3.3 Inviting malty aroma with a little sting underneath it. Clear, intense gold; OK label and cap; standard US longneck. Sweetish, pretty smooth but with a slight bocky-metallic break, woody-straw tones towards the finish. Good carbo, medium body. Not bad, and one of my least favorite styles, but still a little disappointing from Capital. New Leaf Market.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Hazy, dark orange color with no head. The aroma is toffee, oak, and syrup. Very sweet flavor, with faint hop bitterness in the finish. Heavy body, sticky, grainy, with some fine carbonation. Overall, this is a sticky, sweet, desert-like beer. Unabashedly malty.
3.5 Serving: 12 oz. bottle via trade with madbeerbaron. It pours a clear copper color with a small and short lived white head. The nose smells faintly of fresh malt and dough. The flavor highlights the malt with a little caramel and a very slight toasted note. Medium to full bodied, it’s a bit flabby on the tongue. Still, it’s a decent dopple.
2.5 Bottle: Labeled as 7.8% Pours murky orange with a minimal off-white head. Slightly fruity aroma, caramel. Flavour is tangy caramel malt, slightly overripe fruit... Not too bad, but rather flat-bodied.
2.6 Bottle. Lemon, iced tea malt, and light alcohol aroma. Cloudy light amber with a small off-white head. Sweet fruity lemon, grainy/black tea malt flavor with a little alcohol bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation.
2.7 Bottle. Cardboard and lemon malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Corn syrup, paper and barley malt flavor. Okay but apparently an old bottle.
3.9 Pours a pale amber color with a thin and fast diminishing head. Some scents of sweet caramel malts, grainy wheat and a little lemon citrus. Packs a bold taste for a lighter colored beer. A very complex mix of malts and grains that leave a very dry taste in your mouth. Interesting to say the least.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a golden straw color with not much aroma. Flavor is sweet with a nice mouthfeel. Not bad.
3.1 Bottle at friend’s party. Pours an orange color with a white head. Nose is sweet malt, some lager yeast, and a bit of booze. Flavor follows the nose with sweet malt, lager yeast, booze, and caramel. Medium in body and nice overall.
3.5 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. 2011 vintage. Pours a clear, very very dark gold with about a finger of white head. Aroma is quite sweet. Lots of caramel and toffee. Taste is heavily sweet and very light bitter. Caramel and toffee with just a hint of herbal hops. Medium bodied with a thick, sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. Surprisingly, time has been very good to this beer. I’ll have to go back and see if there are any more of these 2011s left.
3.4 Aroma is pale malts and mild fruit undertones. The flavor is mildly sweet malts, caramel and mildly tart finish.
3.1 Pour on tap, clear orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of sweet fruits, vanilla, honey, caramel, toffee, touch of yeast, hints of sweet candi sugar as well. Taste is a mix of biscuit, bread, yeast, touch of candi sugar, honey, vanilla, some sweet fruits, finishing fairly sweet, slight boozy. Decent but nothing special.
3.9 Got lucky and had several 6ers of this one. It is without question much better when the weather is cold, than now when its hot. But I have enjoyed this beer very much. Lite tan blond appearance. Malty nose with some hints of alcohol. Great palate. The balance between the malt and hops are perfect. Malty flavors, not cloying in anyway. Nice clean finish. This brewery makes good German beers.
3.4 355ml bottle pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger white head that settles quickly and leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is pale malts with some mild hops and yeast. Taste is malty sweet with some yeast and a light hoppy bitterness. Alcohol is present in this medium bodied and highly carbonted brew. A pleasing mouthfeel is present and this beer is recommended for a good tasting experience.
3.6 4/18/12. 12oz bottle. Orange pour with particulates under a small khaki head. Sweet, malty aroma that actually does smell like a doppelbock - sweet, caramel, fruity, etc. Sweet, fruity flavor as well with caramel and light sugars. Not bad!
3.4 Transparent golden amber, had about an inch of white head that receded pretty fast. Pretty visible carbonation. Has a nice aroma of malt, light hop and maybe some green apple? Taste is a little tart, green apple, also has some malty notes In the body and some hops in the finish. Also a bit of yeast. Feel is pretty smooth with a medium body and a slight hoppy finish. Overall not to bad I love a good dopplebock, I’ve never seen a blonde one before so I was happy to try it.
3.5 Draft at Capital Tap Haus. Pours pretty clear dark gold with orange tint. Small, soapy white head. Nose is biscuity, a bit of clove and citrus. Taste follows suit: bits of rind, spicy finish. Way drinkable for the ABV.
3.5 Pours a slightly hazy amber with an off-white head that disappears and leaves some lacing. The aroma is mainly honey and cloves with a bit of yeast. The cloves are stronger in the taste along with some malt and yeast and a sweet aftertaste.
3.1 Pours amber with a thin off white head. Caramel, toffee, and loads of sweet malt. Only okay.
3.0 bright golden color in the glass. grainy aroma with some hints of sweetness, caramel and yeast. sweet malt, banana, and a faint hint of clove are what I got out if the flavor. subtle alcohol taste for an 8%’er.
4.3 bottle - pours almost clear amber with nice tan head along with some lacing. Nose is caramel malts, yeast, alcohol and candy. Aroma is nutty, alcohol, old-timer fruit and sheer pleasure. Sweet all around. Quite possibly my favorite new beer since Malheur 12. I will be having this one again and will share it.
4.1 Translucent copper with a wisp of beige head. Medium-full body with medium carbonation. Aroma: lots of aromatic malts. Taste: rich malt, and warm alcohol notes. A good, clean doppelbock. Not heavy or cloying.
3.1 Bottle. Dark gold color. Weak head. Slightly fruity with hints of grass aroma. Taste is just slightly sweet with strong malt and some hop. Tasty.
3.1 12 ounce bottle that pours a clear golden color with aromas of toffee, sweet malts, honey and hay. Flavors are a dry version of the aroma with some butterscotch coming through.
3.3 Slightly hazy medium golden, long lasting head and lace. Taste is big and filling (maybe too much?) sweet caramel malt with fruity overtones. Bittering is minimal, through mild hops. My bottles lacked effervescence, accenting the heavy sweetness. Decent brew, but not deserving of more than 3.3.
3.3 this beer is a sipper. strong aroma and a high alcohol taste makes this a worthy drinker. malts are rich and caramel with some mild banana. hits you hard at the end
2.4 its good for what it is, im just not into the sweetness of doppelbocks. heavy on the dark candied sugar and malty profile.
4.4 Perhaps this is inducement from my eyes, causing my mouth to imagine things, but I really got a yellow cake element, some distinct spiciness and fruit characteristic, really amazing stuff and a beer that I totally loved. Was actually quite surprised by the mediocre reviews here.
2.6 The aroma has what seems to be rubbing alcohol added to adjunct malt and no hops. The appearance is light amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is typical of the style. Overall an average beer.
3.6 Doppelbock are wonderful, and this is amongst the finest I’ve had! Cheers!
