2.3 On tap at The Kenilworth, Edinburgh. Comes with a golden color and a small white head. Nose is a little simple: some malts, some yeast, some citric aromas, some herbal aromas. Nothing overhanging. Taste follows the nose.
2.9 Pint from cask. I found the taste to be a bit caramel and biscuity. Sweet malts and not a patch on the fruity IPAs currently available from small breweries.
3.2 Cask. Gold in colour. Hoppy, lemon-citrus bitter. Some caramel malt. Good hop/malt balance. Nice bitterness. Long dry bitter finish. Sessionable. OK. (2008)
0.8 Clear golden liquid, average head. Aroma of yeast, with a tiny hint of hops. Light body, no carbonation. Taste is a bit bitter.
3.1 On tap in an Edinburgh pub. Aroma of gentle fruit, biscuit, some herbal notes. Appearance: pale, slightly hazy, good white head with ok retention. Taste is low bitter and low sweet, more biscuit and low fruitiness, some dough. light body, slick feel, soft carbonation, finish is medium long and barely leaves any bitterness. Overall a very gentle "IPA" that is less hoppy and less bitter than most of todays pale ale’s. The beer is a bit watery but probably does appeal to a wide audience.
2.3 Draft at the Marquis of Wellington. Listed as I P S, in RB ad a bittersweet, smells like vinegar. Taste improved it, only slightly. If tasting this blind, I would have guessed a sour gone wrong. Cidery, tart, sour. What were they thinking.
2.8 On cask @ Oran Mor, Glasgow - UK. Color: clear amber beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: caramel malt and small resin hint. Taste: light body with caramel malt balanced with resin hops. High attenuation, quiet drinkable. Aftertaste: resin and caramel. Bitterness.
3.7 From a cask at the Drovers Inn in the Scottish Highlands. Golden body with excellent clarity and lacing with a terrific, creamy head. Mild aroma dominated by sweet malts. Hops slightly dominate the malts in the mildly bitter flavor. Excellent soft mouthfeel.
3.1 Cask tasted at the Ensign Ewart, Edinburgh on the August 10th 2016. Golden to amber colour with a thick white head. Aroma of apples, light malty and unripe fruit. Apple taste, sour notes, very light hoppy. Flat carbonation and light aftertaste. Next one please!
2.8 Cask HP at The Crosse Keys London as Caledonian Deuchars IPA, 3.8%. Light amber orange, still and clear with a small ring of white foam. Aroma is thin apple, papery, touch of soap, lemonade shandy. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is apple, soft malt, white bread and toasted plain crumpet, some shandy, musty damp flannel finish. Just ok. Could drink pints reluctantly.
3.3 (tap 1 pint @ Boat Inn (Nottingham)) Quick rating - shared with others English hops, bitter, average.
2.4 Lukt: Trevirke, humle og malt. Utseende: Gulbrun. Skum/kullsyre: Dekkende skum. Smak: Frukter, trevikre, humle og malt. Hvor: Cabbage Patch (Fullers), Twickenham. Medium: Tapp@250ml, ABV@3,8%, Når@01.07.2016
2.5 Tap at Serpentine bar & kitchen in Hyde Park. Crisp enough but lacking in flavour. Very light. Bitter finish.
2.4 Cask @ Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours clear amber, white head. Aroma is biscuity malts, taste is biscuity sweet, floral, light cream.. not floating my boat this.
3.3 Cask at Rose Street Brewery Edinburgh, june 16th 2015. Hazy bright golden body with a big white head. Aroma is hoppy, pine, grass and flowers. Taste has some spicy yeast esters, citrus fruit and a dry bitterness. Good thirst quencher.
2.5 Pint at Fiddler’s Arms, Edinburgh. No real aroma to speak of, slight grassiness. Flat but with good white creamy head. Taste slightly fruity and sweet, lacking bitterness.
3.2 No aroma to speak of and only its name and history keep it from being classed as a golden ale. Pleasant on the palate and not in the least bit sweet, the over-riding flavour is of freshly baked bread. Surprisingly bitter finish. Very drinkable.
3.0 Cask. Aroma of roasted malt. Golden colour with lace top. Tastes of wholemeal bread and bread. Light and easy drinking with a refreshing bitter sparkle in the finish. My ideal session bitter if the aim was mainly to keep company but it’s unlikely to win a CAMRA award these days given the abundance of great IPAs around.
3.0 Cask a golden yellow colored beer with a white head aroma malts citrus fruits and hops flavor malts citrus fruits spices some earthly hops
3.4 Ship tavern, cask. Duchars IPA 3,8% a deep golden orange with an old school UK IPA aroma that is more malty than hoppy. Soft bodied with a distinct earthy tobacco leaf & lemon flavor. Interesting as a mild or English bitter but not really my image of an IPA.
2.5 Cask at the Assembly Rooms, Epsom (JDW). pours clear golden brown with a white head. Aroma of malt and lemon. Harshly bitter finish.
3.2 On draft at the Scotsman pub off the mile in Edinburgh... Golden pour with white head... Mild hop finish... Went week with the Scottish sing along!!! Caledonia here I come!!!
2.8 Faint hoppy aroma with yeasty notes. Clear gold colour. Slight bitter front with notes of bread and weak hoppy finish. Medium body with low carbonation. Sufficiently pleasant and easily drinkable, but not too interesting.
2.6 Cask at The John Duck, Durham, £2.50/pint. Pours yellowish golden amber. Sweet biscuity barnyard aroma. Hints of tropical fruit, a little thin, very sessionable but really quite dull. Plenty of more interesting IPAs out there.
3.2 Tried at the three stags, Bebbington. Golden colour thin white head, aroma has a slight fruitiness, the taste has a definite bitter finish.
3.4 Pours copper with low head. Aroma is malts and hops. Taste is bitter malts and hops. Nice palate.
3.2 Light clear golden colour with light fluffy white head. Lively nosecwith some trace of hops. Starts firm but as time moves on it loses structure. Tasty to a degree but lacks concentration and substance as it once did.
3.1 Several hand-pumped pints whilst in Edinburgh. The perfect colour for an IPA, but a touch on the light side in depth. A great session ale.
3.0 Nice deep golden color with a thick creamy off white head. Fruity, mild citric and some toffee in the aroma. Medium body. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation. Toffee, fruity and mild citric flavor. Ok pleasant easy drinkable handpull ale. [Handpull at Waldorf in Manchester, England]
