Low Down Brown Ale is brewed in the American style with pale malt, crystal malts, and a touch of chocolate malt. This medium-bodied ale has a distinctive Mt. Hood hop finish.

3.1Nice head initially, but disappeared pretty quickly. Chocolaty brown opaque appearance. Not much aroma. Nutty taste. Kind of watery at end.
2.3Bottle: (An infected one) Pours a deep ruby brown with a khaki film of head. Tart and nutty aroma- some aceto seems to have accumulated over a dark crystal malt and toasted nutty suggestion. Light body. Infected flavor- some soft aceto bacteria covers up, what seemed like a decent nutty and toasted crystal malt body. I need to sample one that’s not infected, this was almost a borderline, sub par Flemish Red.
4.4I had this at a restaurant. It is easily one of my favorite beers - granted I’m no beer expert and haven’t tried too many yet. Very smooth.
3.0On tap at the Carolina Beer Co. bar at the Charlotte airport. Dark ambar colour, slight sweet malt aroma.Chocolate and coffee flavour, slight bitter aftertaste.
2.7January 2009 Beer of the Month Club
Aroma: Chocolate, Nutty
Appearance: Deep brown color, nice head
Flavor: Sweet, nutty, sweet finish, smooth and crisp
Palate: Medium body, bland finish
Overall Impression:
Drinks really smoothly. Definately a nice drinkable beer, but the flavors are not very prominant.
3.0Deep brown with red tinges. A large, light tan, creamy head that quicklty faded. It left no sip lines. Nowhere near as robust as the color would imply. It started smooth and ended with a slight edginess. Not much aftertaste.
3.0Bottle, thanks to Mei. Darker brown pour, a little light brown head. Aroma is like slightly sweet cereal, some nuts. Flavor is the same, with nutty sweet finish.
2.9Dark brown pour with thick tan head and minimal lace. Nutty aroma. Medium bodied. Chocolate, nuts, and a light hop presence. Slightly metallic finish.
3.2on tap at CLT during a layover. Pours a dark brown color with some light making it through. Aroma was very faint and kind of roasty. Taste was overwhelmingly dry with little noticeable flavor but despite this the palate was very smooth. Nice change of pace from the other beers in the sampler.
3.9En el aeropuerto de charlotte por lay over. Es el bar de la cerveceria. Esta es una clasica de mi tipo. Oscura con malta y hops balanceados. Un poco fizzy en draft
3.0This is one of those beers thats not great, but not bad either. It pours a deep brown color with a foamy head. Lots of chocolate malt flavor. Finishes off pretty quickly, but still not a bad drink.
3.3POURS A NICE DARK BROWN COLOR. YOU CAN TASTE THE CHOCOLATE MALTS. NICE CRISP FINISH.
2.5Bottle courtesy of ROBORB thanks dude
Pours a clear dark maroonish brown with a short lived offwhite head Smell is malty nutty and almost lightly tart with some brown sugar and teriyaki sauce.
Taste is kind of tart and sweet with some nuttiness and a bit of a sugary tartness. Medium to thin bodied with normal carbonation. Had a cheapish low quality taste about it and was not one of the better brown ales Ive had, unfortunately
3.1On tap at the UT campus Mellow Mushroom. Deep ruby brown with a small quickly diminishing off white head. Nutty brown malts and sweet aromas. Taste is very nutty with a crisp finish.
2.5pint, at Falls Tap House. weak aroma, Little malt, caramel, brown sugar, papery cardboard. Clean orangy brown color, good head though that might of been the tap line issues they were having. Minor lace. So-so flavor, weak maltiness, chocolate. Minor bitter streak. Lite body, smooth mouthfeel, clean finish that fades away to nothing. Ok at best, nothing stands out, Might resample someday, might not.
3.8This is a simple and excellent beer. It’s not trying to be anything fancy. It’s just quaffable and delicious, and by god, i will buy it again.
2.7Well, I find this somewhat flat. Watery. Fizzy. Muddy. Somewhat soury flavor. Bitter finish. Really not much here. Light chocolatey flavor is lost among the mess this beer is. A shame, as I’ve enjoyed the other Cottonwood beers I’ve had.
3.0Pours a clear dark brown color with huge froathy tan head. Aroma bit nutty and sweet molases. Flavor sweet and nutty, nice malt presence and mouthfeel. Decent brown.
3.6On tap at the Charlotte airport. Muddy brown pour with a nice brown head. Has a chocolatey, nutty and mildly roasted flavor. Light body with alot of taste, not bad.
1.9Part of draught sampler at Charlotte airport. Reddish-brown, almost opaque, tan head. Muted whispers of caramel. Thin and fizzy mouthfeel. Hidden chocolate malts need to be brought more to the fore. Not getting it.
3.1Pours a dark brown with a medium off-white head and no lacing. Nice balance of hops and malt, but I would have liked more of both. This is a pretty standard brown ale.
3.0Your basic brown. Slight roasted nuttiness. Balanced malt and hops. Could have more of both, but very drinkable. You could do worse.
2.812 oz bottle Total Wine. Light roast slightly burnt aroma. Mostly clear amber brown with moderate off-white head.
Roasty malt flavor with some peaty and burnt overtones and moderate astringency. Plum and dark fruit notes. Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Finish is dry with some residual bitterness and astringency.
3.412oz bottle. Aroma of chocolate malt. sweet chocolate malt flavor. smooth creamy mouthfeel with the slightest toasted notes.
2.9Dark brown. Vague malty aroma with a hint of chocolate. Soft malts, with a light chocolate signature.
3.0Tasted on a recent visit to Woods on South in Charlotte, NC. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is faint, maybe some notes of ripe fruit and barley. Flavor is somewhat malty, maybe some hints of chocolate. Medium-bodied with slight bitterness on finish.
3.1(Bottle, courtesy of travita) Pours a mahogany body with a small beige head. Aroma of raisins, grape juice, toasted malt, and light smoke. Flavor of light smoke, chocolate, caramel and roasted malt.
4.0Looks like a stout, drinks much lighter. Served to a group of people who almost only drink Miller Lite. figured I would have to switch away, but they all liked it and drank it all night. A good, quality beer with depth that you can drink even when you want to have more than just a few.
3.2Reddish color clear ok head. Smell is toasty, malty with darker malts, and sweet. Taste is light, toast, and malts. A little watery and thin.
3.0Bottle, thanks to Travita.
Poured a hazy light brown/red color, as if a light cola and cranberry juice were mixed together, with beige head, Kinda low retention. Aroma was citris, almost grape like. Has a nice light tang with slight malt flavor. Light body and somewhat low carbonation. This beer just needed a bit more body in my opinion, seems too watery.
