4.2As Pinot D’aunis
Tap at moeder lambic Fontainas. Hazy red body with a medium pink head. Funk, fruity, red grapes, red berries, barnyard, tartness. Lovely.
4.2Tap at Moeder as Pinot d'Anis. Aroma of citrus, red grapes, hay, barnyard, Wood. Moderate zesty Sour with lingering fruity sourness. Light and juicy texture. A good One..
4.6Bottle at Moeder, split 3 ways with the wife and Mike (bytemesis), cheers! Pour is a rose-red, small carb gives an thin pink-ish head. Aroma is of barnyard, horse blanket, pinot grape, wet oak, light hay, light berry skin. Taste is a gorgeous medley of grape skins, funky vinous notes, medium hay, medium horse blanket. Great balance of the tart and the funk...all tied together with a sticky wine note. FInishes with signature Cantillon funk, semi-tart, semidry. Fantastic!
4.72014 Pineau d’Aunis.
Golden-cranberry with a pink-tinged head that is large and well-retained for the style.
Aw yes, that stinks very nicely. This is like the fresh Cantillons from 10 or so years ago that I used to drink so regularly (as opposed to it being impossible to find now). Just a lovely, sulfur-rich nose with tart, bright, brett and grape acids mixing very nicely together. No real acetic character and light lactic notes, with tons and tons of rich, leathery, horseblanket-like barnyard. Not as much fruit as many of the other grape lambics I’ve had, but still enough to add complexity. No alcohol or flaw.
Similar flavor, with a highly effervescent, well-attenuated, malt/wheat-soft palate, vivacious grape notes (piquant currant, cranberry, gooseberry) with tons of brett and lactic character and a moderately-strong sourness with tons of tartness lingering behind the teeth. Superb and elegant.
4.8Bottle -2014 Pineau d’aunis. Grana Padano share - pours rose red pink head - nose/taste of pinot grape frunk, oak, vinous notes, hay - medium body
4.0On tap @ Zwanze 2016 [as Pineau d’Aunis]. Hazy dark orange with a small off-white head. Funk, tart, apricot, citrus and vinous aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is tart with fruity and bitter notes. Overall, a very good beer.
4.0Pours a murky dark grapefruit with a white lacing. The aroma is grapefruit, vinegar and citrus. Flavor is moderately tart and palate is dry
4.1Bottle @ Cantillon 15/5-15. [ As Pinot D’Aunis ]. Fruity with red grapes/cherries and brett. Dry, fruity and acidic finish.
4.0On tap @Birre sotto l’albero, Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Pours a cloudy reddish color with a decent white head. Aroma is vinous, grapes, strawberry, hay, vinegar. Flavour is medium sour with a light vinegar note, fruity, quite dry. Medium body, medium to light carbonation. Very good one!
3.9On tap at Birre Sotto l'Albero Macche pub in Rome-Italy. Pours cloudy ruby color, a bit dark. Punk irregular foamy head. Nose: strawberries, a bit acetic, vinegar hint, vinous a bit. Mouth: medium-low carbo, a bit of vinegar, peppery-mineral dry finish. Some mild feel of wild yeast.
4.0Bottle 750ml. [As Lambic Pinaut d’Aunis, Thx Tommy]
Pours reddish/pink with low pink head. Some lacing. Aroma is of cheese, meat, fruits, tannins, grapes. Taste is of sourness, fruits, acidity, grapes. Palate: Light-medium body. Medium carbonation. Very nice balance. Overall: Very nice, crafty grapes. Outstanding.
3.9This one is hard to review because the three versions are so completely different from one another. Almost like they’re not the same beer. In any event, the old one is musty and hose blankety. Z11 has this complexity and grapiness that’s just brilliant. And the new one is some WOW JUICE.
4.3Bottle (750 ml). As "Lambic Pinaut d’Aunis". Bottle from the Missus, aren’t I lucky!?! Also a huge thanks to Cynthia for making this possible! Beautiful clear bright red with a small to medium persistent pinkish head. Aroma is cherry forward with a really nice and well integrated peppery presence that makes it quite different from St-Lamvinus. Nice cheesy notes as well with not much of the usual Cantillon lemony funk. Taste is very winey and quite dusty with loads of cherries, light funk and peppery notes. Sourness level is moderate. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Really tannic. Soft, well balanced and delightful. The peppery presence really add a nice dimension to this beer. Loved it!
4.0Bottle shared by tom10101, many thanks for the rare opportunity Tommy! Pours a bright red with a small white head that leaves low lacing. Nose is of cheese, light rubber, fruits and light vinegar. Taste is moderately acidic with winey flavors. A little less flavourful that I thought it would be but you still get the grapes, oak and lambic so all is well. Citric. Body is light and the vinous feel is very real. Refreshing. Overall a nice and classy fruited lambic, glad I was able to partake!
