Arrière-bouche longue, complexe, dense.
Levure vineuse, grande ligne.
3.92018/10/30 - Pours jet black with a thick, frothy, tan head that slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is big roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, mild char and spices. Taste is toasted malts, dark chocolate, ash, licorice, roasted coffee and burnt wood. Mouthfeel is medium to full and oily with smooth carbonation and a drying, toasted, lightly warming finish. Good stuff.
3.415/20 huge roasted malt flavour, certainly got an edge to it but very drinkable
3.633 cl bottle@ Armonkallio. Bottled 01.02.2017, BBE 01.02.2017. Aroma has salty licorice and mild hayish tones. Flavour has very strong salty licorice, some rye and ash. Way too salty for me.
3.8Mocno pijalne, nieco palące w język. W smaku fajnie słodkie, czekolada. Szlachetny alkohol w sumie dobre. Aromat plony i w połowie też wychodzą nuty palone.
4.2Bottle from Premier Gourmet. BD: 1mar2017. Black beige. Roasted malts, dark and bitter chocolate. Very bitter and dry.
3.933cl Bottle @ Saveur-Biere, Lille, France.
Black colour with a thin tan head.
Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, licorice.
Taste is roasted, chocolate, sweet, coffee, licorice, vanilla.
Full body, soft carbonation.
Något endimensionell men riktigt god!
4.1330ml bottle at home. Poured thick oily black with small brown head that quickly dissipated. Rich roasty chocolate cocoa liquorice dark fruity notes. Powerful and strong.
4.133 cl bottle. Bottled on 01.02.2017. BBE 01.02.2022.
Pours jet black color with a small beige head. Quite strong licorice aroma here even though still slightly chilled, roasted malts, dark chocolate, subtle hops, faint tar and even some salmiac. The flavor is also licorice-dominant, roasty, dry malty and bitter, cocoa notes, and dark chocolate. Some alcohol warmth, distant dark berries and very subtle minty tones on the aftertaste. Full-bodied, heavy, not too sweet or boozy, reminds me a bit of Nøgne Ø IS. Quite tasty and balanced IS, excellent.

4.0330ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. The oily pour reveals a decent tan-coloured head, a jet black body, and clingy lacing on the glassware. Roasted malty nose, hints of vanilla sweetness, bread, and toffee. The well.blended taste profile features moments of dark bread, chocolate, wood, and vanilla. Prolonged ending. Well bodied warming down the swallow. Lovely sipper. (Tromsø 08.04.2018).
4.0Interesting beer, at first I thought I wasn't going to like it as in the aroma I picked up some significant Licorice and molasses which I'm not a fan of when they stick out in beer. But in the flavors they were more subdued especially later on and in the Finish. Flavors also had this kind of odd Smoky quality to it and the beer is fairly dry and silky actually quite nice.
3.5Bottle at home
Pours deep deep brown with a foamy tan coloured head.
Aroma is of coffee, cocoa, Christmas cake, boozy fruit and light spice.
Taste is strong coffee with some cocoa sweetness plus liquorice. Finish is medium length and fades to boozy-christmas cake. Full bodied, a bit too hot on the booze, very astringent finish – a little bit much for me.
3.8On bottle from Vinmonopolet in Norway, on order. Pitch black color, good offwhite brownish foam. Medium high aroma intensity; malty, choclate, leather ,vanilla and some coffee. Full body & high complexity . Some sweetness, light bitterness : ok balance. Very Enjoyable
4.1Aroma - char, roast, barley, iron, alcohol, espresso, and peat.
Appearance - black body. Light brown head that is around 1" and settles into a collared layer of tight bubbled film. Waving lace with alcohol cloying.
Taste - decadent roast, char, rich espresso, caramelized sugar, wood, and peat.
Palate - body is full, texture is velvety, carbonation is average, finish is aggressive and chock full of roast astringency.
3.8330ml bottle. Pours deep black with a really dark brown head of impressive size and longevity that slowly falls away in craters. Plum brandy, dark chocolate, liquorice, cherry, certainly some booze, some raspberry stuff too. Big body. Nice.
3.8Bottle. Dark brown to black in colour, with a finger thick dark beige head. Roasted malts dominated aroma with lots of coffee and a good dash of dark chocolate. Some alcohol and dark toffee. It's full bodied, faintly warming and smooth on the palate. Notes of molasses and piney hops in the flavor, but it's the roasted malts that dominates the flavor. Coffee, dark chocolate and a wee hint of vanilla. Lasting finish. Sure a nice one. 171230
3.8Bottle 330 ml from Thomas. Aromas are dark roasted coffee, chocolate and sweet caramel. Deep black tar-like body and small brown-beige head. Taste is round with strong coffee notes, chocolate and hints of caramel and vanilla. Thick and creamy palate.
4.3Appearance- jet black, oily, a tan fizzy head which doesn’t last long. Aroma- chocolate malt, fudge cake, dark rum, roast malt, coffee liqueur chocolate, treacle, boozy chocolatey fruit cake. Hint of vanilla. Taste- rich ashy smoky coffee, cigar, treacle toffee, dark chocolate sauce, fudge, roast malt, sweet chocolate. Oily and slightly chewy mouthfeel. Very good.
4.0Stout with a beautiful aroma and nice and subtle taste, definitely a standout beer. Good memories.
4.1330ml bottle. Black colour, short-lived thin brown foam head and aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, dried fruits. Taste is sweet roasty malt, molasses, chocolate & coffee, caramel, vanilla, boozy. Smooth mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, roasty bitter finish. Very drinkable.
3.7330ml bottle from Brewdog.com (£3.57):
Strong & boozy with a lot of alcohol showing but this one was also quite a complex offering that opened with some dark malts & chocolate alongside a caramel sweetness which gave it quite a rich, warming feel. I'd have liked a better balance with less alcohol showing but the beer was still a drinkable one with a few roasted malts that turned smoky with some wood flavours towards the end; definitely one worth trying, especially for the price I paid for it but there are better imperial stouts out there too.
4.2Bottle at home. Pours thick black with foamy dense dark brown head, looks superb. Nose is very intense roast, slightly salty, salted liquorice, ash, charcoal, chocolate, despite heavy roastiness quite fruity nose as well. Taste still has huge roastiness, big dark malts, salted liquorice, salted caramel, coffee, quite bitter although decent sweetness as well. Huge beer yet very nicely balanced, strong roast, quite heavy bitterness, medium sweetness. Very solid "basic" IS without gimmicks.

3.633 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with no head. Aroma and flavour are coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate - with a roasted finish.
4.1330 ml bottle. Opaque black color. Huge dense foamy tan head. Intense bittersweet chocolate nose. Roasted malt flavor. Notes of smoke, tobacco, licorice, dark chocolate and earth. Intensely bitter finish. Charred wood, coal, burnt sugar, resin and alcohol. Powerful and intense.
4.2aroma : smoked, dark intense chocolate, dark caramel. mouth : rich and full, and smoked, tobacco, licorice
