Central City Red Racer Imperial IPA (Red Betty)

Central City Red Racer Imperial IPA (Red Betty)

Dry hopped with whole leaf hops from the Yakima Valley, combined with Maris Otter English barley, which is floor-malted in age old tradition. A long maturation ensures plenty of flavour, with strong aromatics of grapefruit, tangerine and mango.

3.8 Bomber bottle from the LCBO. Beautiful caramel pour, but the hop bomb I was hoping for is noticeably absent. This stuff smells and tastes more like an American barley wine. It’s damn tasty, and smooth as silk, but I want West Coast hop punch.
3.7 2016/05/11 - Pours a clear, medium amber colour with a thick, foamy, off white head that slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is lots of toffee and pine resin, notes of sweet bread and hints of orange and grapefruit. Taste follows nose; heavy toffee and sticky pine, orange, sweet bread and light grapefruit. Mouthfeel is medium to thick and very sticky with smooth carbonation and a bittersweet, drying finish. ABV is very well hidden. Sweeter than most IIPAs, but not overly sweet.
3.6 Shared 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a foamy, long lasting off-white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, caramel, and pine. Similar taste. Has good hops and malt balance. Fairly bitter finish. Nice.
3.3 Bottle from LCBO. Clear copper with a beige head that fades to a ring around the glass. Fairly sweet and malt forward, tangerine, apricot, some papaya, ligt resin, seems more barleywine but curious how long its been sitting on the LCBO shelf...mild+ carbonation and moderate body, light booze presence, bittersweet with a somewhat dry finish.
3.8 Aroma: very fruity with some floral and bitter background; very nice; Appearance: light amber with off white head that dissipates slowly; some lacing; Taste: roundly complex with fruity, sweet, malty and bitter flavors; delicious; Palate: heavy body with long, sweetly bitter finish; Overall: really good imperial ipa; would definitely buy again.
3.8 Copper pour, big white head, aroma is all pine, big sticky pine resin, with some light green hop cones. The body is oily, and sticky, a solid carb. The finish is medium bitter, some light alcohol, with some great pithy pin resin.
3.5 From a bomber. Pours deep gold fluffy white head lots of lace. Aroma of tangerine some candied orange, some toffee. Flavor big candied orange flavor strong toffee caramel flavors. Balance is towards the sweet side. Big sticky resinous mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Big sticky sweet ipa well made but not my favorite version of the style.
3.0 Bomber from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. App.: Clear orange-copper with a modest light tan head. Aroma: Quite rich, sweet, malty and hoppy, lots of red berries and pepperiness, resin/pine, deep caramel/toffee and melanoidin, a little dusty and toasty, orange peel. Palate: Medium+ body with prickly carbonation. Flav.: Quite peppery, resinous, citrusy, with some tropical fruit, big caramel/toffee/burnt sugar, so peppery; off-dry with fairly big bitterness and a long, lingering, boozy and spicy/resinous finish. I’ll stick to the non-Imperial version.
3.7 Rich copper pour with off white head. Big hop nose with sweet malt. Flavor is much the same with an alcohol bite. Finish has a nice balance of roast and hops.
4.0 Big bottle bought in BC Liquor store. Pours a clear golden amber. Aroma is ripe fruits with hoppy notes. Sweet bitterness of ripe fruits in the taste. Piney bitterness and bready notes in the aftertaste. Very good.
3.7 Pours two fingers of head on a hazy dirty straw body. The aroma is rich resin, bread and a little tropical fruit in the background. The taste is moderate bitterness with a huge dose of malt, fairly bready. I like that this imperial shows off the malt side more that others. The texture is thicker. Enjoyable.
3.9 650ml bottle. Orange amber in colour with a small white head, good lacing. The aroma is very tropical, citrus, some pine and malt. The flavour is juicy, lots of tropical fuits and a big hop bite, pineapple and citrus. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy. A good IIPA, not over the top but still nice and chewy.
3.7 Amber color, tons of apple pie and caramel, thick malty, but clean malty mouth. Decent
3.9 real nice strong amber ipa at 9% Nice balance of hop citrus pine and malt caramel
3.7 Bottle from On the Fly Gasmart. High quality IIPA, not exceptional but solid through and through. Pours out a medium reddish amber with frothy head. Aroma is sweet smelling malty hoppiness. Taste hits the tongue square on with tingly hop bitterness. Slick, slippery feel, but finishes quick, the only knock against this otherwise tasty brew.
3.2 Thanks to mcberko for this offering! Mousse généreuse et off white.
3.8 Light amber beer with a thick frothy white head that sets up in peaks. Resinous nose of pine, spruce, and musky herbs. Flavor follows the nose as an oily bitterness coats the tongue with flavors of citrus pith, wood sap, and an underlying caramel sweetness that is hard to pick out beneath all the hops. Solid beer.
3.5 With Z over a game of chess, pours a dark amber red color with a nice beige head. Nose is deep sweet citrus with softer pine and resin. Taste is sweet citrus , hoppy with moderate bitterness . Finish on the same tasting notes with a dry long ending . Quaff Score 6 / 10
3.5 Bomber. Pours a copper orange with an off white head and resin, pine aroma. Taste is bitterness up front, with resin, pine, hops, and caramel leading to a dry, bitter finish.
3.1 Pours deep amber into a snifter. Tan head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Sour caramel aromas. Thick with bitter sourdough, toffee and roasted nuts upfront turning to bitter resin and pith in the lasting finish. Perhaps this bottle has been on the shelf too long....
3.9 On tap at Bitter Creek Boise Clear light Amber with a thick sandy head Huge fresh citrusy aroma Thick sweet body and very big bitter hoppy flavor Rather piney at the end Very good DIPA
4.1 25/VII/15 - 650ml bottle from a trade @ Trillium tasting, home - BB: n/a (2015-1001) Thanks to cards04 for the trade! Clear reddish amber beer, huge aery off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of exotic fruits, citrus, pineapple, caramel, malty. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet malty start, caramel, piny, bit resinous, bitter hops, citrus, creamy. Aftertaste: caramel malts, hoppy, alcohol, very resinous, some pineapple.
3.6 66cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Tderoeck.
3.8 Thanks to tderoeck! 660 ml. bottle sampled. Dark red-hued amber, little white head. Nose is pine resin, malty, some spices, orange, light vanilla,…Taste is bitter pine resin, orange peel, herbal, dried orange, light bitter vegetable note, pine resin, strong bitter orange peel, quite unbalanced but agreeable. Med, dry orange peel body.
3.2 Very malt forward IPA with a significant caramel character. Hops were faded and piney. I think that I may have an old bottle, note to rerate when I get a known fresh bottle. My bottle clearly says the ABV is 6.5% Not an imperial by a longshot--feedback sent
3.0 Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Ori. Clear amber with a big head. Smell of stale green hops and caramel. Sweet, fruity and quite malty, boozy with strong bitterness. Medium bodied, syrupy. Too old and heavy for me.
