2.9 Bottle from Bert’s Better Beers. Hazy orange pour, small white head. Aroma is floral hop and juniper. Medium to thinner palate. Taste is slight sweet caramel malt and juniper/berry hops, although not a ton of bitter bite. Okay, not great.
3.0 Bottle: Pours a hazy orange with a thin white head, hay and some citrus in the aroma, starts and ends lightly bitter, watery texture.
2.7 12 oz bottle - Pours a bit on the brown side. No head, really. Smells a bit like a rotten log. Tastes better, though. It is quite sweet. Lots of sugar in this one. Slight caramel flavor. OK beer. Honestly, it tastes better than I thought it would after the smell.
3.7 an overall good east coast ipa, a fair balance of malts to hops with slight emphasis on the hops in the end. enjoyable.
3.0 Draught at the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse, Brookline, MA. Hazy amber colour with tiny white head. Malt, strong berry hops but not that much bitterness in aroma. Strong malty body and short fruity bitter hoppiness in flavour. Balanced but not that hoppy.
2.5 12oz into a pint on a 95 degree day in Western Mass. A frothy head from the start that mellow after about 32 seconds. Lingers and is just there after those seconds. Smell is of cider, apples, and not much hops that I prefer my ipas to have. Color is a dark orange tan and seasoned rust. Not a typical ipa color. Taste is flat, carbination is low. this one just doesnt grab me. It resembles a red at times. confusing. Hops kind of muttle around, malts are the big standout here. Taste leaves a lingering apple, not so bitter, refreshing yes, but a solid ipa, no.
3.1 Bottle from Ryan & Casey’s. Dark amber body with big head. Nose is hops and spices. Quite strong IPA. Taste is hoppy with citrus and pines. Strong texture. Pretty good.
3.4 Pours a slightly hazy red orange color with a pillowy white head that sticks around for a bit. Smells of citrus, I pick up tangerines, some mineral aromas and some brown sugar and caramel. Taste is malty, mineraly, with a slight citrus hop bite. Some sweet malt is there with more of that brown sugar coming through. Leaves a lingering hop and mineral bite in the dry finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin as is the body. The carbonation is a bit on the low side I think. Not a bad brew, but their are certainly better IPA’s out there. This one while not flawed is simply unremarkable.
2.9 The Dan Journal #448. Tasted 2/26/11. 12oz bottle. Hazy with a orange marmelade, honey, golden hue. Spiraling off-white head. Aromas of grapefruity hops and orange rind. Light to medium bodied and rather hop dominant., albeit mild. Slight grapefruit hops and soggy malts. Just a little light in the body.
3.2 Bottle:   Thats a darker IPA, deep amber, bordering on a burnt caramel, moderate off-white head, spotty lacing.   Soft hoppy nose, a little dank.   Pretty straight forward on the tongue, hoppy, fairly clean, a little citrus peel bite.   Seems like an average/solid example.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   A little resiny, with a good amount of citrus bitterness on the backside that sticks to the sides of your tongue.   Not as bright as others, but its respectable.
3.7 Cask at the Get Real NY Cask Ale Event with Andrew, Streets, Brendan, and Linh. Described as "Dry hopped with Nugget and Chinook" Pours an amber colored body. Aroma is fresh pine hop, flavor is light citrus notes and fresh pine hop.
2.5 From the bottle, pours a hazy brownish red with no much of a head. Aroma is rather beer-y, some caramel malt, some earthy notes. Taste is a bit lackluster. Earthy, dirt bitter, a dry bitter, but no good hoppy bitter. I’d say this was disappointing.
3.6 Out of a growler this IPA is nice amber color. The aroma is flowery and the flavor is mildly bitter. Finishes clean.
3.0 pours a dark amber to copper color, with a white light head. the aroma is malty with citrus and caramel. the flavor is malty, with very light in bitterness caramel, and some earthy flavors, a little light for an ipa in IBU in my opinion
3.4 12 oz bottle. Pours a medium copper light amber with a thin lasting head. Aroma is nutty sweet caramel malt, some herbal hops mixed with some citrusy character- light lemongrass and citrus oils. Flavor is dusty earthy crackery malts, some light carapils, some toffee and medium hoping rate- citrus, earth, herbs, lemon, and slight pine kick. Medium bitter finish and fairly smooth- Pretty average IPA.
2.4 Burnt orange col,or, thin off white head and average lacing. This beer lacks personality - not much of an aroma, taste is hoppy, but very light for an ipa,
3.4 Pours a two finger cream head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Hazy amber color. Nose is light grapefruit hops. Flavor is grapefruit hops but is balanced with some caramel sweetness. $2.05 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.
