A Gold medal winner in the international brewing industry awards 2000, and a three times bronze medal winner at the Great British Beer Festival in the Best Mild category, this is a smooth, full flavoured, truly dark mild with a rich creamy head. It has a full body and distinctive roasted malt taste, balanced by its fresh hop character. Complex flavours and aromas are achieved by blending deeply roasted malt and adding a selected blend of English hops.

2.8 Big foamy head dark brown. Aroma of soy sauce & chocolate. Tastes roasty wheaty with a little bit of acidic hops on the tail. Dry finish. Highly drinkable.
2.5 Slabienkie puszkowe piwo. Z mleczna piana jak na czarnym guinnessie. Barwa podobna, bardzo czarne ale z niewielkim przejasnieniem brazu. Piwo bez gazu, szybko sie utlenia. Wodniste i malo wyraziste.
2.1 Can; Color: Dark brown/ Resembles root beer. Aroma: Malt/ Roast. Flavor : Watery, mild taste of malt. Not much going on, very bland and not very good.
2.9 Bottle; poured a dark brown color with a light brown head. Aroma was light, with some roasted, caramel and nutty elements. Nutty flavor with some caramel notes; obviously not all that flavorful. Palate was enjoyable.
3.4 Can and served in GI Imperial Pint Glass: Pours a medium brown with an initial creamy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of crystal, chocolate, nutty and a hint of Fuggles and Challenger hops. The taste is moderately sweet with chocolate and caramel overtones support by light handed hop bittering. The mouth feel despite the creamy head is thin and metallic. While my homebrew Dark Mild is better, this is also far better than the Cains Bitter I had before.
2.8 Can courtesy of Deanso. Poured dark mahogany with a thin round tan head. The aroma is dry and dusty. The flavour is roasted malt with dark chocolate. A tasty mild. I’d like to try this on tap.
3.3 Can shared from Deanso. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and light chocolate. Flavour is light sweet and bitter. Light bodied with soft carbonation. A very nice mild beer.
3.3 14.9 ounce (440ml) can. Pours crystal clear, chestnut color; with a good sized ivory top of sudsy foam that soon reduces to a lasting top coat and ring. Smell: Plenty of roasted malt with hints of baked bread and roasted nuts. Improves upon warming. Taste: Mainly mild toasted malts. Some faint English hops towards the finish, with a mildly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Smooth, but too thin-bodied and watery. Near medium carbonation. Overall: seems most suitable as a thirst quencher or accompaniment to a meal. Good beer to give newbies who think dark beers are "too strong".Also noteworthy as a low ABV beer with fine aroma and a substantial malt load.
2.1 14.9 oz can. Deep mahogany brown color with beautiful khaki head and great lacing. Bland taste of roasted malt and cocoa. Hardly tasted like anything. Overall boring, pass.
3.2 Appearance:dark nut-brown pour, almost cola-like, with a short, very creamy medium-tan head. Aroma: nuts, hot cardboard, a bit of brown sugar and molasses. Taste: very subdued flavors, with a focus on nutty, brown-bread malts with just a hint of unsweet maple syrup and chocolate. Finish: smooth and creamy, with a surprising coffee-ish roast lingering. Notes: My first experience with a ’mild ale’. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about.
3.1 Can at World of Beer in Land O Lakes. Pours a near black dark chocolate brown. Creamy beige head. Roasted malt aroma. Flavor has nice coffee and roasted malt notes. Nice, full flavor for a 3.2% beer.
3.3 Pours dark brown with a creamy, somewhat thin, tan head that has decent retention, but eventually fades to nothing, leaving no lacing. Aroma of roast, toast, nuts, english yeast, mineral and light smoke. Flavor is nutty, light toffee sweetness, planty hops, english yeast, light metallic notes, tree fruit skins, light bready yeast and earthy hops. Light dry, minerally body with a light and soft, though slightly sharp carbonation. Nice, decently full flavor beer, but not something that I could really make a night of as the mineral and planty hop notes get a bit tiring after a glass by itself, much less so with pub grub type food. Definitely a nice beer to have one or two with lunch.
3.4 Pours black with tan head. Aroma is dark malts, brown sugar sweetness. Very smooth and creamy, similar to Guinness int texture. Crisp and refreshing with a dark roasty malt taste. Slight hops bite, but overall a little bit watered down tasting, which is why its so refreshing though. A pretty good low ABV beer.
3.2 Keg @ Doctor Duncans, Liverpool 040113 Black, creamy white head. Subdued aroma. Flavour of some dark malts, soft chocolate and coffee. OK for the low abv.
3.2 Pint can. Black with red and a tan layer of foam. I smell sweet malts and lactic. Soft fruit is tasted first with cream. Very gentle hops. The feel moves from thin to creamy. A hint of roasted notes and the softest bitterness. Mild grassiness. Lots of gentle stuff in here and the best is the 3.2 ABV.
