1.0Tasting at Maakun’s. Smerige stoffige kartonnen kauwgomballenwinkel. Tyfuszoet en smerig. Stinkt ook naar kots en stof en oude goedkope snoepjes. Met mint. Backlog from 2015/10/09.
2.4375 ml bottle shared by James. Not sure where the gueuze was here. Big grape flavor. Fruity nose. Meh.
2.6375ml Bottle - Amber in colour. Raisins and musty notes in the aroma. Tangy, sweet and tart taste with raisins and dates standing out. This bottle is one I bought in 2006 and is still in reasonable nick but not really my cup of tea.
1.4When I poured this beer and when I first smelled it I thought, "well it’s a gueuze, it can’t be as, right"? Wrong. Awful beer. Aroma was sweet hard candy and little vinegar. Pour was a clear medium hold with a thin off white film for a head (even after a vigorous pour). Taste was nasty. Artificial sweetener with notes a sweet apple cider vinegar. Teetth hurting sweet. Nasty sticky wet sugary finish with barely any carbonation to liven the beer up. Dumped it halfway through the glass and that’s rare for me. Nasty stuff
2.2375ml bottle. Small white layer. Not too carbonated. Red brown color. Aroma is candy, oak, wine gums, roses. Sour taste of candy.
2.0Aroma is grape/grape juice and mild vinegar. The flavor is grape juice, mild vinegar, malts and a medium sweet finish.
3.1Pours a clear gold with a small but stubborn head of foam.
Smell is fruity, sweet, very mild presence of a sour note or 2.
Gueuze meets winter ale and it works. Fruity sweet notes, nice mix of spices, I get quite a bit of ginger, and a very light sour "bite"
On the light side of medium bodied and tres easy to drink
I like.
2.6Look; off white top, near clear amber golden body.
Aroma; fermented apples, peels, paint.
Taste; fruity bunch of apples, honey, marzipan, bhutan, - leading to a sweet juicy nutty finish.
Feels juicy.
Overall as fruit beer, ok except for that odd paint scents.
[37.5cl green btl, cap n cork, I’d to use both beer- and wine-bottle openers, 5.5%abv, BB.03.08.16]
2.433 cl bottle. Clear golden color- some foam . Medium aroma intensity; some stable, funky & fruity. Sweet and sour. Medium body & complexity . Ok Beer
1.6Bottle shared at home. Clear dark golden with small off white head. Roses, puke, wort, sweet rotten grains, cane sugar, mint, lots of sweet herbs. Taste is sweet wort. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Tastes like unfermented wordt and smells like garbage juice. Disgusting.
2.4(bottle, 37.5cl) Hazy, murky golden to amber colour with a short and slightly off-white foamy head. Slightly acidic, mouldy and yeasty aroma with artificial fruity notes of bonbon and candy. Sweet and slightly sour-tart flavour, light to medium bodied with a tame carbonation. Initially sweet and artificial taste with notes of candy; sweet and sour-fruity finish with mouldy notes. No pleasure. 15.IX.15
1.1Easily one of the WORST beers i have ever had. I would have never thought that a terrible "geuze" like this could make it overseas to where i live.
aroma is like those 90’s sweet juice drinks that come in plastic bottle-shaped containers or little hand grenade containers. That, mixed with some metal and cheese.
flavor is metal, corn syrup, vegetal, and very slight sourness that all works together to produce the most unappealing mess i have tried that calls itself lambic.
3.0The most persistent thing in here is fake grape juice - like tang drink crystals. Of course, this aroma must have been around before tang invented it, so I’m not sure that’s de Troch’s fault. Pinkish pour with ok head. Mostly sweet finish. Bottle.
2.9From a 33 cl bottle at the WWWW RB tasting. Pours a clear pale pinkish gold. Aroma of sweet cane sugar. Flavors of candi sugar. Where’s the funk?
3.9Pours a pale, effervescent light copper with a long-lasting white foam head. Aroma is raspberry, with a very light hint of tartness. Flavor is sweet, syrupy fruit. I bought this expecting something sour and got something sweet instead. Oh well. I enjoyed it, but I can understand the low ratings.
