3.5 Bottle. Pours brown tan head. Nose/taste of straight up blackberry with some earthy roast. Touch of cocoa. Medium body.
3.6 Bottle. Brune pour with tan head. Blackberry aromas. Schwartzbeer with blackberry, no dark malts to speak of .
3.4 Lovely lighter stout. The blackberry and cranberry mixture is a very nice flavouring however the sting blackberry overtones leave a bit harsh of an after taste. Works well as a desert liqueur in substitution of port or ice wine.
4.0 Part of a bomber. Pours a deep brown with ruby edges and a generous tan cap that sustains pretty well. Amazing blackberry-forward aroma, with a balanced coffee note, and subtle but welcome hints of chocolate. Taste is a very good balance of bitter and sweet. Long dry finish from a low carbonated, silky mouthfeel.
3.8 The taste is an interesting mix of sweet, bitter and roasted flavours. Up front is the berry taste, sweet but mild. Next comes a touch of bitterness from the hops, and the lingering finish with dark chocolate. Nice easy drinker.
3.7 Rating #979 -February 15, 2014 - $5.79 CAD for a 650ml Bomber from Co-op. Pours a deep black with a bubbly tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is chocolate, roast malts, mild berry jam. Blackberry jam is highlighted on the palate, but doesn’t dominate the porter character of roast malt bitterness and toffee, cocoa sweetness. Very nice and understated for a fruit beer.
3.4 Solid porter with a light hand adding blackberry essence without overwhelming the beer. Roasty, malty, tasty.
3.4 Tasty little porter. A little thinner and lighter than I like them, but the aroma is nice, a mix of coffee and blackberry. Appearance is a cola pour with next to no head. Taste is only okay; 6/10 here, beats the average beer but nothing at all to write home about. Gentle blackberry notes over a thin, watery porter. Palate is decent, if watery. Overall, 14/20. -- One good note is that this isn’t like some Wychwood Brewing monstrosity; the blackberry flavors are subtle and accent the beer instead of dominating no. No taste of artificial flavoring here.
3.5 A nice dark beer, a limitless on the sweeter blackberry side . Smells of roasted malts and if course , blackberry fruit. The taste has roasted malt characters and a balanced blackberry fruit taste. Sweet but not over the top. Makes for an enjoyable darker beer with an easy drinking characteristic.
3.3 Pours cola with limited head and minimal lacing. Nose is berry with a hint or roasted malt. Notes of berries, some light coffee, some bitter earthy hops. Taste is light/med sweet and light bitter. Light body with medium carbonation. Nice beer.
3.5 pours clear brown with a decent of-white head, some retention. roastiness and slightly burnt caramel with a quite nice dark fruity and discernable presence - berries for sure, touch of spices and minerals. average carbonation, light body - some texture, bit of sweetness. well done fruity porter.
3.8 Pours a very dark brown letting some light through and a small light brown ring around the glass with great legs. Aroma is blackberry fist and formost, roasted malts, sweetness and cocoa follow. Flavour is a more tart blackberry, roasted malts, cocoa, a bit of alcohol harshness when colder, smooth when allowed to warm up a few degrees and a mild bitterness. Great balance on the flavour, this is my kind of fruit beer!
3.4 Faint ring of head. Light carbonation. Sweet blackberry smells mixed with vanilla malts. Nice berry start fades to malt with a touch of sweetness left in the mouth. Distinct, but not complex. True to its name and style. Enjoyable and easy to drink.
3.7 Blackberry juice aroma, with a bit of dark malt as it warms. Black and translucent, nice mocha head. Taste is interesting, kind of unexpected from the aroma. Most of the blackberry flavor comes through in the aftertaste, on first tasting get some roasty malt. Not much hop bitterness, fairly short finish. A bit thin, higher than average carbonation. Not bad.
3.7 Draft at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver. Very little head, dark in color, lots of lacing. Blackberries not so much there in aroma, but huge in finish. Rich, malty body, really enjoyable. Long finish leans heavier on the hops, but this is overall a really well-balanced beer, high on the complexity. Really the absence of fruit in the aroma should be seen as a good thing, as the overall taste of the beer comes off as a bit less sweet without, and more of a surprise. If you don’t mind the idea of fruit in your beer, this is one to look for!
