Cambridge Red God IPA

Cambridge Red God IPA

Blessed be! Our ridiculously big, hoppy I.P.A. returns to the rapturous exaltations of worshippers far and near.
Featuring Simcoe, Amarillo, and Columbus hops at an unheard of rate of over three pounds per barrel, with American pale and Belgian caramel malts providing a malty but dry pedestal upon which this hop fest rides until its long, lingering,hop-bittered finish. Beware this vengeful, Old-Testament God. Say your prayers…

3.5 ’Imperial red ale’ so a kind of hybrid between Irish red and imperial IPA. Pale beige, creamy head quickly dissipating under influence of the alcohol, deep copper red colour, hazy. Powerful aroma of figues, cooked rhubarb, gin, cloves, leafy hops, tonic water, cognac, amaretto, grapefruit peel. Fruity sweetness, slick and resinous, medium carbo, citrus freshness, caramel malt base, ever more hoppy towards the end, soft and herbal at first but sharp and tonic water-like in the tail, lots of booze too, alcohol not well hidden, even a bit wry.
3.6 Bottle. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose/taste of caramel malt, sap, dank citrus and grapefruit peel, orange peel, resin and dirty earthy grass. medium body.
3.6 Aroma of malts, caramel, sweet fruits, raisins, hops. Flavour is sweet malty caramel and fruity, leading to a moderate bitter dry finish. Very much on the sweet malty side of DIPA.
4.1 Bottle from Erzbierschof - Hazy amber color with a frothy tan heas, really good lasting and lacing - Aroma is monstrously hoppy, fruity, citrusy, grapefruit, exotic fruits with a punchy malt backbone, caramel - Flavor is maty, resinous hops, caramel, plum and dried raisin - medium body, strong bitterness, fizzy carbonation, dry, long bitter malty finish - Really good, very dry for 9% alcohol
3.7 Pours a red brown with a beige head and hoppy, citrusy aroma. Taste is bitter, nice hoppy notes with citrus, grapefruit, and resin leading to a heavy bitter finish.
3.6 Bomber. Pours a dark muddy brown amber color with no head. Nose is deep citrus with some pine and resin as well. Taste is bitter with strong alcohol up front and citrus, resin and pine in the background. Finish is bitter and moderately long, and ends on the same tasting notes. Quaff Score 7 / 10
4.2 22oz bomber pours with a clear ruby red amber sort of body that supports a full tan head of foam. Nice looking beer. The aroma offers up resiny hops, floral hops, plum flavored gummy bears and some orange notes. The resiny hop aroma just keeps going despite the sweetness and this leads to resiny hoppy booze at the end of the draw. This taste is hoppy bitter and rich with sweetness. This is nice where there’s a pleasing mix of sweet malts, a dash of roasted malts, some fruity esters and then near robust levels of resiny pine like hops blended with bitter floral hops and some citrus hoppiness. Resiny hops and a sliver of roasted malts usher this to closure. This is coming together beautifully. Yum!
4.5 Hazy dark auburn amber under a fluffy foamy light beige head. The nose smells like a sweet hoppy dream, with some caramel-covered grapefruit, some strong yet soft floral tones, gentle leafy resins, and a wee bit of tropical mango. The taste has a very forward bitterness with a lovely amount of pine and floral hop notes, tasty grampefruit, earthy citrus rind, a bit of earthy leafy hop resins, and a boozy caramel and amber malt body. Sweet flavor with a dry mouthfeel, and loads of hop bitterness.
3.8 Bomber shared by Marcus. Pours ruddy copper with a beige head. Aroma of fruit hop and a touch of chocolate. Med body. Flavor is hoppy with fruit and citrus. Mild not-quite-roasty malt with a hint of chocolate. Finishes towards dry.
3.9 Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours reddish amber with a thick beige head and a fruity aroma. There is a hearty roasted malt flavor with a little fruit and a bitter finish.
3.6 Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours red/brown. Taste is Carmel malts. Some bitterness and some fruit hops.
4.3 Usually not a red ale guy, but like this one. Key here is that while it has all the typical red all attributes, it’s more malt forward and a bit less bitter/hoppy. As a result, the flavor really comes through.
