Central Waters Lac Du Bay India Pale Ale

Central Waters Lac Du Bay India Pale Ale

This Traditional IPA is a hophead’s dream. The distinct sharpness of British hops and moderate alchohol are balanced by a dry, malty profile and crisp flavor. The result is a brew as smooth as a sunset paddle on the glassy waters of Lac Du Bay. Seasonal March - October.

3.8 Ha ha, ha seasonal March- October as described. That’s um quite a season. I like the aroma in this English malts, roasty, some hops, rough hops somewhat dank in this beer though. Same in taste robust malts, good amount of hops, not a typical English ipa as in mild. English in character but is ipa, with more malt character. Really like this one, like the style generally though. Abv might be my favorate, well done.
3.3 A very straightforward ipa, citrus and pine hop flavor. It’s good, although nothing really stands out about it. Refreshing on a hot afternoon.
2.9 Bottle. Murky dirty orange-gold color with a small off-white head. Very sweet caramel malts, with some citrus hop undertones. As malty as this is, it seems as though the hops are still unbalanced. Not really my bag.
3.6 Taster on tap at Old Fashioned in Madison, Wisconsin. Clear red orange color. Thin off-white head. Leaves great, thicker lace. Medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Nice bigger creaminess. More dry finish. Great full mouthfeel and texture to this. Orange citrus, light spice and pine and zest. Some light caramel, bready biscuity malt. Moderate bitter taste, moderate sweet. Pretty solid balanced IPA. Not too big bodied. Easy to drink, pretty smooth.
2.8 Standard hop-heavy IPA with a bit more malty sweetness than usual to provide not so much a balance than an alternating sweet-bitter combination (though the latter is stronger).
3.5 Draft (or maybe nitro). LAstyear. Much earther, maltier, and sweeter than the typical IPAs of this range.
3.2 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 7-19-14. Scents of toffee, rose, minerals, and orange. Metallic aroma. Pours a clear amber with a moderate amount of light taupe head. Extensive, long-lasting lacing boosts the appearance to a 4. Tangy taste features flavors of toffee, coffee (which surprised me in the English IPA style), minerals, and bran muffin. Malty base with a dry finish. Dry, mineral-y aftertaste. Light to medium body. Soft in the palate. Forgettable palate effects. Overall, pleasant enough but unmemorable.
3.8 Bottle. Pours an oily orange/amber. Thin dissapating head. Aromas of earthy hops, sweet malt, and licorice? Taste is bready malts and earthy hops with a bit of lingering bitterness. Medium bodied witha crisp finish. Very different than IPA’s I’ve been drinking..... so this is very nice!
3.9 Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, earthiness, woody hops and a hint of cocoa. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of caramel, earthiness and woody hops with a smooth dry moderatly bitter lingering earthy caramel finish.
3.0 Form Better Temple Mix a 6. More malty then US IPAs and the hops more herbal. Bitterness at the end of the sip. Serving: Bottle
3.3 Bottle - pours orange, with a light haze - marketed as an English IPA, but this really seems more like a malt forward American IPA - not necessarily a bad thing - flavor of toasty, bready malts and toffee, followed by fairly sharp, high hop bitterness - a lot of fruity British hop character (styrian?) - long-lingering hop bitterness in the finish - it’s alright.
3.3 Bottle pour. Rich amber with full beige head. Webbing all the way down. Earthy hop nose. Some caramel malts. Taste shifts the focus a little more towards the malts, but retains a pleasant, grassy bitterness throughout. A bit of honey sweetness on finish. Solid.
2.7 Faint aroma of citrusy hops. Deep orange color...almost brown with a huge tan head. Caramel sweet malt is the firt taste...almost like a brown ale. Qucikly swallowed up by a dry bitterness. Finish is dry and the bitternss lingers for a long time. Not what I expected.
3.1 12 oz bottle poured into a tumbler..golden orange with fluffy white head..aroma of florals,resin,pine..crisp,dry taste with some hop bitterness..not an American IPA so I was surprised by crispness but expected a little more hop profile..just ok.
3.6 Aroma is fruit/berries, malts and a small hint of hop resin. The flavor is fruit/berries, light grapefruit, malts, oily texture, a hint of hop resin and a mix of bitter and dry in the finish.
3.3 Bottled. Clear dark amber/light brown pour. White head. light floral aromatic. Bittering hops, light caramels, clean finish. Not quite as citrusy as ohter IPAs
3.7 Copper pour with tan head. Looks nice. Nose full of toffee, biscuit, caramel, citrus orange and lemon, and herbal hops. Flavor is toffee and toasted biscuit witg dry herbal citrus bitterness. Lingering toasted malt and dry herbal hops. Quite a spot on English-style IPA.
