3.6750 ml bottle, thanks TimVim. Slightly hazy golden with white head. Aroma sweet, malty with lots of yeasty esters. Taste is yeasty, sweet, malt and alcohol
2.8Flaska från Belgoklubben. Kopparfärgad med gulvitt skum. Doft av jäst och karamell. Mycket smak av jäst med lite skumbanan.
3.6330ml Bottle - Dark brown with some orangey tinges. Mince pies, fruitcake and spice in the aroma. Fruity and fairly rich taste with a slight sweetness and notes of fruitcake and Christmas pudding.
2.7Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, raisins, slight dark fruits, some liquorice. Flavour is medium to heavy sweet with a light to moderate bittersweet finish. Just to sweet and uninteresting to me.
3.3On tap at the Rootz winter beer festival.
Thin off white head. Clear deep ruby pour. A little sweet. Nice.
3.4Draft at Rootz Winterbeer festival. Pours clear dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of overripe dark fruit, raisins, booze, caramel and light spice. Flavour is light heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium bodied with light carbonation.
3.2Tap at Rootz festival as Kapittel. Dark brown with off white head. Sweet malts, roasted grains, caramel and quite some yeast. Light creamy feel. Meh
3.2Draft 0.15l taste sample with tderoeck at Horeca Expo Ghent Belgium 2014.Pour it dark reddish color with small white head.On the nose sour flavour.Taste and aroma of sweet fruits but light, spices, bitter on the end.Not so good balanced.
3.475 cl bottle at home. Pours a rich ruby red with a small head that soon disappears. Very little aroma, a bit of rich malt and some peatiness, like a whisky. Sweet, with slight balancing bitterness. There is some spicing, but it is quite subtle. Quite lively on the tongue, thin mouthfeel. Overall, not bad. It avoids the cloying stickiness some Xmas beers have and is better for it.
3.233cl bottle shared. Pours dark brown with off-white head. Not much aroma. Taste has a bit caramel, bit sweet.
3.5250 ml unfiltered bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. Hazy dark brown colour, large off-white head. Moderate aroma of malts, caramel and dust, hints of spices. Malty flavour, nice sweetness, caramel, brown kandij sugar and mild spices, slightly warming mouthfeel. Pleasant to drink.
3.3Bottle at Cardinal during DSJT 2014. Muddy mahogany body with a white rim. Malty nose with raisin notes. Sweet flavor and salty wooden tones. Full bodied, alco warm beer.
3.1From bottle at DSJT at Cardinal 09.11.14. Soft aroma of roasted nuts, toffee and berries. Soft taste of ripe berries. Low bitterness.
3.3Chestnut brown color with off-white head. Aroma of sweet wort and dried fruit. Taste of dark fruit.
3.2Bottle-fermented Christmas beer from Leroy, with thin, off-white head and bronze colour. Caramelly profile, fruity, raisins, brown sugar, spicy yeastiness; caramel malts in the mouth, straightforward, with fruity sweetishness and slight roasted bitterness in the finish, thin body. Admittedly this is not a big, opulent, thick Christmas ale like many of its congeners, but Leroy beers are an echo from the past, when beers just had to serve their purpose without exhibiting pompous gastronomical ambitions. I guess this is hard to grasp for the hipsters following big craft ales, but with respect to Belgian beer history and culture, it is a good thing that things like this - and table beers, in which Leroy also does a very good job - have existed, and still do. Respect.
2.7Bottle, brown colour, beige foam. Soft carbonation. Sweet aroma of light oasted malts, caramel, dark fruit and brown sugar. Some metallic hints. Light bitter finish. Ok, nothing special.
4.1In Leuven at the ZBF vintage 2008. Reddish dark color, cloudy. Little tick ivory head. Nose: raisins, dry fruit and cookies. Mouth of cherries, dry prunes, raisins. Good beer!
Smaak is verrassend, fruitig, kers, framboos en licht zuur, gemiddeld bitter. Uitstekend bier wat lang blijft hangen.
3.3Clear brown color with anice off-white that fades quickly. Aroma is sweet with caramel notes. Flavor also sweet with some roasted malt and fruit notes. Mediu to high carbonated and medium body with a sweet finish.
2.5Semihazy dirty brown body, white head. Aroma is sweet wortish with some nuts and butter. Sweet and yeasty taste.
3.4Clear medium brown with a one-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt and dark fruits. Dark fruit sweetness with caramel malt and a light bitterness. Full body, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a dark fruit finish.
2.8Bottle from Hammelhus, Hammel. Dark brown colour with nearly no head. Malty aroma/taste, caramel notes, some dark fruits, hint of spice. Very watery body. Sweet finish.
2.7Bottle from Hammelhus, Hammel - pours dark amber brown colour, with almost no head. Has a sweetish caramel, malty aroma and taste, with some slight dark fruits, and only a weak hint of spice. Pretty weak watery body, and boring overall.
3.7260ml for 800 yen at Standing 1020. I’m surprised to see a Belgian beer on tap here as it is usually just Japanese craft beer on tap. A dark ruby brown, they scooped out the head & filled it to the brim! Served cold, not getting much on the nose. The taste is rich bitter malty caramel with cinnamon. Tasty, very Christmasy but not overpoweringly so. I like it, it has a nutty aftertaste, a pleasing Belgian flavor but all I get from the aroma is a Belgian yeast & cinnamon scent. This is exceptionally balanced with no booziness. Nice subtle spicy nose like a malty cinnamon tinged saison. The taste matches that impression, medium bodied goodness.
1.8My first Christmas beer this year. There was something not quite right with this, hints of cardboard on the nose, rotting vegetables. Thin malt with very little aftertaste, sweetish toffee, bland for a 7.5% beer. I didn’t finish it.
