Castle Lager

Castle Lager

Castle Lager uses South African hops – note the solid foam, as well as the reassuring bitterness with undertones of malt. This beer is somewhat dry, somewhat bitter but never sweet.

1.6 Burk. Klar guldfärgad med ett vitt beständigt skum. Dofter av säd, vört och majs. Smakinslag av säd, gräs och vitt bröd. Krispig munkänsla. Alls ingen höjdare.
2.0 Stable yet small head, clean smell (nothing to write home about) and clear with a beautiful gold Lager colour. Taste was disappointing. Very slight malt flavour with grassy undertones that become unpleasant as the beer warms up. In the beers defence, it has a very nice Lager pallet.
3.3 I dont really like it
2.0 Tasted on tap in restaurant Quay 4 in Cape Town as Tank Beer! Clear golden beer with white head, smell is typical as Lager, taste also, boring, fresh, perfect for fast drinking, short finish, not for me,
2.9 Can from Liverpool Street South African shop. I first had this aged nine in South Africa and many times since during other trips. So on a hot commute home I thought, "why not." No idea what it looks like and an aroma of malt from the can on opening. The taste was that of sweet and rich malts with no real hops in balance. My palate has obviously changed as I found it to be too sweet, but perhaps it needed to be colder. It had a good mouthfeel and it was drinkable. I am sure I will have more when I am there in October.

0.6 I'd have to be crawling in a desert. Find a fridge, the last bottle is a Castle. Then I'll drink it!
3.5 My first beer in Africa! 5% Castle Lager uses South African hops – note the solid foam, as well as the reassuring bitterness with undertones of malt. This beer is somewhat dry, somewhat bitter but never sweet.
1.3 Review: 330 ml bottle of Castle Lager: ABV: 5% vol Nice brown bottle with a a logo of a castle, go figure, but nice all the same. Appearance is one of a clear golden colour, with a white head that doesn’t stay around, some small carbonation going on, and overall the beer is not much to look at at all. Has a nice piercing smell of sweet corn, and a lager type aroma, very malty, grainy and lemony. Ok on the nose. Taste has nice warmish mouthfuls. Not a strong initial taste, and a bit flat. Bit metallic in initial taste, not nice, and in overall taste as well. Difficult to drink to be frank. Feck me this was a disgusting beer to drink. I felt a bit sick drinking it. It’s like a chemical infused beer with little thought given to flavours or tastes. Beer two. Taste is very hoppy, too hoppy, too much sweet corn and all a bit sour, hard to stomach especially for what is meant to be a lager. All in the front end. It’s a dead kind of taste. No, too hoppy for me, not nice. Very disappointing when you consider that SAB have morphed into the worlds largest brewer of beers yet their baby, Castle beer is muck.
3.1 Cerveja leve e refrescante.
3.3 good drinkable refreshing lager. nice golden color. slightly grassy aroma. good carbonation
3.0 "The beer is light golden in colour with a nice amount of foam on top just after pouring it into the glass. The taste is standard lager with some sweetness and barely any bitterness. It has a watery aftertaste and ends up kind of boring. Not bad though all things considered." - beersoftheworldproject.wordpress.com Date: 20/09/2017 Bought at: The Savanna in London, England.
2.0 Pours clear pale gold with a white head. Aroma of corn and grains. Taste is corn, grains, metallic notes.
2.4 Sampled from 0.33 l bottle from 'Getrnketempel', bottled in June 2017. Clear, golden yellow with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy and a little skunky aroma of grains and some straw. Moderately sweet, slightly bitter, grassy taste of grains and straw, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly grassy and a little metallic finish. Almost medium-bodied, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay.
2.0 330ml Flasche. Klar und golden mit minimaler Schaumkrone. Getreidig. Wässrig. Typisches Lager.
1.2 This is a commercial beer that unfortunately comes nowhere close to micro brewery levels and should not rated alongside them
1.3 Can - pours yellow gold with white head - nose and taste of corn, spent grain and metal - light medium body
1.5 Bottle @ THT. Weird country lager tick checklist. Typical lager look, clear golden, firm white head on top. Aroma of cardboard, skunk and grassy hops. Flavor is a bit skunked, light sweet and nothing new here. Just that...
2.8 Bottle from a corner shop in Highfields, Leicester. Golden yellow, clear with a bit of white head. Lemon aroma without the normal cardboardy hit in a macro lager. Bittersweet taste with a sour tang and more dryness near the finish. Reminds me of what I remember Budweiser tasting like: boring but surprisingly not terrible.
1.1 Can from Victoria station, London. This isn't as bland as a lot of macro lagers, but the flavour isn't too alluring. It tastes like stale bread and a little bit of syrup. There's also a smoky taste that lingers in the background, like it has peat malt in it, or something like that. Not a great lager, not a great beer.
2.1 Shared at the August THT. Pours a clear golden, white head. Very mild, cardboard juice.
1.9 Bottle at THT August. Clear golden with white head. Cardboard juice, sweet malts, weird bitter chemical, plastic, dry straw. Light sweet and bitter. Under medium bodied. Very bad.
2.2 THT August at Kwartje. Sampled from bottle. Clear golden with white head. Sweet malts, cardboard. Moderate sweet and light bitter. Buttery. Medium body and soft carbonation.
