3.3 28th May 2011 Cloudy red - brown beer, short lived off white head. Dry and crispy palate. Mildly tart cherry with a dry malt base. Dry finish. It’s on kay beer that paired up well with chocolate brownies!
2.6 Not doing it for me. Pours cloudy brown no head or lacing. Ugly liquid to look at. Nose muted, some yeast and cherries. Aromas are similar, yeast, light cherries. Tastes are light sweet. Light body with low carbonation.
2.5 22 oz bottle. Used a English pint. Looks like brown muddy water. Little to no retention. Nose is a light musty fruit order. Wheat yeast is noticeable. Bread malt, weak tart fruit note, however I would never call it cherries. The body is thin and texture is real watery. No cherry Kriek flavors to be found. I understand where Rouge wanted to go with this brew but.. maybe the bottle is old. The taste is bland and I could barely finish my glass.
3.2 The beer is a brown, ruby-tinged color, and appears slightly hazy. The head is undersized, and leaves sparse lacing on the glass. The aroma is earthy with sweet cherries, and a subtle yeast / bread character. The flavor is decent. The cherries are there, but play more of a secondary role. Nice malt flavor. Everything seems pretty well balanced. The flavor is mostly sweet, but finishes with a subtle tartness. The body is thin to medium, with fairly light carbonation. Overall, this was drinkable, though unexciting. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-06-2011
3.2 May 13, 2011 - with blankboy, jerc & mabel. blankboy’s bomber. Fairly murky brownish-amber with suspended tiny black floaties and an average tan head. Aroma is fruity - I guess it’s cherry, seemed more generic than that - quite sweet with just a little bitterness - pretty simple, doesn’t do much for me. Taste is ... cherry, with a bit of mild coffee ground acidity, at least it’s not as sweet tasting as smelling, quite tart, not much alcohol. Slightly sticky, still, a little wan acidity (I wanted a lot more), slightly sweet, finishes sticky and dry - ehh.
3.7 I liked this beer. A purple brown pour. Aroma is sweet of malts and fruit. Cherry, blackberry. Flavor is also sweet with some nice cherry flavors. A really great alternative beer.
1.7 Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy reddish color ale with a large foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of cherries with clear cough syrup notes and lightly sweet malt notes. Taste is also dominated by sweet cherries with some definite notes of cough syrup which are not that easily discernable. Body is full with light filtration and good carbonation. I really couldn’t get the cough syrup notes out of my mouth and I finally drain poured the reminder of my glass.
3.3 650ml bottle pours a cloudy pale amber color with a small white head which leaves a few specks of lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild but pleasant with some caramel and citrus. Taste is light malty sweet with some citrus hop bitterness and a tart cherry finish. An easy drinking and tasty fruit beer that is recommended for a tasting.
3.6 650ml bottle. Hazy red shade with lots of foam on top. Nice aroma of deep, dank cherries and some grain character. Taste incorporates the cherries well, with an associated sourness and light sweetness from the sticky malts. Not a beer that will amaze you with complexity but a pleasant, well-worked fruit beer all the same.
3.5 Light cherry aroma. I think the goal here was a cherry ale. Kept a nice thin head a long time. Appearance is exceptional. Taste is of sour cherry. Not real impressive. Palate is of cherry. Light and thin. Overall average beer.
3.3 Bottle, poured a murkey brown color, medium head. Aroma is dark fruit, cherries, raisin, belgium yeast, apple. Medium sweetness, light sour. Medium body, ave carbonation. The fruits show up in this one. Sour throughout which is expected. Not bad.
2.7 Pours reddish amber with a white head that leaves a little lacing. Not much smell a bit sour with a hint of cherries. Taste is mostly tart with slight malt and finishes the same.
3.8 22oz bottle poured into my fancy Sam Adams glass. Pours a murky ruby/nut brown with minimal head. Aroma of tart cherry and some bread and caramel. Taste is about the same. Tart cherry with some bready malt and....Brett? I swear I taste some Brett in there. Medium bodied with a sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, I’m glad I found it on the discount rack for a little over a buck. I’ll drink it now but won’t be seeking it out again.
2.4 Poured reddish brown. Smelled slightly of cherries but not alot of anything else. Tasted very light and dry no.real fruit.....boring
2.9 It’s murky dark brown with few bubbles. Cherry and some dank barnyard aromas. The flavor is gently tart up front, mixing fairly well with hoppy twang, dries on the finish with just a touch of cocoa powder bitterness. I would say it’s on the light side of medium bodied. It’s not like a heavy Belgian kriek, and less sour, but it’s still good. I was hoping for a bit more effervescence, perhaps mine was a bit old.
3.2 Bottle Appearance - Cloudy brown, thin head Aromas - Brown sugar, cherries, raisins Taste - Tart, cherries, light malts This is not what I expected from Rogue - not to say that this is bad. All in all this brew is very light, the tart from the cherries is light and pleasant. Slightly malty and getting dry towards the end, it’s still a brew that will make you go "hmmm" sip after sip. Interesting...
