Captain Lawrence Freshchester Pale Ale

Captain Lawrence Freshchester Pale Ale

One of the first beers I brewed after moving out to California to begin my brewing education was a Pale Ale. This version is a true testament to the influences the Wild West had on my early brewing. My Pale
Ale is loaded with US-grown Cascade, Crystal, and Columbus hops, so be sure to take a good sniff to enjoy their robust aromas before taking your first sip.
Sensory Profile: An aromatic beer with notes of citrus, pine, a noticeable bitterness, and a touch of malty backbone to help balance it out.

Food Pairing: Foods with a spicy kick are a great match, as the bitterness of the hops will help to cool the palate before your next bite. Mexican food and pizza are natural matches.

3.8 Nice, pine, citrus,, medium strong but not light. Overall good experience
3.2 Bottle. Golden, average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish aroma, some caramel and light tropicalfruitiness and light - some citrus hoppyness. Body is medium, malty lightly sweetish flavor, light - some caramel and light tropical fruitiness and light - some citrus hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light - some caramel and light tropical fruitiness , light - some citrus hoppyness. Decently hopped PA with nice hoppy and fruity aroma. Finish could use more fruitiness and less caramel.
3.6 Smell of hops, grapefruit. Amber colour, high off-white head. Aroma of honey, citrus, overripe fruit. Bitter and sweet. Medium carbon, slightly oily texture.
3.7 Bottle Gold with a white head. Citrus hop aroma. The flavor is well balanced, simple and well done. Lots of hop bitterness and a good unobtrusive malt base that rounds this out nicely. No fads here, just a good Pale Ale.
3.0 355 ml bottle. Pours clear copper color with a large white head. Malty and grainy aroma, faint hops, caramel, some cardboard notes. Flavor is bitter malty, cardboard-y, grainy, no noticeable fruitiness here. Feels old and harsh. 4323
3.1 Bottle 355ml at home. From Alko web shop. BBE 2021-03-20. Pours clear golden orange with off white head. Flavor has malts, pine, grapefruit, floral hops, Medium body, average carbonation, bitter finish.
3.1 355ml bottle from Alko. Poured golden in color, white head. Aroma of malts and British hops, toffee, caramel sweetness and some resiny hops in the bitter finish. Probably not very fresh. Fair enough, but not what I expected as I was promised US hops.
3.3 An orange beer, a head is big and blond. Aroma has fruitness of grapefruit, some wood and flowers. Taste has low fruitness, pine, wood, quite strong bitterness. Medium bodied. Good beer.
3.7 Copper coloured with medium large head and medium body. Bitter, fruity, nutty. Not bad at all.
3.5 0,355l bottle from Prisma Imatra. A bit hazy amber beer with medium- white head. Aroma has fruits and hops with pine and biscuits. Flavor has pine and some hops. Good.
3.6 35,5 cl bottle @ home. Batch #1479, BBE 20.03.2021 Aroma has tropical fruits, peaches, resiny malt. Flavour has resin, tropical fruits, some menthol and graprefruit in the finish. Also some mellow herbal hops. Solid APA.
3.6 On tap at the JFK at the start of the honeymoon in Portugal. 20oz pour which only partially makes yup for the ridiculous $12 price tag. Deeper golden copper color with decent, quick to disappear head. Nose is floral and pine with some cereal qualities. Taste is pretty well balanced. Actually reminds me of a Sierra Nevada in a way. Pretty decent bitterness but that dissipates at the finish. Like the malt bill featured against the backdrop of hops. Solid but overpriced at least at this locale.
3.5 This is a backlog rating from 2009 from a bottle shared with Tmoney99, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are pale biscuity malts, citrus, light resin, good.
3.2 Draught. The beer has got a golden color with a steady head and medium body. Aroma of hops and mild fruits. Taste of hops, pine, herbs, spruce and exotic fruits. Hoppy finish.
