Butte Creek Organic India Pale Ale

Butte Creek Organic India Pale Ale

Deliciously hoppy, with an undercurrent of flavorful and provocative organic malts, Butte Creek Organic Pale Ale is sure to please hop lovers everywhere. We hand craft this IPA with the generous use of Organic New Zealand Pacific Gem and Cascade hops in the brew kettle, after which we dry hop the beer with Organic Cascade and Wakatu hops to achieve that perfectly pleasant, piney aroma and floral, citrusy hop notes that make this IPA incredible. But beer is not only about hops, it is about balance. The powerful hop presence is equitably enhanced with our careful blending of Organic Pale, Caramel-60, and Wheat malts to provide a solid base and full bodied mouth feel. This is the IPA enjoyed by lovers of hops, lovers of beer, and lovers of socially responsible organic products. 6.5% ABV, OG 15.5, IBU 51.

3.5 A nice IPA with hints of spruce. Definitely hops-centered, but with a caramel backbone from the malt. Slight flat note on the finish, but a good example of a proper IPA.
4.1 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a lightly cloudy dark orange with a quarter-finger of white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and resin. Taste is light bitter. Mostly sour citrus with some caramel malt and earthy resin. Light bodied with a thin yet slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good, it may have renewed my faith in "organic" beers. I would gladly drink this again.
3.4 Bottle - Gravity Beer Market - Olympia, WA Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice IPA aroma and flavor. This was a tasty IPA and being Organic this makes it all the better.
3.0 Poured from 12oz bottle into an English pint glass. This 6 pack has the ABV listed as 6.4%. Color is medium amber with cream colored head. Aroma is caramel malt and some earthy hops. Flavor starts with cloyingly sweet caramel malt and leads into spicy, earthy hop notes. Medium bodied with a sticky mouthfeel. Overall this just wasn’t very balanced - too much sweetness up front for any amount of hops to try to counter.
3.2 Not much to this IPA. Very drinkable and smooth, but seems to be missing some of the characteristic IPA notes.
2.1 Bottle. Another crappy IPA. hazy orange with a small white lace. Nose is striaght grain, smells like a brewery when you first walk in. No hops to be found. Lots of cardboard and grain. Ugh.
2.7 Poured this from a bottle. Golden orange color with a small white head. Aroma of some malts, light hops, but not very complex. Completely missing the floral and citrus. The taste was light all the way around. This was a weak IPA for me (first sampled 3/12/2012).
3.1 Bottle pours a clear copper with a thick white head. Scent is caramel. Taste is the same with earthy bitterness.
3.1 Pours a clear copper - orange. The aroma is subdued, some citrussy hops and a bit of caramel. The body is light, with a thin and lean mouthfeel. There is a solid malty sweetness with a lot of ripe juicy orange flavor. The finish is well balanced with a very pleasant hop bitterness. Not bad.
3.3 Pours a cloudy pumpkin like orange with little bits of yeast floating around. Smell is hoppy, typical of an IPA. Taste is made mostly of hop bitterness with citrus fruit undertones. There are better IPAs out there but this one is worth a try.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a clear copper with a small frothy white head. The aroma is fruity pebbles cereal. Thin mouthfeel with a fruity hop and clean finish. Easy to drink a very good IPA from Butte Creek
3.1 Bottle. Clear amber-copper color with a moderate off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of resin, earth, caramel malt, and pine. The taste is mild maltiness and substantially, though not heavily, bitter, with a long bitter and dry finish. The body is medium with somewhat mild carbonation. Not a very good IPA, but I’d say not bad as far as the average beer goes.
3.4 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA, on 6/2/11. Pours a clear copper-amber color with a medium sized creamy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of earthy and citrus hops with caramela and toffee notes. The taste is leafy and citrus hops. Malty finish. Medium bodied.
3.4 I don’t know what to think about this beer. At first glance it seems terrible. Weak aroma, horrible taste. But the aftertaste is very pleasant, and the 6.7% alcohol content doesn’t hurt either. I’m gonna call this one above average.
3.2 Light amber, slightly hazy, good head. Aroma has some pineapple going on. Taste is bitter of course. Easy to drink but tough to say it’s outstanding.