3.2 Heavily clouded brown/red color with zero head but some bubble residue on top. Nose has light cherry, some mild roasted notes, grape and some light caramel malt sweetness late. Flavor starts with an apple cherry combo and moves into a light toasted malt presence with some sweet apricot and grape notes late. Body is modest but the carbonation was a bit flat. A light tartness finishes the mouthfeel at the tail end of the tasting. Overall an okay beer. The cherries didn’t dominate and complemented the smooth malty toasted presence. Only complaint is the carbonation was on the low side from the bottle. Would of made it feel a lot better to have some more carbonation to this beer.
3.1 Name: Chatoe Creek Date: November 05, 2010 Mode: Draft Source: Taco Mac, The Fred Appearance: muddy amber, fine beige head, drippy lace Aroma: light sweet cherry aroma Flavor: sweet malt flavor, light fruity sweetness, touch of cherry tartness, light mustyness Aroma: 6/10; Appearance: 7/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 12/20 Rating: 3.1/5.0 Drinkability: 7/10 Score: ** /4
2.9 Draught @ The Pit. Hazy light copper with two fingers of creamy sandstone tan head. Nose is lightly spicy with some aromatic grain and cherry skin. Flavor is god awful. Thin with an off yeast character and rotten cherry. Not going into much more detail here. Bleh.
3.1 [Bottle] Pours a dark shade of brown with a quickly receding tan head. Nose is of debittered black malts, cherry, dark fruit and sweet toffee notes. Taste is of muddled dark malts and fruity notes. Plums, cherries, sour notes, green apple, plastic off flavors and hints of cocoa powder in the flavor. Average carbonation and palate. A fruity brown ale that really is rather boring.
2.5 In short: An unclean and messy fruit beer beer (not really cherry). Meh. How: Bottle 22oz. Split three-way The look: Cloudy rust color body with a lot of small particles. In long: Nose is a bit fruity (but not really cherry) with a musty character and dirty socks. Taste is stale water, dirt, overcooked berry pie, yeast, a bit of caramel, wet basement, a bit of sweetness, breakfast dark grape juice. Not to sure what to make of this supposedly cherry beer, it felt very dirty and amateurish. I didn’t care for it at all but Rogue are not exactly known for their fruit beers. Before you consider buying a bottle of this beer, maybe you should consider that it is actually easier not to.
3.4 bottle. Dark ruby brown with a beige foam. Aromas are weetabix and fudge with bubblegum and bready yeast. Dark cherries with prune juice. Flavours are sweet prune juice with some cherry acidity. Background chocolate malts with bready notes. Slightly tart on the finish and fairly dry
3.1 Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Created a thick soapy layer of foamed head where the liquid was a glowing brown tinted mahogany hue that was full of hazy sediment. In the nose there is a bold scent of cherries and cranberries with a mild undertone of sweet malts. The flavor is somewhat astringent with an artificial taste of cherry that is found in a cherry soda or vitamins but it is worth mentioning there is some nicely toasted malt that hints towards chocolate while there is a pleasant taste of organic hops. Other than that, not much going on here that I care for and would make me drink this again.
3.2 tap@pap Chatoe creek ale. Dark cherry nuts color w an ow tan head. A=malt, dark cheries, band aids, rubbery medicinal and herbals. F=A a bit mediciney, rubberized yeast and tannins. A touch savory. 3.2 12/8/10
2.6 pours dark mahogany brown, lasting micro carbonation, small head. Reminiscent of a lambic kriek, lots of forward malts, followed by sour tart dry cherries. Lacks the sweetness amazing depth of krieks, but on the other hand finishes clean and without the funk. Overall a "tamed" version of the outlandish Belgian lambic krieks, though not particularly exciting.
3.4 Sampled at Minneapolis Beer Fest. Out of the mediocre line up offered at MBF, this was a pleasant surprise. A nice bit of fruitiness complimented the malty and hoppy notes quite well.
3.0 Bottle. Brown pour with a small head. Aroma of sour cherries and sweet malt. Flavor is cherries and lemons, but not in a good way. Meh.
3.1 22 oz. bottle from Hayduke. We enjoyed it together via facebook chat. This poured a muddy dark brown with a light brown thin head. The nose was never big but was full of cherries. First sip was those cherries and some plums. Cherries ran supreme here and soon little else was tasted. I decided that the hops were tasted but they did almost the same thing as the cherries. They added bitterness but so did the cherry. In the end, the hops confused things and did not compliment. This just didn’t work and probably should have gone through at least one more recipe revision.
3.1 Shared tasting with Strykzone .Pours dark muddy copper with soapy beige head. and good lacing. Nose is sour and cherry. . Medium in body and lively mouthfeel. Flavor is sour cherry and plums. Hops are lost. Sweet finish. Kind of a mish-mash of flavors.
2.8 Appearance and aroma are good to its style. Belgian yeast and cherry aroma. It was a purpleish red in color kind of nice to its style,Its wheat so explains the light body flat watery to this.I didnt know it was a wheat, IM also not big on fruit beers but this is definatly cherry. With the belgian yeast its almost not a beer and definatly not very beery. The cherry is very dominate. This is why i dont buy fruit beers much.Although i had a RJ Rockers Peach Wheat recently and it was pretty good.