4.0bottle shared by tom10101, massive thanks bro! pours hazy bright red-pink with a small pinkish cap, slightly reviving. bright red grapes and cherries, kalamatas, dark leather, tannins, purple matter (!), pink pepper, light to medium acidity - seems mostly citric; raspberry vinegar notes, relatively complex flora. moderate carbonation, light body, dry, assertively tart citric-tannic-herbal finish. pinotaged. cherry-oriented. bit rough on the edges but still a very very good fruit lambic.
3.7Aroma of red currants, raspberry, dried cranberry, red apples. Taste is very very mineraly, light barnyard with an autumny ripe apple flavour, earthy and a bit complex, but not that flavorful.
4.3Btl @ cantillon July 15
Looks... Light burgundy, cherry red. Sml White, but slight pink tinged head.
Smells... Earth and spice..white pepper, red vinous grapes and that friendly and familiar cantillon barn.
Tastes..loads of the carignan grape, it’s earthy, fruity and definitely spicy in a white pepper direction, that pepper aspect is noticeable but not overpowering and it stays through a dry oak finish. Delicious.
4.0Pineau d’aunis at the brewery. Deep red colour, very nice aroma of grapes, funk, wood. Taste is heavy sour with long finish. Aftertaste is a bit astringent and very red fruity. Very nice sour
4.6(750ml bottle as Pineau d’Aunis @ Cantillon brewery, July 28 2015) Pours nearly clear deep pink with a whitish head. Aroma of red wine fruitiness, grape, plum and some berry blend. A real peppery, spicy herbal hop character, musty funk, some wood. Flavour has a nice acidic red grape tone, berry seeds, lots of peppery and spicy notes, dried herbs, some tannic barrel notes on the finish. Medium bodied with soft carb, this is complex and a gorgeous druiven lambic. My description doesn’t do it justice, but there’s a wonderful counterpoint between the fruit and the other components that elevates it above the other Cantillon wine grape versions I’ve had. Stunning.
4.0Bottle at MoederLambic brussels . Red tart earthy finish . Grapefruit rind. Vinuous . (Incomprehensible notes). Earthy . (Incomprehensible ).
4.2Bottled as Pineau D’Aunis: Taster:
Aroma has more cellar and earthy tones with of course the typical Cantillon funk and some nice fruits with a light floral flower tone.
Flavour is more vinousy, bitter, fruity, funk, dried fruits, cellar, light herbal/floral tones, some wild yeast and light herbal earthy tone.
Aftertaste is bitter funky, some vinous wild yeast/vinous wort, dried fruity tones...
Low carbo, creamy light sparkling light dry funky mouthfeel, more than just medium bodied.
4.1Bottle as Cantillon as Pineau D’Aunis. Pours Red with a pink head. Not dissimilar to the Caignan in its winey character. Delicious woodiness and a very enjoyable acidity. Grapes and fresh berries. Funky and tartly acidic. Very fresh and vital. Delicious.
4.0Bottle at Cantillon. Almost clear deep ruby liquid with small to medium light pink head. Aroma of lemon, earthy funk, wood, mineral, apple skin and light grapes. Taste is dry and light to medium sour with notes of lemon, grapes and wood. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Really nice, a bit less sour and more funky and woody than Carignan.
4.3Bottle at Cantillon, as Pineau D’Aunis. Pours hazy candy apple red, large creamy white pink head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is sweat socks, cheese, horse blanket. Flavor is dry, quite funky, musty, cheese, feet, grape skins. Medium light body, soft carbonation. Excellent.
4.5Bottle of Pineau D’Aunis at Cantillon. Pours a hazy reddish color with off-white head. Spicy Cabernet like grape aromas, with funk and tartness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a lot of spice, dry, and tart.
4.1Bottle. Very fruity and sweet aroma with strawberry and raspberry and loads of red grape juice. Slightly hazy dark red under a lasting white collar. Slightly sweet grape juice quickly drying out and sour, but not crazy sour. Excellent balance. Light body, medium carbonation, bright and not mouth puckering.
4.3Bottle at Cantillon as Pinaut d’Aunis. Clear light red with small pink head that leaves a nice ring of cute tiny bubbles. Red grapes, old strawberries, raspberry juice. Lots of wood, straw, funk, pee, chicory, bitter grape skins. Taste is medium sour with medium bitter finish. Light to medium bodied with soft sparkly carbonation. Nice stuff, pretty outspoken and not super fruity but it’s well balanced with the lambic. Great.
4.1Bottle (750 ml) @ Cantillon 150515. [ As Pinot D’Aunis ]. Fruity, bretty and vinous with red grapes and cherries, sour, medium body with a watery to oily texture. The finish is dry.
4.6Bottle pour at the source. Pours a dark red with a pink head of foam. The head dissipates quickly. The beer smells like berry and funk. Fruity and wine like taste with a moderate to heavy tartness. The beer is awesome! I would love to have gotten one of these to bring back home.
