2.6 Pours a clear golden with no head and no lacing. Nose is of dried prunes and candy. Taste is of raisins and more plums/prunes and really sweet to the point of being cloying. There is still a light tartness behind it all that reminds you that there is still a lambic base underneath. Powdery candies finish. Body is medium, carbonation low and texture is sirupy. On par if not a little better than the average Chapeau but I can’t see how I would ever drink it again. I think I would even turn it down loudly in public if someone tried to serve me it.
2.6 Bottle. Pours golden with low white head. Aroma is of fruit ketchup, sugar, plums, skunk. Taste is of sugar, fruits, plums. Palate: Medium-full bodied, soft carbonation. Overall: Not repulsive actually. I’ve seen worst chapeau, but still.
2.6 bottle shared by mathieuc, thanks bro. pours unclear golden orange with a very small off-white cap offering minimal retention and lacing. plain sugar, sweet prunes, candies, faint lambic, icing sugar. moderately low carbonation, light body - very oily; cloying fruity-spicy finish. reminiscence of old souvenirs of cheap berry-tropical candies. ugh.
2.7 Bouteille 25 cl, couleur ambrée claire, odeur de mirabelle mure, goût de mirabelle, goût pas trop sucré comparait à la version banane, alcool inexistant, se laisse boire
2.0 At Maakun’s. Bottle shared by Maakun. Cloudy dark blonde with thin white head. Super sweet, peach candy, rubber, rotten plums, some faint hay lambic notes and funk. Crazy sweet, not worth to mention light tartness. Sugar crystal minerallike texture. Verry light fizzy carbonation.
1.9 Called Mirabelle but has some purple plum on the label.... OK. Bottle shared at home. Hazy orange golden with small off white head. Lots of sweet plums, sugary, bandaids, rubber, rotten fruit, rotten hay. Very sweet and light sour. Medium bodied. There’s uctually some lambic here but it’s completely ruined by the massive sweetness. Why?
1.9 Bottle shared by Theydon_Bois over RBWG 2016 at the Hyatt - thanks again, Cloin! Pours a cloudy gold color with a fruity tint and a small off-white head that settles into a ring. Notes of rotten stone fruits, yogurt, sugar, straw, spice, and wood. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a tangy, sugary mouthfeel. Gross. I’m glad I only tried about half the Chapeaus he brought. These are terrible.
1.8 Bootle split in Fart Dungeon, post PTY, 05/02/16. Hazed orange with a moderate off white covering. Nose is funky, wood must, sweet fruit. Taste comprises sickly sweet plum, light sour edge, floral. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a sweet drive through. Meh ---- Xickly Xweet garbage.
2.6 Bottle shared during RBWG 3016z pours lightly hazy gold with a creamy white head. Some oxidation in the nose, old citrus, tangerine, grass. Medium sweet flavor, sugary and a little syrupy, with minimal sourness, some earth, damp wood. Sugary finish, faint lemon, wood, sugary grains. So so.
1.8 375 ml corked and capped bottle. Pale golden color with barely a touch of foam. Sweet fruity aroma. Slightly tart fruity flavor has a bit of the lambic tartness you expect with some plum notes. Not so bad.
3.6 Hazy golden color with almost no head. Aroma is fruity and tart with a honey note. Taste is sweet and fruity with a light astringent feel and again the honey note on the finish. It’s quite good overall, one of the better sweetened fruit lambics.
2.0 Bottle sample. Hazy golden-yellow with small off-white head. Sweet aroma of apricot, syrupy with some wild yeasts. Very sweet and artificial flavor, kind of apricot syrup, notes of citrus and wild yeasts, dry. Very carbonated, medium-bodied.
4.4 Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle this beer poured a slightly hazy golden color with a trace soapy white head that left no lacing. The aroma was rich and sweet with sugar, strong plum jam and nectarine. The flavor was sweet sugar, very strong plum jam, fig and nectarine. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Amazing.
