Celt Experience Silures

Celt Experience Silures

Cask, keg & bottle; Regular.

A powerful and deep bodied pale ale with a fruity spectrum of aromas. This robust beer is brewed using a balance of flavour malts and Pacific and Alantic hops, the result is a massive dry-hopped beer with a perfect profile of bitterness, sweet vanilla maltiness and a blend of citrus passionfruit and mango on the finish.

The beer is named after a powerful and warlike tribe of ancient Britain, occupying approximately the counties of Monmouthshire, Breconshire. The Silures made a fierce resistance to the Roman conquest about AD 48, and it remains unclear whether they were actually militarily defeated or simply agreed to come to terms with the Romans!

3.4 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours hazy light amber with little off-white head. Aroma of pine needles, citrus, light bread, some tropical fruits. Tastes bitter with some sweetness. Bitter finish, dry mouth feel.
3.2 330 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a huge, fluffy off-white head. Aroma is malty, mild toffee, some citric fruit and slightly spicy. Flavor has mild light, hint of caramel, not strog but nice fruit flavor, slightly spicy and moderate bitterness. Medium body and decent aftertaste with a certain bitterness. Not very exiting but decent session ale that shouldn’t offends anyone.
3.7 From a 33 cl bottle bought online somewhere. Apparently this brewery tries to link ancient beer history with the modern craft beer movement by accentuating the piney qualities of certain (US, UK or NZ, according to the label) hops with actual conifer sprouts. Loose, coarse, bubbly, off-white head with good edge retention, hazy peach blonde colour with greenish hue. Pleasant aroma of pine needles indeed, cedar wood (cigar boxes), biscuit, marmelade, some hemp dankness, fermenting hay, bitter honey, dried chamomille (strongly), gari, green olive, old gingerbread, lemon zest, dry apple cake, cinnamon, sweet white grape, unripe starfruit. Fruity onset with hints of green banana, unripe pineapple, slight Conférence pear and yellow plum, very soft carbo - in fact, too soft for the style, bordering on flat (unsurprisingly seen the lack of head). Slick caramelly malt sweetishness, bit grainy, supporting this combo of very restrainedly sweetish fruits and leading them to a hoppy finish, with a long resinous but still gentle bittering quality to it as well as retronasal floral, citrus peel and tropical flower aromas being challenged by an indeed emphatic presence of spruce or pine ’resinousness’, as if you are pouring down an IPA matured in cedar wood cigar boxes, but still softly so. I had more cedar- or pine needle-like beers like this (one example from Jester King springs to mind) but I have to admit that in this case, this fragrant pine wood factor has been well integrated and is married nicely with the piney qualities of the hops, though these hops are certainly not the main player here. Juicy malt sweetness remains with a resinous hoppy edge, but the bitterness remains gentle, though efficiently drying. Session IPAs have been the new craze in recent years and just when I thought they have peaked, I encounter this unusual interpretation of it - proving this modern craft beer substyle still has a lot to offer. Very pleasant in aroma and taste, just too bad for the lack of carbonation!
3.5 (Draught at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 20 Feb 2016) Pale amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of apricots, orange, grapefruit and grainy malt. Malty, hoppy taste with grain, orange, grapefruit, pine needles and a generous, fresh, citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty, well made and highly drinkable ale with a fresh hop profile. Nice one
3.1 Had a bottle at de Tolly in Tarty. Good thing I was suggested to pour in the yeast, otherwise I’d not have thought much of it. The initial hardcore floral hop character turned into pretty nice citric bitter. Overall an above mediocre SIPA.
3.5 Bottle @ deTolly, Tartu. Pours hazy golden with medium fluffy head. Aroma: malty, hay, choice of boiled vegetables, really weak spruce. Taste is medium bitter, hay, dill , spruce, smooth, malty. Well balanced. Aroma is rather bad but taste is good.
