2.9 Draft at the source. Hazy red color. Aroma of lightly toasted caramel. Taste is similar.
3.0 Nutty caramel and butterscotch aroma. Copper red color. Overall a sweet taste with some bitter crispness to it. An easy drinker yet oddly filling, which can be said of most of Shipyard’s product.
3.1 This one doesn’t get much love since a fair amount of people know Shipyard owns it, but here goes: Pours a light red and gives a darker red body with one finger white foamy head, some light slowly moving carbonation is seen rising; Smell is caramel malts up front, light hops,Taste is mainly sweet through previously mentioned flavors, Palate is light to medium, sessionable, caramel aftertaste Overall, this is good for me and good for the style
3.2 Pours a red-amber with a fluffy off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is bread, coffee, nutty. This is more earthy and malty than I expected. Taste is nutty and mild, some hoppiness; not very complex. But nice in its simplicity. Mouth feel is somewhat chewy. This isn’t too bad; I’d order this in a bar.
3.1 amber pour with a thick cream head. nose is roasted malts, light dough, and bread. thin on the palate, dried bread, crisp, maybe hops?, clean finish.
2.6 Bottle. Pours with a clear copper hued body with a small off-white head that doesn’t last. Aromas are quite sweet, caramel/crystal malt, a good amount of fruity (British like) yeast esters, strawberries, light hops. A touch of vegital, DMS like aromas. Flavors are strongly of caramel, crystal malt, tea, lightly hoppy, iced tea. Bland, but not completely undrinkable. Medium bubbles, lower body. Really bland.
3.2 12oz bottle pours a nice clear deep rosy red amber with thin tan head. The aroma offers up dark fruity estery notes like various cherries and cherry hard candy as well as slight malty notes and spicy black licorice. The taste seems to beam with sweet cherry dark fruity esters and spicy black licorice. Man the more I drink the more anise and black licorice like spiciness I get along with lingering cherry candy notes. Interesting.
3.2 Bottle. Caramel malt and light vanilla aroma. Clear deep amber with a moderate beige head. Caramel malt and light spicy/grassy flavor. Light carbonated body.
3.3 This beer pours amber-orange with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bready malt and hops. Light body with flavors of sweet malt, caramel and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.2 Bottle. Caramel malt and light hay aroma - very nice. Dark amber color with large off-white head. Slightly sweet caramel malt flavor with a hint of pepper and hay. Light body. Smells great but a bit of a let down in the flavor.
2.6 (12oz bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, grass, and bread. Flavor of caramel, toasted grain, and light citrus.
2.9 12-oz bottle. Pours dark amber with medium beige/tan head. Aroma is pretty good - a little spice, a little zest, a little bready malt. Palate is sweet and metallic upfront and quickly recedes, leaving behind a lot of corn/grain/malt flavor and an unwanted sort of putrid bitterness. Somewhat complex and interesting, but not that good.
3.0 Pours a nice redish brown with a healthy head. Tastes malty and creamy with a grainy bitterness and hints of sour fruits.
2.5 Beer of the month, pours bronze with a nice head that diminish quickly, aroma of bread, grain, malt, caramel and a touch of hops, flavor is metallic and sour with some malt tones and moderate bitterness, zesty, medium bodied, not good enough.
2.9 Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear reddish brown with some white foam. Raisins, wine and roses aroma, delicate bitterness that becomes sweet towards the end and quite malty as well. Medium body, smooth finish, soft carbonation. Ok.
2.5 Pours a dark red-amber with a beige head and malty aroma. Taste is of malt, caramel, grains, and bread with a smooth finish. Decent Irish ale but nothing special.
2.4 Cavie brings brown beer. Not much to smell or taste here. I guess I’ll drink it.
3.5 Bottle - gift from my friend Vince. It was from his beer of the month club. Attractive copper pour with a tall, fluffy tan head. Caramel and toasted malt in the nose with soft notes of dark, multigrain bread. Taste is dark bread, caramel, toasted malt, grains, faint fruit and light buttery notes. Body is medium with a creamy but bubbly carbonation. Finishes with more chewy caramel, light earthy hops, bread dough and grains.
2.5 Bottle. Beer of the month club. Almost clear deep amber color with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, butter (diacetyl), caramel, some nuts, fruity notes and some floral hops. Sweetish malty flavor with some butter, caramel, grainy hints, a bit of hops and a slightly bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied and a bit over carbonated. Would’ve been a decent beer without that annoying diacetyl. Still kinda drinkable, but not really enjoyable.
3.5 given to me by someone as part of their beer of month club; amber orange pour; aroma is of toffee/caramel med palate. taste is a good balance of malts, sweet toffee and right amount of bitter hops at end; easy to drink and enjoyable.
3.1 From beer of the month club. darker amber with thin off-white head. minimal nose, hint of toasted malt. Toasted caramel malt flavor, a bit hop astringency that lingers. Fairly crisp flavor. Malt doesn’t hang long. Pretty clean finish.
3.6 Pours copper in color with a bit of light tan head. Floral hop aroma with some sweet caramel notes. Taste is very sweet with only the slightest bit of hoppy bitterness. Bit of yeasty alcohol esters as well but overall, this is a very drinkable and well-balanced beer albeit kind of bland.
3.8 From notes. First reviewed 12/26/2010. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. The pour is a full transparent amber color with visible resplendent carbonation rising from the bottom. A modest beige head slowly fades to a ring. Bready, earthy malt, with a bouquet of floral hops encapsulate the aroma. The taste starts out with a dry amber malt backbone, with some earthy notes as well. Light nutty and caramel (but not sweet) character as well. Finishes with a dry English hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel is clean, dry, and smooth. It feels like it is easy to drink. Full, crisp carbonation. Very slightly astringent. I was pleasantly surprised by this; a great Irish red ale.
3.0 Caramel malt aroma all the way with a little pine hop presents. Nice dark red hue. Caramel malt taste and sweet. Not too complex. One note.
3.1 355mL thanks to DedicatedToFun. Pours a clear amber with a thicker, yellow head. Nice lacework. Diacetyl nose with sweet strawberry candies. Taste is sudsy, dry, a bit sticky, with heavier sweet bread and toffee malt. Small toasted bread character, brown sugar, bready carbs. Not too bad.
3.2 Looks good but cannot compete with russian river..............................
2.9 Strong sweet malty aroma and dark translucent Amber color. The flavor is very palette and pretty thin, almost like a macro lager. kind of disappointing.
3.4 Dark reddish/amber color with a nice foamy head. Plenty of lacing. Very bready, malty aroma. Taste is a bit sour to start but mellows to a sweet malty finish. Clean and refreshing.
3.5 12oz bottle via micro beer of the month club - I like to try new beer, and this red ale by Casco is worth my time. Distinctive red ale aroma is not there, but silky smooth and does showcase a choice hop and malt balance.
3.7 12oz bottle pours a deep ruby with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee malts, with fruits. Taste of caramel and toffee malts balanced well with hop spice and ending with an earthy nutty bitterness. Very enjoyable!