2.4 pours unclear blonde , no real head . Smell is overpowering sweetness, from the fruit ( syrups ) , as well as a candy-like fruityness . Taste is sweet , very very bit bitter / funky in the beginning, if you seek well , but is instantly overshadowed by the fruitsyrups . Tastes like lemonade . Ending is very sweet as well, just like you drank lemonade instead of beer. Not really good, since this contains alcohol and is more expensive, Why not just drink lemonade? I never really understood what crowd de Troch tried to get with this series of beer .. never met anyone who liked them ...
3.1 *Old rating, best before 08/05/14. Schöne frische Mirabelle mit einem leicht süßlich-holzigem Bier. Lecker, fisch, nett.
2.9 Golden cloudy with medium white head.Fruity aroma. In taste meixed lambic sourness with fruity sweet and sour with a touch of some bitterness later.
3.0 Bottle in a hotel room in Brussels. Hazy golden colored with a medium sized white head. Fruity aroma of caramel and plums with notes of dust and candies. Fruity flavor of plums with notes of oak and candies. Fruity finish.
1.4 Bottle shared. Pours murky peach with a white head. Aroma of sweet artificial indistinct fruits with a tough of prunes. Flavour is heavy sweet with a hint of acidity lingering behind. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Bad, but I’ve had far worse Chapeaus..
1.8 25cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis Thin white head. Too sweet. Cloudy blond pour. Not very good
2.7 10/I/15 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ Cybu’s place - BB: 8/VII/15 (2015-31) Little cloudy amber beer, big irregular aery whtie head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, peaches, sweet, bit sugary, overripe fruits, apricot jam. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: little sourish, oranges and tangerines, sweet and sugary. Aftertaste: sweet, jam, sugary, fruity, TBH I never actually ate real mirabelles in my life, but I suppose this is probably pretty much what they must taste like, since most other Chapeau’s are pretty spot on with what fruit they represent. Also: I don’t think there’s a lot of fake chemical mirabelle syrup available... :p
3.4 Bottle from wife at christmas from beers of europe. Hazy light orange beer, no head. Aroma of peaches and sweet sugar juice. Taste is peach, apple pulp and sweetener. There may be mirabelle in there, but I have never tried it so I wouldnt know. Overall very sweet but I enjoyed it.
1.9 Bottle. Orange color with medium small white head. fruity aroma of mirabelle, apricots. Sweet fruity taste with ripe plums, apricots, artificial sweetener. Bad.
3.1 0,33l bottle @ Viisi Penniä. Pours hazy orange with a medium head. Aroma is sweet and slightly bitter plums. Flavor is very sweet and also bitter plums and some malts. Quite decent.
2.2 Had the plum version. Smelled nice but taste didn't hold up at all. Too sweet to finish a glass. Dumped it.
3.4 Not bad for a sweet lambic! Mirabellle are so sweet plums that you can expect the worst!
3.2 Bottle. Yellow, hazy. Sweet marzipan, peachy fruityness, bit of soury tones. Light bodied, sweet. Sweet malts, sweet peach, but an acidicy to wipe the palate. Dry fruits in flavour, marmelade. A bit too sweet flavoured, even with the tartness. Sort of a soda pop- beer. Fruity, sweet. On the good side, doesn’t feel watery or fake at all.
2.6 Couleur légère ambrée trouble. Nez de pulpe de mirabelles. Gout de mirabelles cuites, pas trop sucrées, notes caramelisées mais un peu astringente en fin de bouche. Corps leger
3.6 Donkergeel troebel bier met schuim. Geur is duidelijk fruit. Smaakt zoetzuur, fruitig naar pruimen. Eigenlijk best wel lekker. Etiket is inmiddel gewijzigd.
2.2 Sweet, flavored fruit beer with 4% juice from mirabelles, a member of the plum family, not well-known anymore in Belgium except to old people in the countryside. Off-white, loose, unstable foam, dirty peach blonde colour with pinkish hue, cloudy. Strongly sweet aroma of mirabelles, something between plum and peach, lemonade-like sugar, weak lambic character with some hay, some wood and some sulphur (yeast autolysis?). Sugary taste, bit lemonade-like, plum juice, faint lambic earthiness in the finish, which is otherwise - regrettably - dominated by a cloying, unpleasant sweetness.
3.3 Een lekker verfrissend biertje. Een aanrader op warme dagen en beter dan die Lemon.