3.2 Bottled, clear orange color with thin filmy foam, aroma of sweet pine and citrus with similar mild citrus jello and caramel flavor
3.3 A lighter, less bitter IPA than most. Citrus and light pine taste. Very smooth and enjoyable.
3.0 Pour from a 12 oz bottle. The first bottle poured with a ridiculously large head that filled the whole glass, with just an inch of brew in the bottom. THat first glass was cloyingly sweet with heavy molasses / brown sugar flavor. Subsequent pours have had normal to smallish heads and a balanced flavor of carmel malts and moderate hoppy finish. A good English style IPA< though hints of molasses and overall sweetness, with rather subdued hoppiness, make it a little plain IMO. The one funky bottle makes me wonder about quality control. But overall, a decent brew.
3.1 12oz bottle picked up at Plaza liquors in Tucson Appearance: Clear amber with a small off-white head and some lacing Aroma: Caramel malts and pine Taste: Caramel and pine resin Ok
4.0 I know this is quite a big rating, but i really liked this one.Purchased a single bottle yestersday at Monaco Beer Club in Mexicali for $40 pesos.Well this one has a great aroma ,floral hops and thats probably the reason this beer i ranked just good...,the balance between the toasted palate that doesnt affect the the fruity, floral hop pressence and its taste and aroma, some citric hint too along with bee honey wich counterparts the toasted, rich, strong in flavor altough not in alcohol IPA signature.
3.8 I liked this. Aroma of citrus and pine. Heavy pour with good mouthfeel. Very satisfying finish.
3.2 Pours golden color with white head, hoppy and earthy aroma, grassy flavor with fruity notes.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a mostly clear, orange-gold with a small, filmy white head. Somewhat hoppy aroma with some melon and apricot notes. Flavor has mild caramel malt, then right onto the hops, mostly of the earthy, grassy, piney variety. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a slightly resinous mouthfeel. Finishes with lots of earthy, dirty bitterness. Not too shabby.
3.1 Sampled at SBWF09. Golden. Small white head. Fruity and berry-ish aroma. Slightly artificial flavour. Medium and pretty harsh bitterness.
2.6 From a store w/ a high turnover...this tastes stale. Mutted and muddy, the hops try to shine through, but clash, either with hop varieties or just the gross wrong use of varieties. The malt is nothing to comment on as this is all about the horribly wrong hops. Sorry Butte Creek.
3.8 12 oz bottle, pours a translucent dark amber color. Little head. Aroma is amazingly complex and delicious with high hoppiness, some sweet citrus, some malt, and a fair amount of roasty chocolatiness. Taste is predominantly sweet with a hint of bitterness to balance it out. Palate is smooth and body is full. Very faint sweet aftertaste. Execellent IPA.
4.2 Organic India Pale Ale--2001 22 oz. Bottle. 7.10% ABV. (3.75 / 5.0) Clear thin amber color. Rich semi earthy floral hop front. Crisp body is mildly sweet and slightly thin with caramel notes. Rich dry hop spice ends with bitter notes. Missing malt balance in good IPA. Sampled 6/22/2001. Organic India Pale Ale--Certified Organic--2007 22 oz. Bottle. 7.10% ABV. 75 IBU’s? (4.25 / 5.0) Mild lacy head. Clear bright rich dark gold color. Mild floral hop front. Earthy dry sweet caramel pine body. Huge earthy hop spice bitter crusty end. Big Tasty Addicting Bitter IPA. Sampled 7/18/2007.
3.0 12 oz. bottle, bought last October at the ex-Sam’s Wines. Well, definitely past its prime. Medicinal smell upon pouring, though it does dissipate and it sometimes makes me think of extra malts. Hazy copper color, short but persistent head. But hey, there are still hops in here. Mostly English, I think, but with a bracer of some citrus hop. Overall impression is dried grass and bittering alphas. After that initial bit of phenol, it proves to be a pretty nice, standard IPA. More full-bodied mouthfeel that previous organic beers I’ve tried.
3.3 Golden color, white head. Hoppy grassy aroma, metal and some trpoical fruits. Hoppy grassy flavor with fruity notes.
3.2 First impression from the pour is that this is going to be a great beer. Very nice hazy gold colour with a very thick dense head with good retention. The aroma is somewhat biscuity malt with little hop present. The body of the brew is fairly nice but it is lacking in the amount of hops and malt. I would hesitate calling this an IPA, but rather a pale ale. Overall a pretty decent beer that could be improved with more malt and some dry hopping with the northwest’s finest.
