Capital Kloster Weizen

Capital Kloster Weizen

A unique beer, Kloster Weizen is a true Bavarian style Weizen beer. Intentionally cloudy (hefe weizen) in appearance, this beer has a "spicy" flavor and is very refreshing. It is popular to add a slice of lemon to a glass of this beer.

3.2 Date: 03/15/2008 Mode: bottle Source: Tasting, Cellar Party Appearance: hazy burnt orange, fine off white head, bits of lace, Aroma: big sweet banana aroma with light spicyness, Body: big body, Flavor: sweet malt flavor, lots of banana sweetness, light balancing spicyness, Aroma: 6/10; Appearance: 7/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 7/10; Overall: 12/20 Rating: 3.2/5.0 Drinkability: 7/10 Score: **/4
3.7 Pours slightly cloudy and straw-colored with a thin white head. Aroma consists of yeast, banana, and spice. Up to this point, it’s much like other hefeweizens. It’s in the taste where it is different. The palate is a bit heavier than most hefeweizens and slightly oily. Malty and sweet describes the flavor with touches of banana, honey, and spice. Finishes clean. A great beer that is unfortunately retired.
3.1 Appearance: Pours a lightly hazy, coppery body with a tiny white head. Smell: Mild aroma of wheat, yeast, maybe a touch of citrus. So light! Taste: Flavor of malted wheat with a slight tanginess. Mildly sweet hint of honey. Banana, lemon, and spice present, but it’s all at rather muted levels. Finishes dry with some yeast lingering into the aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation. Soft mouthfeel. Drinkability: I could use a bit more carbonation, but overall it’s a pleasant hefe-lite weizen.
3.1 Pours a copper color with a white head. Aroma is bubblegum, clove, and some honey. Flavor is wheat, bubblegum, clove, honey, and a sweet fruity finish.
3.4 Little cloudy gold with big frothy head. Nose of grain and banana. Flavor is much the same with a little sour touch. Medium body and a crisp finish.
3.9 According to the Capital website, this is a retired beer. I am bummed. this is one of the few American-made Hefeweizen that taste like the German equivilent. This beer has a very smooth flavor with banana, clove, and a special guest peach flavors. I wish I could get more of this.
3.3 In bottle during the morning of Dark Lord Day ’07. A well done hefe, but nothing outstanding. I guess I just compare everything to Schneider, and none are quite that smooth and flavorful. But a well done beer by our friends up north.
3.5 Bottle from trade with shigadeyo. Pours a hazy amber hue with an large frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Good wheat and banana aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium well balanced spicy flavor with a good sweet finish of moderate duration. Good soft drinkable beer.
3.3 Brought back a bottle from Madison visit. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small near white head. Aroma a bit sour wheat malt. Taste of wheat malt, bananas, and citrus. Dry spicy aftertaste. A more lively wheat beer.
2.8 Cloudy yellow pour with a little white head. Sour notes on the nose. Typical nice weat body but a metallic aftertaste.
3.7 Date: 3/31/2007 Serving: 12 oz bottles brought by Jason. Glad you could visit, my friend! Event: Rye Pale Ale (10 gallons) brew out. Location: shigadeyo’s house. Tasting Notes Aroma: Mostly wheat with a little bit of sweet wheat malt. Appearance: Hazy gold pour with a medium-sized head that is foamy white to off-white in color. Flavor: Caramel malts, banana, and smoke. Reminds me quite a bit of the New Glarus Copper Kettle Weiss, but not quite as complex and rich. Palate: Medium body (a bit more thin than the New Glarus Copper Kettle Weiss. Overall: Another great wheat beer from another great Wisconsin brewery!
3.2 Deep golden with a decent size white head. Aroma of banana, clove and citrus. Wheat flavor quickly followed by a spicey finish. Refreshing.
3.6 Cloudy appearance with strong lemon aroma and flavor. This was one of my first hefeweizens and I really liked it.
3.7 Bottle. Strong, sweet, classic Hefeweizen aroma with clove and cinnamon notes. Clear gold color. Less haziness and not as much head as I would have expected. Very strong, tart, lemony, classic Hefeweizen flavor. The flavor is far from unique but still quite delicious. The power of the flavor relative to the standard of the style is what sets this beer apart. Smooth, crisp, and fizzy to the palate; extremely drinkable. This is one of the better beers from an excellent, underrated brewery. It is a very good example of the Hefeweizen style.