3.3 Pours a almost dark with nice head aroma and taste is huge blackberries. Very nice winter beer.
2.3 (bottle) clear dark brown colour with small brown head; aromas of sour fruit, flavour of sour fruit; little to none porter character, more like bad sour fruit juice
4.4 Once I opened it I could smell blackberry juice smell from a distance & that kicked ass. But bottle to nose showd some roasted bitterness smell. I used my tall hobgobline glass & recived like a 3 finger bubley cola brown head that seemed like it was thick(IDK)and lasted. Black beer but to light some dark red to it and thats when you can see throw it a bit. Taste is blackberry like juice that slides all the way throw and then is mostly gone but stays in a sourish after taste,I also got all this roastedness, chocolate taste & some bitterness. Sits a bit heavy/full in belly from the hops. I can enjoy fruit beers and had other fuit porters b4. Fan of porters and this is not blowing me away taste wise like the 1st smell but still a kick ass easy driking yummy brew cheer’s! :)
3.8 Smells like blackberry, some malt - pretty rich aroma. Pours dark brown/black with some head and pretty good lacing. Palate is medium to high. Taste has bitterness which tastes like a mix between roasty malt and blackberry. A bit of sourness as well. Bottle from LCBO.
3.4 650ml bottle. Deep brown body, reddish tones, good mocha head. Aroma of blackberries, cocoa, roasted malts, pretty sweet. Taste is far less sweet, sour berries, dark chocolate, wood charcoal, coffee and caramel. Good bitter aftertaste. Pleasant.
3.9 Pours a clear dark black with an reddish head to it. Smells of sweet blackberries and chocolate malts. Taste is a well balanced fruitiness with a full bodied Porter that’s bod on flavor. Alcohol seems kind of hot at first but balances well with the fruit and chocolate and cocoa malts.
3.0 It pours deep dark brown, almost black with ruby highlights; the head is beige and foamy (long lasting). The aroma has notes of: blackberry, dark-chocolate, and sweet malt. The taste is light sweet that finishes light-medium bitter, and light sour; there are notes of: sour berries, peach (hops), faint chocolate, and light charcoal. The palate is light-medium bodied, oily, light carbonation, and long finish. Overall, the beer lacks flavour, the blueberry is definitely present, but the porter backbone is water...
3.5 Bottle from LCBO. Pours nearly black with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted barley and sweet berries. Smooth and creamy taste, at the same time roasty, and only a little hint of berries. Thick mouthfeel.
3.4 Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a dark brown/black with low fine tan head. Smell is almost entirely sweet fruity blackberry, but there’s a small hint of some roasted malts in the back. Palate is quite nice, some soft yet active carbonation and a medium body. Taste is not as sweet as the smell would have you expect, you really don’t get much taste at all, just a bit of sweetness at first, then some slight bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.5 650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown/red with one finger of head. Aromas of blackberry jam and roasted malts. Similar taste though more than a bit acidic. But overall quite nice.
3.4 Bottle sample. Again I’m surprised I haven’t rated this earlier. Pours clear black, very pale tan head, spotty lacing. Nose is light roast, lots of blackberry... Very pleasant nose, but little here that’s not blackberry. Flavours of (surprise!) blackberry, medium roast, nice body and weight. No "artificial" fruit character, nice spice and balance. A lively fruit beer with some real complexity in the mouth.
4.0 Great. Beer. I’m not one for fruity ales, but this one pours a beautiful deep ruby-red/mahogany, and tastes even better. Subtle but encaptivating hints of blackberry poke through a strong malty sweetness. Good for a bottle or two for sure.
3.5 650 ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with a large head. Aromas were ripe blueberry/blackberry sweetness with a touch of tart citrus. Taste was reflective of smell but was more tart blueberry/blackberry rather than sweet. There was also a hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel was relatively thin, moderate carbonation, medium bitter finish. A unique beer, would consider it again.
3.6 650ml bottle pours a dark browish red color with a 2 finger off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild berries with some chocolate and mild hops. Taste is a berry and choclate malty sweetness with a mild hop bitterness. Medium bodied with some mild carbonation. This is a quite well done fruity porter and highly recommended.
2.6 The first sip makes you realize that this has no characteristics to a porter at all, seems just like a malty fruit beer. Not overly great to tell you the truth, the roasty blackberries and the sickly sweetness of this just don’t make a great combo. Seems to linger forever as well, not enjoyable. Seriously, the LCBO de-lists Dogfish 60 Minute IPA and have the balls to bring this in?? What a bunch of...... 650ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Opened on September 30, 2010. No date.