3.8375 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, peach, apricot, apple, white grape, candi sugar, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/funky yeast and moderate malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, peach, apricot, apple, white grape, candi sugar, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Slight tart/spicy finish; with lingering notes of lemon, peach, apricot, apple, white grape, candi sugar, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of fruity/funky yeast and moderate malt sweetness; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good sweetened lambic style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/funky yeast and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
2.9Appearance: clear dark gold, small white head. Aroma: rather sweet, but otherwise a typical lambic/gueuze aroma, with green apples, rice vinegar, a bit of lemon and a dose of funk strongly reminiscent of stilton cheese. Taste: hugely sweet, with green apples, peaches in heavy syrup, muddled pears, a bit of cough syrup. Finish: slightly dry in the back of the throat, almost like a real gueuze should be, but there’s a lingering sweet syrupy feel that’s overpowering. Notes: ok, a winter gueuze, eh? So that’s why it’s like drinking slightly lambic-flavored syrup. Interesting concept, but would not try again. Bottle from the Westover Market, Arlington, Virginia.
1.9Dark orange color, almost no head. cork comes out appears totally flat. Smells like lemon and gingerbread. Ever had an old lemon meringue pie with ginger, clove, table sugar, mint leaves and balsamic vinegar? That’s this!!! AYAYAYAY!
3.5Shared 12.7 oz. bottle, poured to snifters showing a fairly clear, golden color, with a modest layer of white head foam that reduced rather quickly to a ring & film, and left some light, web-like lacing on the glass. The aroma presented a lightly tart, light cider & white wine nose, with not much in the way of yeasty funk. Light bodied, with lively effervescence, the taste was as sweet apple. Not overly complex, but a pleasant, drinkable blend. Winter Gueze on the label.
1.4Bottle. BB 2013. Copper pour with no head. Cork was soaked and a bit moldy. This was bad... Mold, cork, sugar, syrup... Drainpour...
1.1Clear cooper of color with a white head. An aroma of candy, cherries, cow barn, flesh, fart and malt. A flavor of sugar, cow barn, old fruits, malty and old dough.
2.8Bottle titled De Troch Winter Gueze. Pours deep, clear gold into a tumbler. White head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet, dark pit fruit aromas. Sweet and fruity strawpeacheraprirazapple flavor. It does sort of hurt my teeth in it’s sweetness. Lasting mildly bitter wood finish that quickly turns cloying
2.8(from notes) Bottle shared at the Stuffed Sandwich last week. Nice nose. Clear yellow pour. Very sweet finish with some cherry notes.
1.4Bottle sampled at Essen Winterbeer Festival 2014. Pours clear golden with an off white head. Artificial sugar aroma, sickly sweet caramel. Nasty sickly palate. Flavour is heavy sweet and just a touch acid. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. A sorry excuse for the style.
3.4Bottle from a bottle shop in Belgium. The cork was soaked with I opened the bottle, it would have been leaking without the cap. Fruity smell with red berries and some cellar notes. Sweet and sour taste with red berries and cellar notes. Sweet finish. Actually not that sour.
3.1Bottle, as "Chapeau Winter Gueuze." Nose of berries, other sweet fruit juices, and a little funk. Slightly hazy amber color, some lace. Sweetish initial, light berries, cherry, with a small tartness. Thin, with just a bit of astringency. Very fruity, but not so satisfying or interesting as a gueuze.
2.729/11/2014 375 ml bottle @ WBF
Hazy orange with almost no head. Aroma is sweet, apple. Taste is sweet, liqorish, fruity. A bit strange
2.4Bottle at DØE Frederiksberg. Low fluffy and quickly disappearng white head. Hazy golden body. Dusty perfumed apple aroma. Sweet apple honey flavor. No hops bitterness. Low carbonation short finish. Too sweet.
2.8Bottle split with Bruce and Colin at De Heeren van Liedekercke - Denderleeuw, Belgium. Pours clear, red-gold with a creamy white head. Lots of ripe, sugary fruits in the aroma, some raspberry in particular. Big sweet flavor, syrupy, with more raspberry, low tang. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Syrupy finish with very slight sourness, more sugary fruits, bread, apricots. Pleasant enough but very sweet and not a good lambic.
