Cape Ann Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout

Cape Ann Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout

Fisherman’s Pumpkin Stout is a dark stout accentuated by flavors of the Autumn season. Using real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, the Cape Ann Brewing Company took a fresh take at the common fall seasonal. This rich dark stout offers an inviting pumpkin spice aroma that gives way to the delicate essence of real pumpkin.

4.2 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Pumpkin ales and stouts together usually make me very happy and this is no exception. The pour is jet black with a tan head and decent lacing. The aroma is both subtle but forward with its pumpkin spice, dark baked malts, yeast note, and dark fruit. Great marks for how it smells! The body is medium. Oh those dark malts and pumpkin spices really kick in on the taste with this very unique roasty-toasty character. How did I miss this one before now?
3.4 Draft. Brownish maroon color, medium off white head. Aroma of spice, coffee. Taste is roasty coffee, light spice.
2.1 Best pumpkin stout I have had so far. It is awesome if you can find it on tap somewhere.
3.1 At Alewife in Baltimore. Pours a dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of pumpkin. Flavor is slightly roasty pumpkin cinnamon and clove. Very sweet. Too much so. Very sweet. Medium bodied. Decent beer.
3.7 Smells spicy and roasted malt. Like a nice pumpkin spiced Stout Taste is nice, well balanced and flavors really go well together. Like the stout base for the pumpkin better than the traditional lighter base. Enjoyable stout and pumpkin both individually.
3.8 Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Thanks man! Pumpkin malt, light creamy chocolate, cinnamon/nutmeg aroma. Black with a ginormous brown head. Roasty charred malt, coffee, spice, and light pumpkin flavor with a roasty bitter finsh. Medium creamy body, moderate carbonation. A better than average pumpkin beer.
3.4 Draft. Pours opaque dark brown with a fiizzy off white head. Tastes like mild coffee, not very bitter, some caramel, pumpkin, and chocolate. Low/medium body and carbonation. Smells slightly bitter and bready. Not much spice, pretty smooth and mild. Not much pumpkin, more like peanut butter.
2.2 Ar: Dark caramel and nutmeg - earthy and mossy notes - more pumpkin pie spices in the background. Ap: Dark brown, opaque - medium tan head with good retention, leaves a thin cap of lacing and a solid ring of foam. T: Sour metallic flavor - not much else comes through - this seems infected. P: Sharp and thin, very high carbonation - very dry finish. O: This seems to be a bad sample, infected - too bad.
3.7 Pours a dark molasses color with a head of good retention. Aromas spicey of nutmeg, clove upfront, roasted malt behind and hints of cinnamon. Flavors of medium roasted malt, nut, cinnamon, caramel malt, slight lactose, medium sweet with a full mouth feel.
4.0 the spice aromas are there, but not overwhelming. there’s some nutmeg, some all spice. there’s a creamy, smooth quality to the aroma. the color is opaque/black, with a decent light tan head. as it warms the pumpkin pie aroma unfurls. smooth body. a slightly roasty, almost smokey note in the flavor. a slightly cocoa/licorice note in the flavor -- very subtle. the spices peek out from around the corner, not too dominant. a bit of bitterness in the finish. well balanced. clean finish.
3.4 Deep red pour with frothy tan head. Aroma is tantalizing with notes of pumpkin nutmeg and roasted pumpkin seed. Flavor is sweet spicy with roasted notes near the finish. A bit of a weak body and a dry finish. Refreshing beer.
3.3 Tap at Max’s. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy beige head. Aroma is roasted and chocolate malts, cocoa, pumpkin, spices, earthy notes, and light fig. Flavor is dry, roast malt, earthy hop bitterness, and light pumpkin; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.4 pours motor oil black with a quick tan head. nose has solid pumpkin aroma, spicing. taste has flashes of pumpkin, coffee, spices... really molds well. body seems a tad thin.
3.1 Reviewed: 8-24-10 I picked up a single on the advice of another beer geek friend who is also the beer buyer at my local Whole Foods store. I poured this into a pint glass. A: Dark brown, almost black, but with a little bit of little light passing around the edges. Absolutely no head. S: Pumpkin galore - really nice! Like a pumpkin ale, but more malty in nature. T: A bit on the thin side. The dark malts seem kind of watery to me. Also, the pumpkin loses its appeal after the 3rd or 4th sip. M: Here is where the beer is hurt the most. The carbonation is almost non-existent and the beer itself needed more of a "creamy" quality. D: I might have another one at some point, but I could go through the Harvest season without this one if I had to. Overall: Okay, but I was kind of let down by this one. The idea of a pumpkin stout sounds good on paper, but this is definitely not the ideal realization of that attempt.