3.7 Pours an almost amber color with a foamy cream-colored head. Mild aroma of bread and yeast. The taste is biter at the start and stays with you throughout, but there is a nice malt underneath it all. Good, full body. Bitterness lingers nicely at the finish. The "English Style" in the name is accurate. There’s nothing crazy going on. It is what it claims to be, and it’s quite good at that.
3.6 Pours a nice rust color with a big head and some lacing on the glass. The aroma is hoppy in a leafy/earthy kind of way. It’s got as much going on malt wise in the aroma with some light toastiness, very mild toffee, some bright fruity malt, maybe some red apple. The flavor is grassy & pretty bitter, but not harshly so. It’s got a sharp but earthy hop character that’s well pronounced throughout. The malt takes second stage but provides a little bit of toastiness & just the faintest hint of caramel. The beer is not overly sweet in any way & really has a very drying finish. Bold and interesting, it’s one of the more enjoyable IPAs I’ve had with a hop profile like this.
3.8 Clear golden with a nice little head. Malty caramel . Earthy, floral hoppy. A hint of spiciness. Medium body. Solid bitterness balanced out nicely. Nice sweetness. Fair dryness. Nothing flashy here. A solid, enjoyable, easy drinking beer. Certainly different from most of what’s out there now.
3.9 Had a pint at the brewery. I thought it was a very solid beer. I had this one, while my GF had Illumination. Hers was by far better, but Lac Du Bay was a lot easier to drink. Also, I did drink this after a BBS, so my taste buds might have been weekend. Still, a nice floral aroma with a good citrus taste. Mild flavors of caramel sweetness.
3.3 Bottle - Pours chestnut brown, clear with a thin filmy light tan head. Nose is herbal hops, lightly nutty and bready with a bit of caramel. Taste is real bready and dry, with a touch of honey and caramel peeking through. Grassy and herbal hops with a dry hoppy finish. Slick and gently carbonated. Decent, but a little too grassy and bitter for my tastes.
3.6 Pours chestnut brown, pale beige stiff head. Only faintly aromatic. Flavor starts malty, rolls through a range into nice hop finish. Overall stylish and sophisticated - very nice. It is definitely more malty (without being overly sweet) then a typical IPA - perhaps the "English" in the label - if so, I like the English style.
3.8 Tap at Old Fashioned. Unfiltered brown-orange. A really nice, fresh, big IPA. Foamy off-white head. Cool, crisp hop bite. Well done. Clean, drinkable. Great beer.
3.6 Tap at Local Option served in a shaker. Cloudy but gorgeous chestnut color pour with a thick-laced white head. Faint aroma of malt grains. Taste is maltose than expected. Grain sweetness followed by Euro and resinous hops. Dries the mouth; flavorful.
3.5 Tap at the Old Fashioned. Pours dark, dark orange/amber, one-finger of tight white head. Pretty good lacing. Bitter hop aroma with toasty finish. Moderate citrus notes on the tongue, followed by a clean biscuit finish. Nothing spectacular, but easily downable.
3.8 On tap at Old Fashioned 12/31, hope this isn’t a 2 year old keg. Pours a dark murky orange amber with a nice off white head and lacing in the glass, the aroma is more sweet than I was expecting with just a little bit of hops and bitterness coming through, the flavor is pretty sweet as well with a little bit of fruit and bitterness in the finish, sticky mouthfeel and is pretty thick, pretty good.
3.7 Bottle:   Now thats a deep and dark caramel colored IPA!   Almost as thick as dirty pond water.   Huge pillowy tannish head, almost appears to be infected.   Very sticky lacing.   Somewhat of a muted candied citrus peel nose, malty, no real hops to speak of.   It also has a bit of candyish perfume to it.   This is one sweetish smelling IPA.   I like it!   A little of that powdery pixie stix like aroma.   Wow, very much muted hops on the tongue.   Lots of candied citrus peel that is really musty.   This has aged well, and almost takes on the characteristics of an aged Strong Ale or Barley Wine.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Has a sweetish citrusy and candyish hop aspect on the finish.   This held up really well, and turned into something I can really appreciate.   I wonder how this would have been fresh?   Thanks Bob for this treat!
3.4 Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a rocky tan head. The aroma has notes of malt and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and over ripe fruits, but also with an acidic edge. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
2.9 Poured brown with a white head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate. No hops. All malt.
