Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold

Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold

Don't let the golden color fool you - this isn't your father's lite beer!
Brewed with imported German malts and US-grown hops, this beer is a full-flavored introduction to craft-brewed beer. We add the hops late in the boil, allowing you to enjoy the flavor and aroma of the hops without an aggressive bitterness.
Sensory Profile: Aromas of orange, spice, and green grass. Clean malt-dominated flavor, with a subdued bitterness playing in the background of the aromas of this beer.

Food Pairing: A great match with fish and chicken, both sautéed and grilled, especially with citrus and herbs preparations. Shellfish steamed in Liquid Gold is a match made in beer heaven.

3.5 On bottle from Vinmonopolet in Norway, on order. Hazy golden color, good foam. Medium aroma intensity; fruity, floral, light honey and some yeast influence . Medium body & complexity . Some light sweetness, some bitterness- balances very well. Enjoyable
2.6 12.03.2017, 12 oz bottle @ home: Nice creamy mediumlasting head, slightly hazy. Aroma is slightly dry floral, weeds, hay, flowers, yeast, minerals, broth, grass, dough, spices, banana. Taste is slightly sour-ish dry floral, weeds, yeast, minerals, dough, light malts, flowers, hay, paper, bark, alcohol, spices. Medium bitterness, slightly watery and harsh mineraly mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.
3.3 12 oz bottle with a July 2016 poured into a lager glass in Sept. 2016. Look: pours light golden in color with a puffy, thick, white head. Very good retention. Sticky, soapy lace covers about 20% of the glass. Aroma: Hop (Noble?) dominated. Some bready, fruity and floral aromas, A touvh of slightly funky aroma. Flavor: Fruity sweetness balanced by peppery and herbal hops. Mild bitterness. Feel: The body is medium-light with lively, crisp medium carbonation. Overall: a solid but earthy/herbal Belgian pale ale.
3.4 Light yeast aroma. Clove like. Some citrus. Pours golden with a big head. Taste is a bit sweet, lots of spice flavor and a bit of citrus. Low carb body but light.
3.5 On tap @ Mudville 9. As the name suggests this is a golden colored one, soft blurry and a tiny quickly islandy shattered off-white head on the top. Smells nice. Kinda sweetish and mild yeasty. There’s some sweet tones of fruits without me being able to name them. The same goes for the taste really. It’s really soft on the bubbles and it has a mild oily texture in the mouth. Sweetish mild yeasty. There’s apricots and strawberries. Funky? Yeah, I do believe it is. Like it. 10.06.2015
4.6 Nice local beer. The taste of hops stays for awhile. No foam. Nice weat color. I recommend!
4.0 This is qn excellent hoppy Belgian. It’s just a touch sweet with a great melding of floral hops and fruity yeast. It’s fairly full bodied but still drinkable with a crisp pop of bitterness in the finish. This is one you could drink all day.
3.1 Draft at The Irish Pol. Mostly clear gold pour with a slim tight white top. Belgium malts with American hops. Lots of lace. Catty aroma. Yeasty. Light amber fruit. Simply not working for me. UPDATE: Couple months later again at the Irish Pol. Rated poorly (2.7) before, bumping it up a bit because that malt feels fuller now and the body is creamy. The catty aroma has (mostly) disappeared. Better but still not a favorite for me. Could be a bad keg.
4.0 Motherfuckers this is a well done beer. Belgiany tasting but not really from Belgium. Strong but not too alcoholy.
3.7 Clear , golden color. One-finger , white head . Malt , Belgian yeasts, hint of spices and a hoppy citrus note in aroma . Nice blend of Belgian yeasts and American hops in taste . Moderate malty sweetness and semidry , hoppy finish .
3.4 12 oz. Bottle. Clear gold color with a medium white head. Aroma has some subtle fruits and mild yeasty spice/ black pepper. Flavor is pretty well balanced yeast spice and some soft grain and light bread, touch of pepper in the finish. Texture is dry and grainy. Proper carbonation levels giving a mild smoothness over the palate. Overall right to the style, it is what it should be.
3.4 Single bottle. Pours out a slightly hazy medium golden color. Classic belgian yeast dominates the aroma and flavors. Citrus, apple and sweet malty character. Body is think, more like a triple than a 6 percent offering. Chewy texture. Filling.
3.2 Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Julio’s Liquors. Aroma is mild--mix of fruity esters and bubble gum. Appearance is hazy light yellow with greenish tinge, minimal foamy white ring of head with trace sparkle and no real lacing. Taste is moderately sweet banana with bubblegum and light spice. Palate is medium bodied with foamy texture but dominant palate feature is fizzy, stinging carbonation. Finish is dry and fruity. Overall, this seems to be overrated to me--prominent faults all around.
2.8 Tap at Barcade, New York. Originally rated 20160212. Colour is clear golden with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Sweetness, grain, some fruits, citrus, some distant hints of hops and malts.
3.7 Medium gold, clear, covering lace. Full body, smooth texture, light but dense flavor, rich and hot mouthfeel with vivid carbonation, lingering palate. Bitter, crisp, off-dry, well balanced. Delicious hop flavors, complex, resiny, floral. Great beer even for non-beginners.
3.4 Bottle, hazy gold with thin head. Sweet and grainy nose. Light malt, crisp bite, lite Belgian spice. Nice flavor not overwhelming but flavorful.
3.4 Pours a pale yellow-gold. Nose is a little cider like with a hint of lemon and a kind of Belgian yeast note. Taste is well balanced. Fresh tasting brew. Nice.