3.3 Pours a dark black color with a white soapy head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and pumpkin spice. Light sweet caramel taste with notes of vanilla. Some pumpkin spice underneath. Not great.
3.1 Draught. This was way over spiced and pumpkin infused for my taste. It was like a mouthful of pumpkin pie spices, canned pumpkin, and dry stout.
3.3 Dark walnut brown with a thick mocha head. Aroma of chocolate. Flavor of chocolate and roast and possibly a little spice. I didn’t really taste much pumpkin, but not bad.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a deep brown to black with a thin beige head. Smells of pumpkin puree straight from the can, a touch of roast and cocoa. Medium bodied, roast and cocoa. A little bit astringent, a bit of roast. Finishes with a bit of burnt pumpkin. Nice roast and a bit of yeast.
3.7 Bottle from Half Time. Pours very dark ruddy brown with a head so transient I didn’t really note it. Mixed aromas of pie spice and coffee. Full bodied. Moderate carb. Flavor is very smooth dark burnt malt with some coffee and pie spice. Hints of veg/squash. No single flavor is overpowering, but I’m getting: pie spice, coffee, burnt malt, chocolate, veg. Very well done.
3.4 Bottle, miniscule nose. Dark dark brown with a short-lived light brown head. Mild cocoa and loose porter/stout flavor, nothing in the way of roast or tar/ashen flavors. Gently crisp medium body does have a nice inky/malty texture. Enjoyable enough as a well-made mild stout [alcohol is utterly hidden!], but no sign of pumpkin or pumpkin pie spices.
3.2 Very dark appearance, thin white head. Pumpkin and related spices at first and some coffee on the second whiff. Taste is of pumpkin, coffee and something a little "off" -- like paper. This is almost exactly like a Brewer’s Best beer I made.. pumpkin spice porter. Not bad.
3.6 No bottling information. A: Pitch black body with a thin tan head with poor retention, looks great while the head is there though. S:The aroma is prominently pumpkin and spices, nutmeg and cloves come to mind, but this actually smells like pumpkin, not just the spices. There’s a light chocolate in the back with vanilla, this smells pretty good. T: The base of this seems a bit plain, light roasted malts and that’s about it, there’s light nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and pumpkin as well. The flavors are blended well though. M: Medium body with medium carbonation. O: This is a pretty interesting beer that’s done well, I wasn’t expecting much but this is how I feel the style should taste.
3.4 Aroma is pumpkins, spices and a hint of roasted malts. The flavor is pumpkins, spices, fruit, a hint of roasted malts and some acidity in the finish.
3.2 On cask at barcade, poured out of a pumpkin. Interesting gimmick, but the beer is meh.
2.9 a slight sweet malty aroma rather light..brown red at the edges otherwise dark brown/black with a tan fizzy sodalike head..tastes mostly like a dry stout with a hint only of pumpkin and spice nothing overpowering or outstanding either..rather light bodied for a stout even a bit watery reminds me more of a black lager..overall good idea but disappointing execution, might try the imperial for a little more oomph
3.4 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head. Nose is light pumpkin with some dark roasty dry notes, light earthy hops. Palate is medium with a nice tingle and slick oily finish. Flavors of light pumpkin with the earthy, resiny hop notes, some vinous notes, and a palate coating.
3.7 Pours a midnight chestnut color, with a good 3 fingers of linen, off-white head. The nose is of espresso-like roasted barley, with light hints of autumnal spices. The taste starts with creamy coffee, having hints of pumpkin and very light spices (cinnamon, nutmeg). The finish is bitter, and roasty, but not very spicy. The focus seems to be based around the stout being highlighted by pumpkin flavors, rather than pumpkin being the ringleader. The body is medium, with a medium to long, black-coffee finish.
3.4 12oz bottle. Looks dark. Aroma of roasted malts, some spice, pumpkin, and floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A decent beer.
3.6 Bottle. Deep black. sweet syrupy taste. smells of maple and currant. great palate and easy drinking. awesome pumpkin stout in all elements
3.8 Black french roast coffee bitterness. Nice malt-roasted grain balance, good length. Delicious.