4.1 This is a great 3.2 beer. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. This beer is creamy goodness, it has a sweet and roasted dark malt flavor. There is also a great chocolate and coffee taste with a yummy hoppy under tone. The only negative to this beer is it is slightly watered down.
3.3 Pours dark brown into an English pint glass. quick dissolving tan head with large bubbles. Aroma of Roasted Barley and toffee amd caramel. Nice hop balance with the malt. Thin feel on the palate but a perfect match for the style. Nice refreshing lingering finish.
3.4 Can pours opaque dark brown with medium tan head. Sweet malty aroma with tiny hop presence. Taste chocolate malts, slight roast and vanilla. Palate on the watery side. Mild finish of roast and slight hops. Alcohol not apparent. I agree with others this has a lot of flavor for a mild beer, combining sessionability and taste well.
2.6 Aroma is sweet malt with hints of dark fruit. Pours a dark brown with a lasting tan ring and no lacing. The taste is slighly sweet and as the name implies, the flavors are not overwhelming but rather subtle. Malt and vanilla notes with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Watery mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Overall, my take on this brew is rather mild.
2.7 Dark ale, no head with some redeeming aroma and taste which disappears all too quickly when drank. Aroma is mild roast.
3.1 440ml can. Thick creamy tan head. Dark black pour. Pretty good for only 3.2%. Very drinkable.
3.2 440ml can. Date on bottom reads "23 - Aug - 12". Dark color, good creamy khaki head leaves nice lace and has good retention. Good roasty malts, light hop flavor. Very light body, smooth creamy lighter carbonation. Nice light bitter, light sweet taste. Although it’s a bit watery, this is a great, refreshing, yet flavorful light beer. Easy to drink.
3.0 Tried this on tap at The Red Lion in Houston, TX. Dark roasted malt flavor with espresso and cocoa notes, interestingly light ( I guess that's the mild part in the name) not something I would drink again.
4.0 14.9oz can into a pint glass. Date of August 23, 2012 on the bottom. Presumably a best by date. An aggressive pour yields a half finger tan head although with very good retention. Aroma is definitely metallic but smelling past that, chocolate and coffee dominate with some sweet caramel in the background. The taste has none of the metal present in the aroma. Bitter coffee and dark chocolate followed by a little bit of burnt caramel. Very drying bitterness much like strong coffee. In fact, this beer is very espresso-like. A little bit of nutty-ness and dried fruit but it is very faint. Mouthfeel is thin as to be expected but not as bad as I was fearing. Overall, a very, very impressive beer for only being 3.2%. Tons more flavor than any light beer on the market. This is a beer you could literally sip on all day. Oh how I wish we could get more beers like this in the states. I would buy case loads!
3.6 Looks great in a pint glass. Dark black with a hint of ruby when held up to the light and a head that lasts. Nice dark roasted malt flavor profile, espresso and dark chocolate. A thin watery mouthfeel though but not a deal breaker. Aroma is similar to the flavor, roasted malt and mocha. Overall, a nice beer to have when you don’t want to get hammered.
2.9 Dark colour with a creamy tan head. Mild roasted aroma. Also a very mild flavour and a bit flat. Roasted malt, chocolate and espresso notes. Mild but yet tasty and easy drinkable. A bit light texture. [Can from a friend in Liverpool]
3.8 440 ml can into imperial pint glass, best before 8/23/2012. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a small light tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, molasses, toffee, biscuit, toast, milk chocolate, nuttiness, earth, and light herbal hops. Very nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and decent strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, chocolate, biscuit, nuttiness, earth, light raisin, and herbal spiciness. Very light herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, earth and herbal on the finish for a short bit. Some decent flavor balance with a fair amount of flavor overall. No cloying flavors at all. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is good. No alcohol noticed other than a minimal warming after the finish. Very smooth and easy to drink as expected. Overall this is a nice mild. Nice fairly robust flavors; and very smooth to drink. I hope to find more milds in the future, there really aren’t too many available in the states.
2.9 Can. Very dark brown with some slight ruby glints. Moderate, bubbly beige head that doesn’t take long to disperse to absolutely nothing. Aroma of roast, caramel, chocolate. Taste is muddy, roasty, and lightly bitter with a slight molasses flavor. Body is light with very little carbonation and a slick texture; it’s almost flat. Not exciting, but not bad.
2.9 Small tan head with fair retention, no lace.Dark brown with ruby edging. Malty, milk chocolatey nose. Light bodied, soft carbonation, lil oily. malted milk flavors, faint chocolate and roast. Dry lightly roasty finish. Interesting, sorta. Can from statelineliquors.
2.7 Can from total wine McLean. Pours black with no head. Not much on the nose. Slight malt and licorice notes on the tongue. Finishes clean. Kinda boring!