3.7 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: The body has a deep golden color with good clarity and some visible carbonation. It is topped off with a small just off white head. This head slowly settles to a thin wispy film covering. Smell: In the nose I get some light maltiness with mild floral and citrus hop notes. Taste / Palate: The flavor has a good malt base with a slight clover honey like sweetness. This is balanced with floral, citrus and grassy hop bitterness. The carbonation feels well balanced to body making it very drinkable.
3.7 APPEARANCE ? Light gold color with light turbidity. Persistent white foamy head. NOSE ? nice, light Belgian yeasty aromas emanate from the glass as I waft it around. FLAVOR ? light ale flavor with definite Belgian notes. NOTES - Good beer, but not quite the ?gold?.
3.9 Strong citrus and clove aroma. Clear golden body with lasting jead. Flavor begins with strong citrus followed by yeast and clove notes. Bitter
3.6 Bottled. Pour into a tulip, hazy yellow color, white frothy head. Aroma is traditional belgian spices, yeasty, banana, clove, wheat, coriander. Fairly standard. Flavor is lemon candy sweetness, candied sugar, belgian spices, hops, actually pretty nice flavor. A little less boring.
3.6 Golden yellow color, naturally. Puffy white head. Aroma is Belgian spices, with some melted plastic phenols. The flavor is some more of that plastic, but it’s also lots more spiciness, like Grains of Paradise. Feels prickly. It’s a very light beer, full of flavor, some of it a little iffy.
3.7 Pours clear gold with a medium silky white head. Aroma has some tropical fruits and mild yeasty spice. Flavor follows suit and adds a nice grassy/citrusy bitterness...fairly balanced and no one flavor dominates. Mouthfeel is light / medium and lively with a dry spicy/minerally/earthy finish. Very nicely done.
3.4 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy bright golden color with a large creamy-soapy yellow-white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was coriander, lemon, cracker, tart, tangy, musty and yeasty with vague spices underneath. The flavor was tangy, tart and sour with lemon, pineapple, bread, must, vague spices and a strong yeasty presence. Long tart and tangy lemon and yeast finish. Medium body. Solid.
3.0 From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild peachy and slight citrusy. Mild fruity, estery and slight bitter. Mild dry and herbal into a short malty finish.
3.4 Nice large bright white head of fine bubbles. Reduces to a rocky topped foam head. Light and airy aroma with some fresh cut grass, lemons, cereal grains and some paper. Color is a light gold. Crisp lemony flavor with some straw, wheat, a bit of sickly sweetness that you might find in a golden dopplebock. Some pear and apples from the belgian yeast too. Light and crisp. Finishes a bit sweet. A decent belgian golden.
3.6 12oz bottle pours clear pale gold with a finger of head. Nose is soft round spicy hay, banana, touch of citrus peel, some grain, apple, peppery yeast. Taste is clean, well balanced yeast spice and some soft grain and light bread, peppery hay, touch of wild grass. Finish is dry, spice, corn flakes, grain, belgian yeast. Well done, simple yet enjoyable Belgian style.
2.3 This ale poured a light cloudy yellow colour with next to no head. Not a good egg smell. High carbonation with flavours of hops, wieners, yeast and cloves. Thin mouthfeel. Finish is lightly bitter with that Belgian yeast flavour lingering.
3.5 12 oz. bottle, courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Poured a hazy straw color with a 1/2" white head and minimal lace. Belgian yeast and light spice aroma. Hint of clove. Taste hints at Belgian funk with bread dough. Some grapefruit and lemon zest. Interesting mix. Light in the mouth with aggressive carbonation on the tongue.
3.8 Transfer from BA review on 10-30-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – Pours a very hazy yellowish-orange color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, hanging on for quite some time before fading away to leave a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is nice and Belgian like with lots of grainy and wheaty malt and a big level of a yeasty smell. Along with these aromas comes other common Belgian smells with a nice lemon citrus, a good level of grass and banana, as well as some lighter spice aromas of clove and coriander. Overall the aroma is quite inviting. Taste – The taste begins with a biscuit malt flavor as well as some grassy and yeasty flavors straight from the start. There is a bit of sweetness of lighter fruits (tangerine and grape) as well as a lighter spice flavor of clove. As the taste advances the bready and sweet flavors remain relatively constant, with just a hint of a banana flavor joining the tongue. While the majority of the flavors remain constant, the grassy flavors kick it up even more at the end and are accompanied by some more sour lemon flavors as well as a light herb to leave a more bitter grassy Belgian pale ale flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the average to slightly chewier side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. The creamier body was quite nice for the yeasty, wheat, and grainy flavors of the brew, while the carbonation kept it rather refreshing and crisp. Rather nice overall. Overall – A decent Belgian Pale ale with a bit more grass and grain and a bit less banana and spice then the typical. Overall it is a bit drier in nature and a rather nice Belgian Pale ale to give a go too.