2.8 From a 12 oz. twist off bottle with a freshness date on the shoulder of bottle. Poured a cloudy, maybe more hazy, orangey golden with a large foamy white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, very minimal amount of sticking. Hefe weizen aromas, bananas, lemon fruity, bready, a subtle clove, and a light spiciness. I thought the carbonation was a bit too high and malty crisp, thin for me, medium bodied mouthfeel. Pleasant, but average tasting, especially for a Capital brew, banana and clove, a light lemon, stale breadiness, a soft pepper spiciness and a yeasty, dry stale bread finish. Not bad, but not one of favorites from Capital, drinkable, but I stop at two.
2.9 Sour lemon dominates with hint of banana and peppery coriander spice. Interesting but not my thing. Try it cold on a hot day.
2.6 Thanks to FlyingBison for coming through on this. Like an American pale wheat that has a sourness, only more aggressive wheat and carbonation. This is not a smooth hefeweizen
3.8 Apricot colored pour with a creamy, yet shortlived, head. The nose is quite airy - yeasty and esthery. Sugary bananas, bubblegum, peaches and vanilla cake make up the spritzy aroma. Strawberries, caramel and honey-glazed malts make up much of the body. Nicely sticky and full. The carbonation is actually quite soft on the tongue until the finish, when the yeast dries nicely - giving a sweet, champagne-like fruity finish.
3.5 Golden yellow hazy body, white head. Aroma is strong with sweet malt — banana, dough and hints of earth and clove. The taste is sweet evoking flavors of banana with a hint of honey-lemon. Moderate carbonation and somewhat sticky mouthfeel. A moderate finish of tart lemon. I enjoyed this quite a bit especially on this hot, humid summer day.
3.4 12oz bottle acquired in trade with DavidP (thanks!). Poured a medium and slightly hazy golden color with a smaller sized white head. Aromas of bananas, cloves and some citrus. Tastes of wheat, bananas, spices and citrus. Thinner body that is typical of this style.
3.6 Pours with the classic long lasting tall white head, over a hazy medium yellow body. Banana and fresh bready yeast aroma. Full bodied smooth delivery that is well balanced sweet malt at the start and tangy acidic wheat in the finish. Not to shabby.
3.5 12 oz bottle. Foggy apricot yellow pours a big head diminishing quickly to some white scum. Nice waft of banana taffy and lemon. Taste like nose with lingering sour lemon. Long finish with flour. Medium body but carb seems a bit muddy. Very tasty but not quite the meal a hefe should be.
3.7 Great brew for being made in the states! Have wanted this one for a while, thanks Duane! Banana, clove, and peppery! Very nice aftertaste! Citrus too. What a great Hefe, a reminder of the German brews I miss so much. Great beer!
3.8 Thanks to beerdrenched for picking this up for me. Pours slightly hazy golden with a nice sized white head. Aroma has lots of banana and cloves. Medium bodied with light carbonation that resides between soft and fizzy. Taste starts with rich wheat malt with natural tasting sweetness, very smooth tasting. Then the banana flavoring starts coming through which its own richness and then it just stays around. Bits of clove are in here & touches of huskiness on the finish. Excellent Hefe.
3.3 12 oz bottle from ClarkVV. Pours a flat golden color with no head. (possibly due to this not being the freshest batch according to clark) Nose is banana and light peppery coriander spice. Palate is thin and smooth. Flavors of coriander and pepper with shades of banana in the backround. A nice crisp finish.
3.2 This pours a hazy gold color with a fizzy head somewhat small for the style. The aroma is wheat, banana, and clove with a twist of lemon. The lemon persists a bit too strongly in the flavor making for a tart, nearly sour finish. T-Birds, Plainfield, IL
3.0 Pours a hazy gold color with little head.. Aroma of bananas, clove, and a bit of spice, almost faintly peppary, Finish is a bit abrasive, somewhat tart which is a shame as the rest makes for a pretty damn good hefeweizen.
3.1 Golden pour with some steady carbonation. Not surprisingly, the aroma was full of banana peel and had a hint of lemon. Maybe it was the yellow label fooling me. Nah! Definite banana notes in there. The medium body had some bready texture, but the finish was merely yeasty and not terribly interesting. Probably wouldn’t try this again, though, it might be worth another shot this summer with a change of environment.
3.3 Cloudy dark gold light copper. Smooth and creamy palate. Aroma is wheaty and slightly fruity. Flavor is lemony sour and a little hoppy. Not the best german hefe I’ve ever had.
3.6 Bottled. Poured surprisingly clear with only wisps of white head. Nose was full, and consisted of bananas and bubblegum... with some wheat and other light fruits. Really enjoyed the flavors... lemony wheat, bananas, and lighter berries. Tingly and crisp mouthfeel.. lighter-bodied. Fruits and hay on the refreshing finish. Good stuff!