3.6 Draft at Rue 57 at 57th and 6 Ave in NYC. The ale poured a clear dark amber with an off white head and lacing. Citrusy aroma also with pale malts on the nose. The ale is balanced with hop bitterness in the upper mouth and pale malts in the taste. The ale has a medium body with average carbonation. Easy drinking ale with lingering hop bitterness.
3.5 Bottle at Marriott Times Square. Hazy amber body with a medium white head. Hops, citrus, pine, resin.
3.2 Draft at Moriartys. Hazy amber. Off-white foam. Malty APA with fruity herbal hop flavors. Mango. Orange. Wheatgrass. Juicy but watery. Ironically feels a bit damp and stale.
2.4 Ah to be young again. This beer hits the spot well enough I suppose, classic pale ale. A little sweet maybe? Whatever, still better than the well tequila / kamikaze shooters the 20-something’s next to me are drinking. God help them tomorrow morning. At least there is good music in this east village bar. The trust fund Indonesian woman next to me just let me try her mojito. Tastes like gasoline. Cheers!
3.6 7 - 4 - 7 - 4 - 14 Cloudy amber body with and off-white head that sticks to the glass. Hoppy, malty and strong aroma of dark caramel, overripe tropical fruits, orange marmalade, and brown and burnt sugar in the back. Strong flavour of dark caramel, grain, overripe generic fruits, and orange marmalade, with tropical fruits, red berries, and brown and burnt sugar in the back. Light to moderate sweet taste with a long-lasting moderate bitter finish. Medium body, dry texture, moderate carbonation. A nice and typical malty US pale ale (at least typical for a US pale ale bought in Norway, i.e. quite old and therefore with reduced hop influence). [35.5 cl bottle, enjoyed 1 month before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Ullevål, Oslo]
3.6 From tap. A hazy golden coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, fruit, hops, citrus, grapefruit and with a bitter finish.
3.6 Dark golden with a white head - Good hop aroma that has fruity tones - Good malt body with some caramel hints with hops that has fruity flavour and good bitterness - The hop bitterness goes into a dry fruity finish - This was good
3.6 Draft @ JFK, for a whopping $12 (excl. tax) for 20 oz.... Clear amber color. Frothy, sticky off white head with good lacing. Aroma's: malty, caramel, a bit (sweet) red fruit. Flavor is moderate bitter with light caramel malty sweetness. Under medium bodied. Long finish, reasonably bitter, slightly dry and earthy.
4.0 Very drinkable. Malty for a pale ale.
3.0 Bottle 33 cl. Golden, cloudy with a medium white head. Fresh fruit aroma and some malt and sitrus. Medium bitter taste with a mild hoppy end.
3.4 Bottle 33cl. Small white head. Hazy peach color. Aroma is hops, nettles, roses, fruits. Taste is bitter.
2.6 29.03.2017, 12 oz bottle @ home: Big fizzy-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry grassy, leafs, light malts, hay, flowers, lawn, hops, pine needles, paper, moss. Taste is slightly dry mineraly, weeds, hay, moss, old leafs, flowers, light malts, bark, soil, paper, grass, old hops. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. Kind of boring.
3.5 355ml bottle (5.5%) at home on 4 Mar 2017, from Good Spirits Company, West Nile Street, Glasgow, floral, citrus hop aroma, amber brown with a thin cream head, orange, toffee, hoppy, oily, bitter citrus finish.
3.4 Draft Third of a Pint at GBBF 2010 (Day 4), Earl’s Court, London Aug 2010 - Hazy but OK. Orangey Amber in colour. Very Hoppy; piney hops. Fruity; citrus grapefruit. Malty; malty backbone, caramel. Nice hop/fruit/malt balance. Dry bitter hop finish. Decent. (2010-08)
3.5 Bottle from whole foods. Perfectly pleasant pale ale. Tastes a bit like Sierra Nevada but tastes slightly fresher despite this bottle being close to the end of its life
3.3 Bottle at home, 21/01/17. Golden amber with a well appointed cream cap. Nose is caramel malt, biscuit, bitter orange, old skool vibes, grassy hop linger. Taste comprises orange peel, caramel malt, light pine, faint spice, biscuit crumble. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying closed peppered with grassy hop bitterness. Ok journeyman kind of an APA.
