops, yeast and slight citrus. Taste of bread, hops and grass.
3.7 Can 0,50L. I was sure, I've already rated this one, but obviously I haven't. Clear golden color with a finger of creamy white head, that slowly dissipate. Aroma of malt, grain and biscuits. Taste is malty and biscuity, light to medium bitter with medium carbonation and hoppy, medium bitter aftertaste. Good balance. One of my favorite (commercial) Czech lagers.
3.2 Can’t believe I haven’t rated this. Tap pint unfiltered at Wine Rack, Tattenham Corner. Pours slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of malt. Malt and bready taste with grain. Mild bitter finish.
3.4 Clear golden, white head. A little canned aroma, meadow and citrus. Not very malt-driven, but balanced. Moderate bitterness
2.9 0.5l can from Sindi Maxima. Aroma has the classic malty-grainy and grassy notes you can expect from the Czech lager styles. Taste has the biscuity-sweet malt flavour, but also feels slightly watery-thin. Light to medium body and average carbonation. Ends with light grainy hops that linger around the mouth. It's not a bad brew, but the final result unfortunately still feels a bit watered down to me - with aroma being the best thing about it.
3.6 Burk från SB. Ljusguldig, klar med vit krona. Knäckebröd, något krispig, samtidigt mjukt maltig. Strax över medium beska.
3.5 How: can from pint. Cold. BB: 24.03.23 Head: white, two fingers. Colour: golden, clear. Aroma: bread, cereals, herbal, floral, light fruity notes. Clean. Taste: thin to medium body, above average carbonation, bread, floral, herbal, light grassy notes, balanced bitterness. Medium long aftertaste like initial taste. About as good as traditional pale lager gets.
3.5 Good, would get again.
3.0 Lättdrucken lager med fin smak
3.2 Bottle. Pours gold. Floral, grain, little sulfur, clean cracker. Medium body. Pretty tasty.
3.1 Light amber color, clear, white head. Malt, hay, grass aromas. Light sweetness. Average body
3.7 Hazy off gold pour under a large frothy white head - inside a “Czechvar” tulip glass. Fresh woody grass grain like aromatic. Solid lacing from the fancy fluff of head. A bit bitter initially, and this remains with the mouthfeel but is accompanied by an instant carbonated warming belch. Very different from the usual mass market popular brews, this bakery bread with a tart flavor is closer to an IPA than any Stella. Taste is even keeled and blends to a medium finish. Warming remains.
3.0 Nalewa się złote, klarowne, ładna, gęsta, obfita piana. W zapachu wyraźnie słodowe, całkiem czysta ta słodowość, trochę ziołowej chmielowości. W smaku słodowość już bardziej papierowa, dosyć wyraźna goryczka, dosyć średnie.
3.7 On tap at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a bright golden yellow with medium foamy white head and good lacing. The aroma has plenty of Czech hops, and just a hint of citrus. In the mouth it is crisp and fairly sweet with both malts and hops prominent. Some graininess also, and a little pepper later on. Finish is somewhat dry. This is a decent Pilsner.
3.2 Flasche 0,33l: Bernstein, glasklar, mäßig stabiler mittelporiger Schaum; frische + recht würzige Nase, leichte malzig-würzige Süße, eher trockene Hopfennoten, grasig/floral, kräftig Malz, Getreide, leichte Hefearomen, Brot, Brotkruste, trocken-würzige Bitterkeit; leicht fruchtiger + recht würziger Körper, eher trockene Hopfenaromen, leichte fruchtige Säure, grasig/florale Noten, Malz, Getreide, cremig, moderate Kohlensäure, leichte Hefearomen, Brot, malzige Brotkruste; trocken-würziger Nachgang
3.6 330 ml bottle. Bright yellow gold color. Large, dense pillowy white head. Grainy malt aroma has herbal hoppy notes. Flavor is sweet grain with buttery notes. Herbal, earthy hops. Rather thin bodied. Easy drinking. Way more palatable than American Budweiser.
3.5 Clear coppery gold with a thin white head. Aroma of toasted malt, straw, resin taste of grain, biscuit, malt with a faint lingering bitterness. Decent if unremarkable lager.
3.2 11.2oz bottle pours out pale straw topped with a white head. Nose is light grain some of that green bottle skunk. Taste is more of the light grain some grass and skunk.
Erfrischend.
3.5 Bottle from Tesco . Pours clear light gold with a white head. Aroma of hay, spicy pepper, bread & lemon. Taste of more bread, hay & pepper with some lemon. Light bodied with a smooth well carbonated mouthfeel. The finish is dry and bittersweet with more hay, bread and pepper. Straightforward Czech style pilsner.