3.0 Flaske 330ml fra Gulating Larvik. Delt med Håvard I Tyrihansveien 18 Jan 15. Aprikosfarget. Høyt luftig skum med kremkonsistens I midten. Lett uklar. Aroma av tørket frukt. Smaken ubestemmelig. Ukjent frukt som ikke var min smak.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a orange colour with a thin white head, aroma is fruity and hoppy with a hint of orange, the taste is bitter and fruity with a dry bitter finish.
3.2 330 ml bottle. Typical citrus IPA aroma, very carbonated with a large fluffy white head. Taste is hop forward with citrus fruit such as grapefruit most noticeable. The palate is slightly lacking and a bit watery. Overall an enjoyable and sessionable IPA but not in the same league as some of the others on the market.
3.5 Bottle @ home - Color: clear golden beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: hoppy nose, fruity and floral. Taste: light body with good malt taste well balanced by the hops with floral and grassy taste. Really nice fruity finish. Aftertaste: wet bitterness and floral. Easy drinkable. Nice!
3.5 On tap at Cirkus, Stavanger. Pours hazy golden with a small creamy white head. Aroma is fruity with peach, mango and fruity hops. Taste is dry, weak bitter, resiny and fruity hops. Crisp and lively mouthfeel. Very good for a 4.5 %. Lingering dry herbal, nice.
3.1 Tåkete lys brun med to fingre høyt hvitt skum. Lukter epler, grapefrukt og korn. Smaker syrligbittert, mot besk. Druestein og sitrusskall. Avslutningen sitter.
3.5 Bottle at home. Pours hazy orange, nose is citrus, floral, pine, taste is sweet fruit, quite dry and b
3.1 A hazed golden ipa with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with resinous floral hops, light sulfur notes and some light spoiled eggs. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with light honey and herbaceous floral hops, light clovers, treacle, nice. Bottle from LCBO, 6 months past its Bb date.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a clear golden colour with a fizzy white head. Aroma of passion fruit, lemon, some melon, slight pine, subtle yogurty yeast and grassy hops. Taste of passion fruit, sharp lemon, some mango, slight pine, subtle biscuit malt, a little spruce and grassy hops. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. A dry, grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Not the best Celt beer but it’s different. Hoppy, grassy and bitter. Ok.
2.0 Pours nicely with a good head. Smells pretty good - has a happy aroma. Tastes very bitter with a metallic aftertaste.
3.4 Fairly perfumy, moderately aggressive bitterness, decent English malt and I assume us hops. Quaffable but a bit too sharp for my liking.
2.8 On tap @Mad for Beer (Rome). Pours a golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is malty with diacetyl, citrus, lemon notes and spruce. Flavour has a medium malt profile with a good bitter end. Light body, strong carbonation. Mediocre.
3.1 Tap@pudel. Yellow light hazy. Pretty nice fruity hoppy nose. Green piney berries, something strange too.. some herb? perhaps. Spruces maybe, has that yogurthy vibe. Light bodied, pale malts. Well bittered, bit too much maybe. Leaves a slight grainy finish. -- bb
3.2 Bottle. Creamy White good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.

4.1 Got to try this awesome pale ale with some good friends. A warm golden color. Had a nice hop aftertaste. Flavor stuck with me for a while. I’m not a huge fan of pale ales but I could drink a couple of these.
1.9 Citrus notes but still has an element of skunk to it. Though it’s golden color shines through. The aftertaste could be more refreshing.
4.5 Superb. Light taste, with a slightly tropical flavor. Truly surprised on this one. Nothing foul on the finish. Delighted!
4.2 Dark, golden color. Hoppy tatse at front and nice finish. Slight vanilla taste that brought down the hops a bit.
4.3 Golden amber, tropical aroma, some pine, one of the best session IPAs I’ve tried. Excellent example of the style.
4.6 Excellent session ipa. Golden pour with great head retention and amazing aroma.
3.6 Cask at the Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a broken bubbly white head. The aroma is tropical fruit, sweet mango. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light pepper spice, fruity, light peppermint hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Plenty going on. A great session ale.
