3.2 Bottle. Dark brown-red in colour. Very malty; roasty/burnt malts, caramel, chocolate, coffee notes. Fruity; dark fruits, berries. Earthy. Sweet malty with a sour fruity edge. Pronounced dry bitter aftertaste. (2008)
3.1 Cask in JDW @ Stansted. Dark reddish brown with a thin tan head. Chocolate malt aroma, flavour is dried fruit and a little chocolate. Ok
2.7 Cask handpull at Hamilton Hall London as ’Burton Bridge Burton Porter’, old school pump clip. Dark brown with a ruby hue to light, foamy light brown head. Aroma is demerara, bready malt, some varnish and creosote. Body is light and smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is quite watery, a little spice and dark breads, light vegetal note, papery finish. Quite watery and simple. Just ok - wouldn’t come back to this one.
2.9 Cask at the Crown Inn, Oakengates on 9th Jan 2017. Dark brown pour with a beige topping. Mild chocolate and roasted malts in both the nose and taste: a bit watery for a Porter to be honest.
3.1 PoW Beer Fest, Farnborough. A vague aroma, malty. Deep an dark, with a ruby tint. Large bubbles, but unimpressive off-white head. A session porter. Medium sweet and malty. Smooth. Brown sugar.
3.3 Cask. Pours chestnut with speckled flecked top. Aroma yeasty, biscuit malts. Tastes of both hop fruits and malts so well balanced in a way some porters fail to be. Sweet at the front malts in the core and a growing bitterness in the languor So more to this than one might suspect or expect. 7/3/7/3/13. 15/Dec/22 Festive porter bottle Is it different? same dark chestnut body with rapidly diminished lace. Aroma bread malt. Still balanced but maybe a bit of citrus hops comes through. No Xmas spices (hallelujah). A bit thin for porter but still a long finish. Same score.
3.2 Cask at the Wellington; clear mahogany brown pour with a bubbly light tan head, dark fruits and a hint of roast on the aroma, taste has some nuts, dark fruits, a hint of chocolate, ok.
3.0 Bottle from Real Ale Store, Newark. Deep Ruby colour with a beige head. Aroma is soft fruit and caramel sweet. Taste is light fruity sweet. Medium body.
3.0 500ml bottle at home. Poured a deep brown with tan head, notes of roasted malts and chocolate hint. Average porter.
3.2 Cask, as festive christmas porter. Pours deep brown, roasted, light chocolate and fruit.
2.7 Weird, weird mix. Fruity, Red Berries, Black Currants, then some Coffee, and then some chocolate. Has light touches of tea also. Very thin, not the best.
3.0 Cask by hand-pump at Three Judges, Glasgow on 8 Feb 2014: clear very dark brown, large beige head, sour malty aroma, very poor lacing, fruity, dark malty flavour, bit thin, bland.
3.4 Cask@Burton bridge inn, Burton. Ruby brown beer with a small head and excellent lacing. Aroma is faint roasted malts. Taste is fruity with some chocolate and bitter coffee. Decent.
2.8 Appearance: Clear dark brown color with a frothy tan head. Light lacing. Aroma: Slightly sweet and mild fruity, caramel malty and light roasted malt. Palate: Medium (light) body. A bit sweet and a light bitterness. Soft carbonation. Taste: Mild sweetness. Roasted malt, caramel malty and some fruity notes. Overall impression: Unusual porter. Not to far from a standard British bitter. Personal stats: Handpull at Burton Bridge in Burton-on-Trent, England.
3.5 500ml bottle - Dark brown, frothy tan head. Nice colour. Roasted grains, bitter-sweet chocolate, cocoa powder. Straightforward, simple, a bit too grainy. Medium to medium/light body, just a bit smoother than balanced. Not bad.
2.9 50cl bottle. Pours a muddy chocolate brown with very little head. Nose of raisins, dried malt bread. Taste of malt loaf, very dry raisins. Palate is medium bodied with a tangy middle and a drying finish. Overall, slightly disappointing when you consider it to be a Christmas beer but maybe alright on cask..
3.2 On cask at the Clarendon, Leicester. Very dark brown with off white head. Aroma quite subtle but nice sweet roasty smell. Nice and smooth with subtle taste at first but nice bitter fruit on aftertaste. I like this.
3.4 Pours in beautiful dark brown, slightly reddish color with 1cm beige head. Aroma is just slightly roasty, not much to smell. Taste is smooth and mild, mostly reminds me a common pale ale from the same brewery. There are all similar notes - caramel sweets, lolipops and herbs. So the only difference is the slightly roasty aftertaste. Well, it's definitely a good ale, could recommend it, but just have in mind that it wont taste like a common porter.
2.9 Cask at Birmingham Beer Festival 2012. Black. Not much aroma. Lacking flavour too - some sweet malt, some Babybel, some sprouts. Lacking anything interesting.
3.0 Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 15/09/12. Dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that soon cleared to the edge. Malty nose, a little chocolate and coffee. Taste as nose, a touch of liquorice and dark fruit. Medium bodied, a little on the wet side.
3.6 Very dark brown pour, aroma of fruit and chocolate. Flavour of milk chocolate and coffee, full bodyfeel. Ends with a fruity bitter aftertaste.
3.5 Cask at Burton Bridge Inn, Burton-on-Trent: Very very dark brown coloured with an fine bitter taste, and some hints of fruitiness.
3.1 Bottled . The aroma has a lot of fruit, tends to be a biky.Dark coloured offwhite head . Taste is slightly sour, has fruitiness , cherry , light chocolate.Light bodied. Nice.
3.8 cask at burton bridge innfruity nose but has that hint of sourness I look for in a decent porter. Complex malt background and good bittermess too...nice. 19/8 bottle. Low carbonation lots of blackcurrant
3.0 Bottled @ home. Brown color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of chocolat, bit fruity. Bit bitter taste, bit sweet, hint of sourness. Slight sticky on the palate. Average brew.
1.0 500ml bottle. Disappointed in this. Low flavour and watery mouthfeel. Slight sulphury taste the only redeeming factor. Preferred Bramble Stout by the same brewery.
3.1 50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via Beer Ritz Leeds. Festive Christmas Porter label. Deep brown cola colour, fruity aroma, black cherry and molasses. Semi sweet flavour, vanilla and coffee, then more sweetness and a bitter hit at the end.
3.0 500ml bottle, as Festive. Pours a very dark brown with a thin head. Aroma is woody, sour dark fruits. Taste is a little watery, dark fruits to start, some sour fruit on the finish. Barely any carbonation.
3.5 A - Chocolate, cinnamon, citrus and dried fruit A - Dark and hazy with thin to no head T - Light sweet with soft roasted bitter P - Full and soft O - Decent porter
