Caldera Hop Hash IPA

Caldera Hop Hash IPA

Kettle Series. This beer gets its name from the Hopunion Hop Hash nuggets - pure hop lupulin extracted and scraped from the Hopunion pelletizing line, then boiled for 90 minutes in the kettle. According to the brewer, this has never been done before! Premium 2-row, Great Western Munich, Crisp 60L and rolled oats comprise the grain bill designed to carry this load. Fermented warm using American Ale yeast to bring out the fruitiness, the resulting beer is designed to be a surprise on all fronts. Even the brewer has no idea how hoppy it’ll be.

3.4 Quite good, dense & fine yellowish head, very stable over finely carbonated deeper orange-amber beer. Bit caramelly, fresh green leaves, resiny hops. Seem to get celeri. Bitter, vegetable, even metallic, but with a caramelly, cake-bottom underbuild. Good balance, anyway. Again something soupy-celeri. Waming up, coriander??? Fresh, even greenmalt retronasal. Medium bodied, quite slick; velvety-creamy MF from the head. Far from bad, but not really great.
3.6 Bottle: pours dark amber with a thin white head, aroma is hoppy, taste is hoppy and malty, slight sweetness with a dry finish.
3.6 Pour is a thick and lazy bold gold. Tiny little head that retains. Smell is strong hops and citrus blended together, there was definitely a grapefruit or lemon peel scent to this, even a lemon zest kind of smell and taste. Taste is the hop forefront, tiny bit of fruitiness and other tastes. Residual bitter hop taste with small waves of citrus hitting.
3.4 light amber color. Malty nose with tea and pine notes. Spicy hoppy nose with big malty backbone. A bit dirty, but ok. Pretty simple.
3.8 Bottle @ Local Pub, Athens. Color hazy orange with medium white head. Aroma malt, hoppy, caramel, pine. Taste sweet, pine, hoppy, bitter finish.
3.1 650ml botle at The Local Pub, Athens. Gusher. Light hazy golden orange color with off white head. Light malty and hoppy aroma, caramel, pine. Sweet and bitter taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
3.9 Mooie oranje kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt fruitig, hop, orange. Smaakt fruitig, hop, citrus, orange.
4.0 Oranje ondoorzichtig bier met een kleine witte schuim kraag. Ruikt zoet fruit, tropisch. Smaakt bitter, zoet fruit, ananas.
4.5 Aroma: Medium-high hops, citrus, tropical fruit. Medium caramel. Appearance: Clear, amber body. Large, rocky white head. Flavour: Medium bitterness. Medium-high hops, citrus, tropical fruits, pine, resin, peppery. Dry finish with high lingering resin and bitterness. Malt balance is good. Mouthfeel: Medium-high body, medium creamy, carbonation. Overall: Aggressively hoppy! An enjoyable beer. The maltiness on the aroma is higher than expected. 660 ml bottle, poured. 14B. American IPA
2.8 Draft at Beer Temple with Barry, Al, and Kief. Pours Red and tastes sweet. Not sure what I was expecting from this below average brewer. Medium bodied. Terrible job with the hop oil extraction.
3.4 On tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam Netherlands. Dark amber color with a thin beige head. Aromas of a nice sweet fruits marmelade. Taste is sweet fruity, with a bit out of place spicy character. Medium body with medium carbonation.
3.6 Bottle. A: Pours out a cloudy amber body with a gigantic creme color head that threatens to runneth over the cusp of my glass. N: Pine, grapefruit, earth, cracker, fresh leaves with a woodsy smell followed by a good floral smash. Some pineapple and further citrus as the beer opens up. T: Potently bitter, yet, there’s enough malt here to prop this up so it’s hoppy and not astringent. M: Very dry, medium body, soft carbonation, light alcohol. This one will scrap out your throat but what good. O: A solid IPA. It’s definitely for those people who like the pinier side of things, though I must also admit that I found it very good even if I have a preference for the citrus. A good one I would have again.

3.5 Hazy amber, off-white head. Strong citrus hops, some malts and a chemical plasticy off-flavour. The body is dry, little malts, strong and harsh grassy bitterness. Something went wrong here.

3.6 (Caldera Hop Hash IPA) Bottle 650 ml at home, served into a tulip, ABV 6.5% Deep orange colour on the body two full fingers of thick, off-white head, with very good retention, leaving medium lacing around the glass. Light orange and tangerine on the aroma, some caramel malts too. Taste is mildly sweet at first, with light oranges, tangerine, cake, jelly, good bitterness on the finsih and the afterrtaste though. Medium body with good carbonation. Not bad, quite drinkable.

3.6 Draught at the Caldera Brewing Co, Ashland, CA. Clear deep amber colour with a small off-white head. Mild fruity and sweet hoppy aroma with some sweet maltiness. The flavour is a bit drier with fruity and piney hops, moderate bitterness and sweet maltiness. Tasty.
3.4 Aromat: niezbyt intensywny, chmielowy z nutami żywiczno- cytrusowymi. Po otwarciu nie przekonuje, ale z czasem się wzmacnia i robi się całkiem przyjemny. W tle wyraźna słodowa karmelowość oraz lekkie nuty utlenienia. Barwa: głęboko złocista, do bursztynowej, lekko zamglona. Piana biało- żółta, drobno pęcherzykowa, średniej wielkości i umiarkowanie trwała. Ślicznie oblepia szkło. Smak: lekko słodki, słodowy z wyraźną nutą karmelu oraz lekko opiekaną. Następnie nieco kwaskowości i chmielowa kontra.
