Caldera Kettle Series Rauch Ur Bock

Caldera Kettle Series Rauch Ur Bock

Caldera’s Rauch Ur Bock is a German-style lager billowing with intense cherry and beachwood smoke flavors. We used two different smoked grains in this lager, one cured with cherrywood and the other cured with beachwood. Warning, this beer has an intense smoked flavor.

3.7 Bottle from Biernavigatie, large sample. Clear amber color, short frothy head. Aroma of smoked ham, slight leather, some caramel. Bit dry and smokey in taste as well, bit salty ham, smoke. Love the aroma.
3.6 Bottle. Deep brown color with a thin layer of creamy beige head. Nose is intense smoke, smoked cheese comes to mind. Just a little bit of sweetness too, same in the taste. The sweet bock does well to compliment the smoke. For such a heavy smoke presence it really is drinkable. That said, a 7oz pour was enough.
3.8 Bottle. Amber color, good foam. Aroma: malty and wine, smoked, dried fruits and prunes. Taste: smoked cheese, malty, smoked, wine, nice.
3.7 Klares Kupfer mit reichlich Schaum. Rauchig, Speck, Holz, etwas Karamell, leicht fruchtig,
3.9 Brilliant dark amber color with beige head. Aroma is smoked ham all the way, along with some sweet toasted malts. Taste is malty sweet with the same smoked ham and sausage. Body is medium and quite smooth. Very nice rauchbier, reminds me of the traditional german variants.
3.5 Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours medium brown with a huge beige head and a very smoky aroma. There is a medium-bodied smoked malt flavor with a dry bitter ashy finish.
3.6 Fonefan100415. Amber-orange colour with a beige head. Aroma is smoked, malt, hop, caramel, bacon. Flavour is sweet, smoked, malt, hop, caramel, bacon. Nice beer.
3.8 650ml bottle. Clear, dark copper colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sweetish caramel malty and intensely but mildly smoky aroma, associations of smoked eel and smoked trout, hints of prune, bacon-wrapped prunes (Pflaumen im Speckmantel), ashes. Taste is dry, intensely smoky, peaty, hints of wet ashes, subtle hints of chocolate. Wow! One of the best smoked beers following the Schlenkerla path.
3.8 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear amber with a thick, long-lasting white head. Aromas of red fruit, smoke, something nutty too. Taste is light smoke, red fruit. Clean finish. Good stuff.
3.6 Bottle at Appellation Wines. Pours deep amber. Nose is smoke, ham, sweet malts. Taste is quite sweet, gentle smoke. Very nice, gentle smokiness. Actually quite sweet.
3.5 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - amber with a nice fluffy head. Nose - smoked ham, some orange fruit. Taste - yeah, orange and smoked ham. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy and smoky texture with a dry smoky finish. Overall - a good example of the smoked style. The fruitiness balances the smoke out somewhat.
3.4 @ Basunen 15-8-22: Tydlig rökig doft. Smaken mer av salt skinka. Fin balans. Helt ok.
4.0 Mahogany colour, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, smoke, berries and liquorice. Taste is light sweet, light bitter, a bit salty. Medium body, oily to creamy texture, soft carbonation. Very interesting.
3.7 Bomber from Capital Market. Hazy deep maroon in color. Nose is BBQ and dark fruit. Some sea water as well. Smoke up front in the flavor. The dark fruit and sweetness from the bock still come through. Smoke throughout, but still has the taste of a pretty good bock. Really well balanced flavors. Nothing is overpowering, just tasty.
3.9 Bottle from co-op. Underpriced and undervalued. Perfect example of the German rauch style. Sweet, smokey aroma, more smoke in the taste. Malt, bacon, maple syrup, taste is initially sweet, followed by cured meat. Pretty solid throughout.
3.5 650ml bottle, 06/06/15. Pours a nice copper with medium head. Aroma is smoke, caramel, some fruitiness and flowers, Taste is smoky, caramel, fruitiness there as well. Smoked meat, ham. Pretty nice.
4.0 Bomber from Oliver’s in Albany. Pours out a medium copper color. Intense, complex aromas of smoke and malts. Flavor has a good malty backbone that is well balanced with layers of differing smoke. Smooth and very drinkable, with an Americanized twist on a German Classic.
3.4 22 oz bottle. Courtesy of Timo A. Clear amber colour with a small off-white head. Smoke, smoky ham and malt in the aroma. The flavour is smoke, bitterness, malt and some alcohol. Smoky malty brew.

3.6 Bottle @ Post-Easter Procrastination, Ulfborg. Pours slightly hazy darkish amber with small off-white head. Clear, intense aroma of smoke, with notes of caramel malt and touches of hops. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with notes of hops and rather intense notes of smoke permeating the entire tasting experience well into the aftertaste. Well-balanced and decent
3.6 Bottle. Pours dark copper in color with an off-white head. Smoked ham, sweet dark fruity notes and bready malts in aroma. Quite smooth mouthfeel. Smoked bacon and bit of campfire in taste. Slightly sweet bbq notes in finish. Delicious.
3.3 Intensiv rauchiger, gleichzeitig weicher Antrunk. Süffig, süßlich herb, dunkle Malzigkeit. Etwas vergoren fruchtig, insgesamt bleibt das Bier konstant. Gut! 9/10/11/11//11
3.6 Orange rötliche Farbe, fingerbreite leicht beige Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr rauchig, viel Holz, etwas Whiskey. Geschmack rauchig malzig, holzig, dann geht das ganze ins süßliche hinüber, leicht alkoholisch.
3.6 Bomber. Smells and tastes quite smoky, more pork than cigarettes. The base is sweet caramel, which is right for this sort of thing. Right level of body and carbonation. Doesn’t feel like 7.5% to me.
3.2 Bottle. Light amber, average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, light caramel and some smokiness with light bacon. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, light caramel and smokiness with faint alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light - some smokiness with faint - light bacon, light alcohol. OK smoked with nice aroma. Flavor/finish lacks smokiness (compared to aroma) - finish has too much alcohol considering the body. Cannot be comprered with those from Bamberg or Schlenkerla.
3.3 Tasted on 1/31/12 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle. Pours clear dark amber with an average beige head that slowly recedes to a thin collar of lace. The nose is smokey with toasted cocoa nibs and a touch of caramel. The flavor is even smokier with nutty toasted cocoa nibs and some nice caramel and coffee malt. The body is full with average carbonation and a long smokey finish.
