About 150 years ago, this dark style lager was first brewed in Munich, Germany. Our version is fairly dark in color, but don’t be afraid. It is a perfect example that dark beers are not always strong beers. The body is surprisingly mellow, and the alcohol content is a bit lower than most people might think. It has a wonderfully clean and roasty aroma. Hop bitterness levels are kept in line, but is has a noticeable hop flavor. Our Pious Monk Dunkel finishes crisp and clean as a lager should.

3.8Sampled at the brewery. Clear amberish. Grainy and bready with a nice fruity blast. Complex. A hint of cherry from somewhere. Earth is big. Quite nice.
2.1Pours a medium dark brown with and off white head. Very thin body with not much flavor at all. Rather plain and simple. Not bad but not good enough to remarkable.
3.0Tap @ brewery. Hazy light brown with cream head and light lacing. Getting a lot of citric-ness in the nose. Not really my style but not actively bad.
2.3Chestnut-brown pour, small off-white head. Aroma is nutty with floral undertones. Taste follows. Thin, shallow and empty.
3.0Draught @ Church Brew Works, Pittsburgh, PA
Pours clear amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, bread and floral. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, grainy, floral and grassy finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.
3.4On tap at the brewpub. A clear, brown beer topped by a dense, beige, finger thick head leaving lacing. Malty aroma with bread, some caramel and hints of pine cones. Mostly malty flavor too, rather dry, and with a decent bitterness. Some pine cones and grass too. Medium body and a nice carbonation level. Lovely bitterness in the finish. 150617
3.2On tap, dark brown, thin head, aroma and flavor is malty caramel and some nutshell, medium finish
2.8Drank at Church Brew Works. Nice brown, slightly golden clear color. Aroma and is sour with a bit of roastiness. Taste was slightly sour.
3.6on tap at the brewpub; a smooth, clean dunkel lager; brown color; smooth, malty flavor with caramel notes
3.1On tap. Dark cooper color with one finger head. Malty aroma. Sweet malt taste. Decent dark beer.
2.9On tap at the brewpub. Pours clear amber with medium off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium/light body, and low carbonation. Tate is simple caramel malt.
3.0Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with minimal white head. Aroma is pilsner malt, little bit of sweetness, no hop character. Taste is bready, malty, even a bit yeasty. Not my favorite, but not that bad.
3.5Gift growler from the Kuba family - thanks! A thin and overly carmelized version of a local dunkel. Runs to the thin side on body and taste.
3.6Solid Dunkel; but nothing stands out that would make me buy again really. One nice aspect is that it has a fuller mouthfeel than most in the style.
3.8Love this beer. Great taste, aroma and appearance weather it's from the bottle or from the tap
3.1Toffee brown colored pour. Small off-white head. Some lacing left behind its quick demise. Malty aroma with some notes of roast and sulphur. Bitter taste, almost tart. Not fitting at all for the style. Some sweet malt notes buried under it. Not bad.
4.2quite a nice brew and compares favorably with many recent craft creations. Although the pour is poor, the taste makes up for that with quite a favorable taste and unique. Would recommend strongly.
3.2Pours mildly cloudy golden copper color with a light tan head. The head fades to a thin cap on top of the liquid. Notes of banana bread right after the poor. Once it settles, more prune is noted. It is like the dark fruit notes that come through in a lot of British brown ales. A somewhat creamy mouthfeel with a little carbonation being expressed late. Muffled flavors of ripe banana and some sweet and tangy. A bit of stale bitterness emerges at the finish.
3.1On tap at World Beer Festival in Cleveland. Not my favorite, light easy to drink lager.
3.0Draft. Good color for style. Decent malt taste, but seemed a little more watery than other dunkels I?ve had, which is probably because of the lower ABV they?re trying to hit. For a session beer has a very good taste though. Give it a try if you?re looking for an easy drinking beer without getting wasted and aren?t a fan of hops, but want something more substantial than a light lager.
3.1Draft. Dark copper with little head. Nose is lightly floral. Taste is nutty, bready with a salty kind of finish. Strangely like tostitos but in a good way.
3.5Split a 12 oz bottle with friends. Poured a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some notes of roasted malts, some sweetness, touch of light chocolate. Flavor was a nice earthy hop character with some roasted malts, sweetness. Pretty easy to drink. Enjoyable.
3.3Amber brown in color... Aroma of biscuity malts... Flavor is sweet breads malts, rich for a lager like you'd expect... Decent
3.3Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of toasted malts and raisin. The taste is raisins, caramel, stone fruits. Medium bodied.
3.5Solid dunkle, nice creamy dark flavor and good body for a lager. Good for style. Not overly sweet like some dunkel a can be. Pretty spot on and great in quantities.
3.2Draft. Poured a muddy amber brown with a medium-sized tan head that left some lacing. Aroma and flavor were roasty malt, a bit of nuttiness, some caramel, toffee, molasses. Body was a bit thin. Pretty solid dunkel, just not as complex as others I’ve tried.
3.6This is a nice example of a dunkel. Good Pittsburgh brew. Would like to know more by them. Dark malt, medium hop, pine and caramel sweetness to it.
4.1Clear, light brown. Light, nutty nose. Clean, sessionable palate with a subtle malt and nut character. Delicious! Could drink this all day!
3.1Our servers favorite but I was underwhelmed, nothing really to say aobu tthe beer, its a basic dubbel.. malty and sweet.. light body easy finish.
3.8On Draft .. last stop of the day- Church Brew Works brewpub; Pittsburgh,PA .. pours a mud brown .. medium head, lacing is cutco .. . deep syrup and simple molasses .. . quick finish
