3.5 A dark Brown colour, with a sweet blackcurrent nose.Sweet strong malt flavour with a little nice yeastyness
3.0 12 oz bottle. I’m guessing purchased in Mexico, a gift from a pal who has been living in TJ and really likes this brew. Oddly enough I had this in my fridge and had their BW on tap the other night. Pours dark amber with a puffy white head. The aroma is sweet and malty with a hint of caramel. The taste is nice, a little thing but quite tasty. At 6% it is about right, I’d love to see what an amped up version of this brew woudl be like.
3.8 Bottle sampled in México D.F. Nice clear red-brown colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma is a bit sweet with caramel and malt. The flavour is quite malty with toasty caramel and some hops. Very tasty beer!
3.6 Bottle. Clear copper colour and a medium-sized head. Fruity aroma with hints of raisins and chocolate. Chocolate, raisins, hints of smoked malts- an explosion of flavours. Sweet, but not excessively so. A bit flat. All in all, a pleasant surprise.
3.1 I was quite surprise on how well this beer was. the look and feel of this beer was very rich. at first sip it has a strong maple syrup flavor that excites the palate. Dark fruit and strong caramel are also present.
2.9 The aroma is caramel, dark fruit, and yeast. The appearance is dark red brown with some floating particulates. The flavor is exactly like the aroma with a touch of cooked corn. The palate is sticky. This is a good beer but it has a little bit of a funky taste to it that is hard to describe.
4.3 I loved this beer. It is complete happenstance that I even came upon it. Thanks to tgbljb from Lancaster. It ended up this beer was part of a trade and I am certainly indebted. As a sweet tooth I love smooth sweet beers and the Scottish Ale style is one of my favorites. This beer does the style proud! Appearance: Pours a solid brown with slight red hues. Nice tan head that leaves a frothy coating thought the duration of the beer. Immense and fantastic lacing. Smell: Very thick aroma (if you know what I mean). It fills your nose; wow! It is the smell of super sweet raw sugar, burnt wood and caramelized malts. Absolutely exceptional. It makes my mouth salivate at the first waft of its aroma. Taste: Toasted caramelized malts was the first thing that comes to mind. There is definitely the toasty-ness and the caramel but there are also hints of other dark fruits; a few plums and a couple of cherries are thrown into this mix. Then there is a bit of spiciness. Maybe it is in part the alcohol but I think the hops are playing a role here as well. It is not overly floral but the presence is just enough to keep the sugar from being cloying. The aftertaste has a bit of a black (charcoal-ish) bitter that offsets the sweetness. Mouthfeel: Extremely smooth full feeling medium body creamy and oily mouthfeel. Just when you think it is going to be chewy the buttery texture slide right down your throat. Magnificent. Drinkability: What else can I say. I have run out of adjectives. By now you know I am a fan of this beer. It is too sweet to be an all nighter beer but it is good for two, and they’ll go down easy. I’m certain because after one I was definitely craving more. Hope this is helpful. Cheers! THANKS: Thanks to tgbljb for the trade! Heres to finding good beer in Lancaster PA :) Cheers!
3.0 Nice mexican ale with dark red colour. Nutty, caramel and roasted malt aroma.
3.2 (Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, orangey brown with a bubbly, disipating, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and dates. Medium-bodied with a light, underlying tartness. Flavours of roasted malt and dried fruits like raisins and dates. A light sweetness appears late. Quite pleasant really. 100606
3.1 Dark red-amber beer with a tight, very persistent yellow-brown "collar". Caramelly, syrupy, bit of licorice, and smelling of fruity esters from the yeast. Bit nutty. Coffe, sweet-ish, with a bit of burnt toaste. Lots of restsweetness underneath. "Jap", licorice. Wry aftertaste, coffee dregs. Slightly oily MF, bit slick, but quite watery in texture. In itself and its category not a bad beer - but there’s not much going on, really.
3.3 (bottle from bierkoning – thanks !) Dark amber colour with a small foamy beige head. Sweet toasted malty aroma with toffee, dark berries and chocolate. Light-sweet flavour, medium body, smooth carbonation. Strong dark and toasted malty taste, well-combined with an underlying fruitiness of dark berries; dry malty and moderately bitter with a roasty and slightly fruity aftertaste. Quaffable.
3.7 Dark red-cherry color, classic foam head. good product from mexico,....nice aroma with warm fruits and full yeast and partikels, no bad ingredients!