3.3 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours hazy dark amber with a small creamy white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, peach and strong piney hops. Taste is sweet malty, subduing the fine hops, herbal and piney almost hidden by the malts. Light sticky mouthfeel.Bitter pine and minty end.
3.7 Bottle @ Richard’s Tasting. Amber colored pour with an off-white head. Sweet caramel malts on the nose along with a lot of grapefruit, pine, and orange. Plenty of hops to overcome the malt. Fairly sweet taste. Lots of toffee and caramel. Heavy on the grapefruit and pine with a decent orange note. Slight nuttiness (peanut brittle?). Drinks pretty good.
3.4 This beer has a beautiful red brown color. It has the aroma of citrus and hops. I felt it was a little too bitter on the flavor.
3.7 Murky auburn with beige head. Sparse lace. Doughy malt caramel nose. A big beer. Huge malt. More bread. Caramely with nutty edges. Nice even bitterness. A little dry on the backend. Really nice. Dig this brewery.
3.8 22 ounce bottle from Whole Foods. Big reddish brown pour. Nice hoppy aroma. Malty and rich. It made me hum Kiss’ "God of Thunder" to myself for some odd reason.
3.6 Sample at CBC, solidly hopped red.. reminiscent of brian boru from FFF, big thick hops.. nice solidly bitter taste with coating ideals.. bar keep was quite proud of it, until I said I’ve had better.
3.5 Pours hazy amber red with minimal lacing tan head. Aroma is full of caramel, hops, and a bit of booze. Flavor is moderately heavy on the sweetness with bitter permeating throughout. Crisp oily body with a medium body. Great beer
3.8 Bottled. Pours a hazy amber with a medium sized, lacing beige head. Aroma of toasted caramel, citrus and pine. Sweet flavor that ends up quite bitter. Medium bodied, oilt text. and soft carb. An excellent brew.
Íze igen édeskésen, vegyes déligyümölcsös lekvárral kezd, csipkebogyóval, malátával, aztán bekapcsolódnak a kegyetlenül gyantás komlók keserűje, ami alaposan megcsavarja az édestől ellazult nyelvünket. Közepesen testes és kellemesen szénsavas, a magas alkoholtartalom is jó elvan rejtve benne. Utóíze gyümölcsös, keserédes, a legvége férfiasan keserű és igen száraz.
3.6 Bottle @ RBESG. Aroma is caramel malt, some fruit, expected more hops. Flavour is big malty caramel, some hop bitterness, but misisng a lot of hops I guess.
4.1 1st December 2012 Hazy dark amber - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is slightly soft and has nice fine carbonation. Luxuriant creamy malt, soft and with caramel and toffee streaks. Hops are well balanced with equal amounts of skunk, grass and citrus. Finishes smooth with a good grassy hop aftertaste. Nice Imperial Red!
3.4 Slightly hazy amber colour, beige head. Aroma of hops, quite fruity, tropical fruit, light pine, passion fruit. Hoppy flavour, light bitter, malts and honey. Bitter hoppy finish, tropical fruits. (From 66cL bottle @ RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting, Bodegraven. Thanks for sharing, dEnk!)
3.6 650ml bottle. Pours a hazy copper chestnut, with a large off-white head, which lasts quite well and leaves decent lacing. Raspberry, floral and pine resin hops notes mix with fruitcake and toffee malt in the aroma. Powerful pine resin and floral hops up front segue into raspberry leading into the mid-palate, where it blends with candied fruit and burnt caramel malt. The burnt caramel continues into the finish, where it blends with more floral hops. This is a pretty good red IPA, with some nice hops flavours. R’hllor would doubtless approve.
4.0 dark amber colour, huge beige head, which however collapses quite quickly; very pleasant aroma of citrussy (mainly grapefruit) and floral hops, bread, hints of honey and maybe some minimal alcohol; taste of hoppy bitterness and significant amount of malty sweetness (this latter one is a bit too intensive for me, ruining a bit the harmony of hops); not bad imperial IPA, but a bit overpriced ...and my bottle indicates also 9% ABV
3.5 Bottle. Strangely my bottle says 9% alcohol. Dark amber, small top. Best part of this beer is aroma. Really nice bready hoppiness in there. Taste is a little bit dissapointing. Sweetness of the strong beer is overwhelming and even kills the hops. Nice beer, but needs some tweaks to become a great beer.
