Christoffel Robertus

Christoffel Robertus

Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

2.6 Red brown color with average size white head. Caramel aroma. Caramel flavor with alcohol finish.
3.2 11.2oz bottle in a lager glass. Pours ruby/brown with a thin, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel and light grainy malts with a little toffee and some floral hops. Flavor the same. Smoother texture than most of this style. A decent beer.
2.9 33 cl. swing top bottle. Pours a light beige head, with some lacing, over a hazy, particle laden, light brown (SRM 20) body....nose is cereal, light raisin, light molasses, yeast....taste is cereal with light raisin, fig, touch of molasses, finishing with hints of sweetness in the final light bitterness....mouth feel medium, carbonation low. This meets the style, but is not very interesting. I wonder, given the heavy presence of particles if this wasn’t mishandled at some point. BJCP 6/2/11/4/6
2.9 16oz bottle-shared by fbm115-pours a light tan head with hazy brown color. Aroma is caramel-medium malt, dark fruit. Taste is caramel-medium malt, dark fruit, some earthy hops.
2.5 Bottle thanks to Steve. Pours dirty brown. Tan head. Nose/taste of powdery malt, wort, rubber tires and fruit. Something’s off. Medium body.
3.0 I will have to re-rate again after I get another bottle. I think I got an old bottle like some of the other raters did. Dark cloudy brownish-red. Malty with some dried cherry flavor. Very flat. A lot of sediment. Tried enough to get the flavor but didn’t finish as it seemed off. I could tell that it probably would have been quite nice if fresh. Serving: Bottle (Flip top)
4.4 330ml swing-top bottle from Beers of Europe. Oh, yummy. Big malty sweetness. Nice body - light enough to be refreshing and easy to drink, yet thick enough to be chewy and satisfying. Nice hop nip in the finish, lingering pleasantly. Good range of malt and hops flavours - toffee and banana notes alongside, earthy, herby flavours. Some spice and light citric fruit. Mmmmm, what a beauty. Enjoyed this one very much!
2.6 Maybe a bad bottle, and the swing tops don’t hold out oxygen very well like corks or bottle caps do, so that might be why this was so disappointing. Brown color, not too appealing or unappetizing, just brown, very little carbonation which was probably a result of the oxygen. The taste was sickly sweet, like molasses, like it coated my tongue, I needed a glass of water to wash it down. Only tried it because it’s one of michael jacksons 500 classic beers.
3.2 Dark brown reddish color, pretty nice. Smell ok, but nothing special. Don’t really taste or smell much hops. Overall pretty average.
3.6 ( Swing top Bottle) Nice nose that’s both malty and aromaticly hoppy with perfume vibes. Not the type of beer to dissect , its just an easy to swill brown lager with nice qualities ; a rich , buttery roasty chocolate and caramel ,slightly floral hop notes. A bit salty on the bitter finish.
3.3 Hazy dark reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and a little fruit. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and light bitter finish. 170407
3.6 Ruby-red colour. Also a bit fruity in the taste which fits the colour. Nice and hoppy.
3.4 Same bottle as pictured. Poured dark brown with small head. Aroma is of cherry and dark fruits. Taste is the same. Be careful when you pour as there may be a little yeast at the bottom of the bottle.
3.6 Very nice, pours a dark reddish colour, with a nice head, aroma of cherrys and plum. it had a nice finish with a mix of fruitynotes, malty and a bit yeast as well, interesting beer. Would have again
2.9 Bottle. Deep bronze, beuige head, slightly cloudy. Fruity, estery, roasted malts, tropical fruits, hops. Medium body, dry, medium bitter. Fruity, estery, yeasty taste, roasted malts, some cardboard (too old?). (2010-11-28)
1.8 I think it was an old bottle, very low carbonation taste of cocoa and walnuts.
3.2 33cl bottle from the brewery. Nice ruby colour. Lots of head. A nice with with a nice aftertaste
3.8 caramel aroma, slightly bitter smell. caramel, chocolate, nuts, roasty, not a lot of bitternes, warmth in the belly, nice beer
3.4 33cl bottle, hazy dark amber color, medium collapsing brownish head, malt and liquorice aroma with roasted, nuts and raisins notes, balanced sweet flavor, medium body, dry bitter finish with more roasted and hops character, better than expected
3.9 Very woody aroma, with nutty walnut overtones. Clear garnet, thin head. Lots of walnut flavor. Medium body, alcohol not noticeable. Drinks like a Sam Adams Utopia, but sessionable. Quite a pleasant surprise. A good example of what viennas and all lagers can be.
2.8 Bottle. Amber, hazy, average fully diminishing light brown head. Light to moderate sweetish malty aroma, some caramel. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel with faint bitterness. Finish is short to average, malty and sweetish. Malty and sweetish Münchener – not very interesting.
3.2 Pours a nice looking red-brown with a decent sized, off-white head that I really had to work for... Nose is soft, sweet: cherry, vanilla, liquorice, gummy candy, fruitiness and caramel. Really no noticeable hop character, quite brandy-like though not as boozy. In the mouth is initially cherry, melting into sweet malt, swedish fish and a touch of bubblegum with some vanilla on the swallow and lingering candy. Smooth and quite refreshing, though a bit sweet.
3.4 Sleightly hazy brown with a thin baige head. Aroma is a little fruity but mainly malty where caramel and bread comes to mind. Even more fruity flavor but again with a heavy malt character giving roasted grain, caramel and in the end there is a sleight herbal bitterness.
3.3 Bottled. an amber beer with a frothy beige head. Aroma is fruity and malty, some caramel notes. Taste is malty and nutty, caramel notes. Bitter finish
3.0 29th March 2006 Warning! Early amateur rating! Soft and medium sweet beer. Juicy malt with a dry finish. Not bad!
3.2 Bottle @ home. After cleaning up from the gusher this poured with a slight murky brownish red, large tanned head. Aroma is very malty with some fruity and/or wine. Flavour is quite full and sweet with malt, caramel, spices. Some bitterness in the finish. Plus something weird I can’t place.
3.5 Bought this 2 Litres jug with flip-top a couple of Christmas’ ago and cellared it. Pours a ruby-amber colour with an nice beige creamy head that has good retention. Mildly carbonated and lacing is left behind. Beautiful nose with fruits (on the red apple side), nut, brown sugar and darker malts. OK, maybe it was more than a couple of years... as I taste a little sourness (which I assume is not usually there). Other than that, same stuff found in the aromas. Nice hazelnut finish. As always, I do like these Christoffel brews (but with a big bottle like these, you have to find the time for it). Unfortunately, I took too long.
3.4 Bottle. Average sized, quickly diminishing, brown foamy head. Very strong caramel-toasty aroma. Tastes balanced with a slightly roasted bitter finish. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated.
3.1 33cl, Dutch brewery, from Bier-winkel Oudehaske, complex brew, not balanced, clear, small head, nice brew
2.8 330ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, caramel, and some honey. Poured copper/brown/ruby in color with a tiny, tan head that disappeared quickly except for around the edges. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, caramel, and honey. Medium body. Thin, slick texture. Soft carbonation. Malt, caramel, and honey finish. Very one-dimensional.