2.7 Coca cola brown with a medium and vanishing head, it starte ice cold and with a very watery and tastles attitude to it. Just a smokey scent and a barely noticeble hop background. I was going to throw it away, but as im writing this its getting warmer and a litle better, noticeing some peat, malts, caramel malts, roasted nuts with a slighlty bitter finish, an average beer for the world, but a great beer for Mexico.
3.5 Bottle at Delirium Café in Gothenburg, Sweden. On December 3, 2005.Dark brown color with a nice head. Typical ale like scent, had I not tasted similar in Mexico I’d thought this was not a Mexican beer after all. Nice rich taste.
3.2 Bottled. Cookie and cascade hops aroma. Redish brown color, beige head, fair lace. Sweet, bitter, light floral, light herbal, sherry, very dense.
2.6 35,5 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Dark amber colour with a nice white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, nutty and some acidity. Flavour of toffee, sweetness and very much caramel, ends up little bitter and hoppywith a oily finish.
3.6 Pour is dark mahoghany amber with a nice dense tan head...smell is nice and sweet with caramel, toasted nuts, smoke...taste is sweet and nutty caramel-like with some light chocolate flavors too...sort of sharp finish...
3.1 Bottle, from Fabeers in York. Chestnut, thin off white head and gentle condition. Low roastiness and fruity hops in the nose, toffee chocolate and coffee in the mouth but a little too sweet and oily. Slight chalky roast barley bitterness in the finish.
3.2 Poured a reddish-brown with a small quickly vanishing white head. Aroma is very sweet, like raisiny, pruney sweet. Flavor is more sweet malts, overipe fruits and the like. Toffeeish sweet finish. Better than other Castas I’ve had.
2.6 Bottled. Sweet, sickly sweet malts. Nicely presented but one dimensional. The toffee sweetness harasses your palate continuously until you take another sip of something else.
3.4 Honeylike musty sweetness with some berry-like fruits and a very light suggestion of smoke. Clear medium brown body is topped by a thin but lasting cover of off white head. Honeylike caramel malt sweetness with pleasant fruitiness and a mild coffee-like roastiness. Medium body with soft but vibrant carbonation. Bottle sampled with MartinT and Rastacouere.
2.6 Courtesy of Pialhead. Pours transparent medium brown with a ring of bubbles. Roasted grain arome smells like it might be going sour. Flavor very musty, stale sweet lager character to it.
3.6 Bottle. Smells like someone melted a big ol pile of sweet licorice. nice deep dark colour with a creamy head and a lot of fizz - looks like Coca-cola. Very smooth mouthfeel. Hints of sour berry on the nose as you raise the glass to your mouth. Eminently drinkeable, with a rich toffeeapple quality that doesn’t overpower but helps it down the throat. A bit thin at the end, but I like it.
3.6 Dark amber body with a very small head. Aroma is malty with dark fruits and toffee. Has a slightly sweet caramel finish and a very very smooth mouthfeel. Best I’ve had from Mexico so far... by a LOT.
3.4 The Lure: Mild smoke when the sweet apples and strawberries are crushed. Caramel maltiness and nuttiness agree with the scottish ale appellation. The Festivities: The round mouthfeel given by the caramel malts is quite pleasant, if not too subtle. Finishes yeasty with berry remnants and dryness. A good scottish ale, but nothing exciting. Transcendence: That new cushion on the sofa is pretty comfy.
3.0 Clearish reddish brown pour, producing a gentle off-white film. Tartish nutty nose hints a coffee grains and plum or mango fruits while in mouth, apple skin flavors take more room. Light-medium bodied, soft carbonation. Decent.
2.2 Bottle: Courtesy of Matta via a combined trade with Styles. Aroma is very malty with lots of brown sugar and toffee. Pours a transparent brown with an insignificant largle bubbled head. Flavor is watery with toffee and vegtable flavors. Lightly roasty finish with a hint of sourness. Definitely not working for me.
3.1 Caramel in color. Head dissipates quickly. Hoppy taste. Very watery mouthfeel. Seems to be too carbonated. Slips down throat in a hurry. Not impressed.
3.6 Out of a bottle. Aroma of roasted malts. Poured a dark brown with a light head. Flavor was malty, caramel and light molasses. Palate was nice and even. Overall a nice beer to go with dinner.
3.0 Bottle -- Medium to light brown color with a very thin head. Aroma was mostly roasted malt. Palate was very smooth with nice body. Flavor had hints of caramel and chocolate, but also had a bit of sourness. The 4-pack I bought was a little dusty at the store, so I’m wondering if it was a little old. But outside of that tinge of sour flavour, a nice beer.