3.3 Pours a cloudy yellow-orange with a fluffy head. Nice lacing as well. The aroma is a nice citrus and hops, very piney. There is a strong hint of orange. The palate is waterish, not quiet watery with a low carbonation. A nice change from some of the more strongly carbonated IPAs. The beer was dominated by the piney hops taste. Like a typical IPA it doesn’t have a ton of depth beyond that first strong chord. The metallic finish again, is something I typically find in a brew like this. The nose was the best part of this beer. When I tilted the glass it disappointed a bit. Good experience, but I was primed for too much at that point.
1.8 A: snifter. pours a nice clear tawny color, with bright orange hues. nice two finger head that is off-white in color. great retention rate and decent lacing. S: very acidic aroma, some sour notes as well. some tart citrus notes but way in the back of the nose. T: rather unappealing flavors, I get that battery acid flavor. Not nearly enough malts. threes sips and its dumped. too much lactos for me. M: acidic D: couldn’t finish it...hopefully it was just a bad bottle.
2.8 Bottle. Drank in April 09. Poured copper, tan head. Bitter hop aroma, some caramel. Flavor was fruity, caramel, slightly metallic, but overall weak.
3.0 Part of a Beer of the month selection. OK, but nothing that exciting. Serving: Bottle
3.1 pours cloudy amber-orange with a fluffy tan head. dark and cloudy with hop sediment. nose of peach, apricot, nectarine, pine, and butterscotch. flavor is hard to place...heavy butterscotch and creme brulee, heavy dried apricot, pine and citrus. slight oakiness too, i think... finish is long and malty...a little bitterness that mellows out as it dries out. not bad, just not what i was expecting.
2.4 Coppery color. Light tan head. Hoppy, but missing something. The finish is not crisp enough, and the flavor misses certain hop and spice characteristics. The strength and bitterness seem to be on the soft side. It is difficult to be an IPA in today’s microbrew world. It is a standard style for any respectable brewery or pub to tackle. Not being at the top of the heap tends to leave many disappointed.
3.7 I ordered a Ballast Point IPA at Cooper’s Restaurant in Scranton and the waitress brought me this, saying that ran out and "here’s another beer from Maine." I wanted Cali but this was pretty decent with a hop character that seemed part UK style with malt backdrop and some US-like citrus in there (amarillo hops?). A pretty tasty beer and easy to drink. A bit wet for my palate.
4.2 2007: Pours a big, thick and chunky dark orange color. It’s cloudy like cider. Big finger of foamy head. Looks beautiful; perfect actually. Good lace. It’s is the ideal-looking IPA. Has a fantastic-smelling piney bitter hop smell. Also a hint of oaky flavor. Fresh-smelling wet hop aroma. Oily and delicious. Pale malt is a nice accent. The taste is bitter woody hops with a nice balance of a pale malt base. Hops are wet and oily. Really bitter, but with a nice sweet finish. Really really good. Bitterness dulls as it warms. Leaves a film on the tongue. It’s full bodied but also terrifically smooth. It is just a tad bubbly as it warms up. It’s really delicious, but hard to drink all night. It’s bitter, oaky, excellent.
2.9 (Bottle from Downeast Beverage) Pours hazy golden-amber with a finger or so of biscuit head that recedes to a thin slightly globby covering. Aroma of flowers, caramel, light vanilla and hint of egg, perhaps slightly metallic. Mouthfeel fairly smooth but a bit pebbly. Nice, solid rings and light sheets of lacing. Flavor of light flowers and fruit with some caramel and light egg underneath, but really the flavor component is quite weak. Hop presence in the aroma has disappeared in the flavor. Finishes medium-bitter. Strange. Not a good example of an IPA at all.
3.2 From mcox90 via trade. The pour was clear and copper. The head was white with average lacing. The aroma was floral and citrus hops with some bready qualities coming out as it opened up. The flavor was floral hops, light citrus and a bit of a metallic twang. Thin to medium in body, went down easy. Without the aforementioned metallic twang it would have obviously rated higher.
3.3 Light nose, some orange citrus hops as well as light floral notes, and a soft sweet malt base. Pours amber with some sediment and not much foam. Lightly sweet caramel and soft orangey hop flavors. Easy drinking and light, but not standout enough to pique my interest with all the nice IPA’s we get in this neck of the woods.
3.4 Very light IPA that smelled of very little and had crisp, if not underwhelming hops that were lightly citrussy. Decent beer, one that I could see myself drinking in session.
2.7 This is a very normal IPA nothing special but sessionable and pretty enjoyable to boot.
