Captain Lawrence Flaming Fury

Captain Lawrence Flaming Fury

American Sour Ale. This was a fun one to make. We took some of our barrel aged sour golden ale and added a bunch of fresh picked local peaches and let the barrels ripen. The flavors are earthy, fruity and of course...SOUR. Enjoy this one on a hot summer day with a ripe juicy peach in hand. From the Captain’s cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy!

4.2 Bottle from Goshen Bev. Sour peach, white wine, grassy aroma. Medium-full body. Lots of sour. Dank and fresh peaches. Alcohol doesn’t hit at all. It’s too sour. Very fruity but mellowed and not sweet or too sweet. Nice. Highly sour. Well done.
3.7 Bottle shared with Paul and Max (thanks MD!) Pours a light golden body with thin ring of lace. Nose is light acetone and a full array of varying fruits - green apple, white grape and additional stone fruits. Mouthfeel is tart, slightly acetic with notes of vinegar, green apple, peach, grape, green apples and a nutty, oaky character.
3.8 Bottled at Ottawa gathering. Hazy golden, small head. Tart peachy nose. Lemon, cobwebs and mirabelles. Light-medium bodied with crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Winegums, citric acid. Lightly bitter finish.
4.0 A hazed golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, nice tart lemon malt with light fruity esters, light Brett, light lactic notes, light horse blanket, peaches, nice and complex. In mouth, a nice intense tart lemon with lactic acid, peaches, light mineral notes, light buttery notes, grapeskin notes, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. Tasted with GRM and Omhper, March 2017.
4.2 330 cL cc bottle from Capone’s/Whole Foods PM. Pours turbid straw with off-white head. Nose is tart citrus fruit, yeasty funk, peach, lemon. Tastes smooth, amazingly complex, with notes of tart fruit, honeydew melon, peach, lemon, yeasty funk, and a well balanced finish. Outstanding!

3.7 Last rate of 2016. Pours out a slightly cloudy darker orangy color with a small white head. Aroma is south and light tart fresh peach, some grainy notes, barrel and some light musty notes. Taste is solid, nice fresh peach, decent level of sourness, light tart notes, peach juice, some oak barrel. Nice sour.
4.0 375ml c&c bottle from Spirits Jackson. Poured a slightly hazed bright yellow gold with a smaller foamy white head. Flavor of sour patch kids, peach, fruity, very sour but no acidity. Smoother for a sour, full mouthfeel and average carbonation but sadly the aftertaste is only average where I wish this would linger. Aroma is basically sour fruits, peach, apricot, dry toast and a touch of wood.
3.8 Draft at Bru Craft. Hazy gold pour with a modest soft white head. Scope of lace. Lots of oak. Peach. Nectarine. Apricot. Meyer lemon. Honeycomb. Apple. Feels both bright and subdued. Modestly tart. Faint hints of cucumber and vanilla. The wood tannins dry the finish.
3.3 A little peach and lots of sour citrus. Not exactly balanced though - seems overrated. Golden pour with ok lacing. Very acidic finish. Tap at Meridian Pint.
4.2 Tap.mostly clear peach meat gold. Sweet peach, slight citrus candy, very light funk in the aroma. Flavor is really well balanced, slightly funky, but in a nice peachy funky fruit way, little bit of leather, some hay, peachy finish. Light body with tingly carbonation.
3.4 On tap at Capone’s. Very decent sour, competent in the marketplace of sours. Drinkable if not overpriced.

3.2 Pours a hazy golden with a small white head that leaves spotty lacing. Nose is of vinegar, oak and just generally acetic. Taste is of vinegar, acetone, light fruits (peaches). Moderate body and carbonation with surely a vinous mouthfeel, just like red wine vinegar is vinous I guess. Meh, another vinegary mess ’merican sour.
3.3 pours hazy light golden with a small white cap offering some retention and lacing. buttery barrels, acetone and acetic acid, tart peaches, lots of spices, floral and spicy honey, minerals. moderate carbonation, light body, dry and tingling tart citrusy finish. predominantly acetic with acetone traces but still a nice fruity underlying brew.
3.3 Bottle (375 ml) shared at tasting. Thanks to czar for sharing. Hazy orangey with a small white head, moderate retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma of tropical fruits, acetic fruitiness, mild acetone and herbal notes. Taste is a bit sweet, moderate acetic presence, mild buttery notes. Medium body. Lively carbonation. Oaky finish. Not the most complex sour and slightly off. A tad too acetic for my liking.

3.7 Poured from an old bottle, batch 1 likely. Aroma is moderately fruity with a medium light stone fruit note. Some light tropical fruit with light oak. Medium acidity with some light citrus notes. Pours a hazy, pale gold with a small, thin white head that recedes to the edges where it lingers for a bit. No lacing and small legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with some medium light peach and stone fruit notes. Light tropical fruit with medium light citrus. Light oak with low bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. Good fruit notes that have lasted surprisingly well considering the age. Acidity is a bit sharp, but not too over the top.
