3.8Pours a deep, opaque brown with some ruby red in it. Light bubbling along the glass. Beige 1-finger head. Coffee aroma with a touch of a creamy note. Body is medium-to-full with a bit of oil to it. Long finish with a touch of astringency. Flavor of coffee with a touch of creaminess. Mild note of hte cocoa underneath.
3.6Can from Mr. Hop. Aroma is beany coffee with dark malt, caramel, espresso, mocha, roast, cold coffee. Flavour is light sweet and mildly bitter, body is medium. Nice Coffee Brown.
3.7Good Brown ale, I was expecting a stout for some reason. Still good as cigar city usually is
2.8Not an everyday brew
3.9Pours translucent sepia with a thick and rather fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma yields quality coffee, roast malt, woody and spice hints. Flavor delivers roast malt, quality coffee, sweetness, a little spice, a hint of woody hops. Texture presents peppy fizz and smooth, fairly firm body. Do it Cubano style.
4.2Strong on espresso aroma, chocolaty and nutty. Totally malt forward with hops not noticeable.
Dark brown, translucent, moderately carbonated, medium beige head, with excellent retention and minor laces.
Tastes moderately sweet, with roasty notes, nutty, chocolatey and with loads of coffee, Maillard products. Minor caramel, especially towards the end. Hops are minor, with a minor bittering-herbal character. Caramel closes the door, and lasts in the after-taste.
Light body, but smooth and creamy. Low-medium carbonation.
Packed with flavours, roasty, caramelly, coffeeish. Excellent after a meal. Great brew.
3.6Can. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Espresso, roasted malt, lactose, caramel. Nice.
4.2Pours a pretty much opaque brown, thin tab head. Nose is wood, nuttiness, some leather and coffee grounds. A rich maltiness, a pinch of chocolate. Extremely clean taste and feel.... Very complex for the style and abv. Outstanding version of a style that can be lazy and one dimensional.
3.412 oz can, pours brownish ruby red with tan head. Light (bit watery) to medium body. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Strong coffee, burnt malt and milk chocolate taste, straightforward. Some pepper notes in the malty finish.
3.6Pours a deep amber color with a creamy tan head. Aromas of roasted coffee and caramel with a hint of chocolate. Very rich and malty with flavors of espresso, roasted malts and lactose. Big and bold with an underlying sweetness and a slightly bitter finish. A nice coffee upgrade on an already stellar brown ale.
4.1Can (9/10/20) from The Lazy Dog Beer Shoppe. Appearance is hazy dark brown/ruby red with light sparkle, finger-width khaki head with poor retention and mild soapy lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee and chocolate with mild bitterness. Taste is strong roasted malt and coffee (slightly burnt) with chocolate--a perfect chocolate-covered espresso bean! Chicory flavor comes through as well. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with thin, creamy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, it does exactly what it sets out to do and does it well.!
3.6Dark brown pour, two finger head. It has a toasty caramel malt aroma. It has a sweet, robust caramel malt flavor with coffee and some mild hop bitterness. Very tasty.
3.835.5cl can at home, bought at Just in Beer. Appearance: dark brown with a medium to big beige head. Aroma: dark roast coffee and coffee grounds, peppery, slight vanilla. Taste: moderate sweetness and fairly high bitterness. Mainly coffee and coffee grounds, with some peppery notes, rye, some licorice root. Palate: medium bodied, watery to oily texture and soft carbonation. Overall: pretty good! even though the body is not too strong, it is perfect for this style.
3.7Sample from can at Logitech Bierproeverij 4. Color: Murky brown, beige head. Aroma: Espresso, coffee bean. Taste: Dry, Espresso, vanilla and cocoa notes. Milky, smooth mouthfeel, over medium body and below average carbonation. Better aroma than taste. Ok.
3.533cl blik. Helder donker bruin van kleur, fijne romige licht bruine schuimkraag. De geur is koffie en chocolade. Smaak is zoet, koffie, chocolade en karamel.
3.9Chicory, coffee, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Dark brown with large brown head. Moderately sweet coffee chocolate malt, and mildly bitter chicory, coffee grounds, and hay aroma. Good body. Very tasty - strong chicory presence.
3.6Jan 1 2020:
On tap St Augustine’s in Vancouver. The light in St Aug’s is mercifully dim, wink 😉, but looks to be a blackish beer with a pale head..
A quick whiff of the top of the 5 oz jigger plainly reveals its cafe espresso history, and a cautious sip consists mainly of cocoa. Further sips show a nice balance of coffee and cocoa, tending more toward cocoa. Very seasonal for January, but contrary to the popular opinion of ratebeerians, it’d take something more to make this beer complex, and I’m not finding it. No doubt my lack! 😉
3.8Poured from the tap. Dark brown with beige head. Very nice espresso with mild vanilla and toasted malt. Very good.
3.8Alluring caramel coffee aroma in a brown-black pour. Milky malt body has hints of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Their Maduro made even better.
3.7On tap at Bishops Uppsala. Clear brown with off white head. Beautiful espresso notes, deep mocca with a clean and nice brown ale behind it
3.8Pours a deep brown with a minimal beige head. The aroma isn't flashy, but its solid. Heavy coffee, moderate roasted malt, and hints of chocolate. The taste is very similar to the nose. Potent coffee naturally, along with roasted malt, chocolate, and easy caramel. The aftertaste is a long and strong coffee. Medium bodied. I found the coffee here very tasty, and its also pretty refreshing as well.
3.9can @ Party Twon / Florence KY --- canned 09/04/19 --- Aroma of toasted malt and black coffee. Nearly clear brown-black color, deep tan head that stops at one finger, lace bands. Taste is toasted malt that moves smoothly through light carbonation to coffee, milk chocolate, and very minimal bittering. Well-balanced, smooth, light in the belly. Recommended.
3.4Aroma is not very strong, I wanted more espresso. Nice dark brown color. Very light taste and palate, brown ale characteristics with a bit of light coffee.
3.8355 ml can, shared by my son Steinar. ABV is 5.5%. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of coffee and brown malts, also notes of chocolate, hints of vanilla. Slightly sweet flavour with the same ingredients, smooth and pleasant to drink.
3.7Dark Amber with small head and clear. Nose is very rich coffee and some cocoa notes. Taste is also coffee and cocoa but with a flat character. Palate short and diminishing but agreable.
3.5Poured from can into a pint shaker glass. Pours dark murky brown with medium khaki head. Good lace retention. Coffee on the nose, some malts, nothing out of the ordinary. Full mouthfeel, creamy. Taste of coffee, malts, lactose, raisins and figs, but dominated by coffee. Sweet at first then a bitter coffee aftertaste that lingers. Aftertaste turns a bit sour after the beer is finished. Overall a good coffee forward brown ale.
3.8Can from Systembolaget. Smell is a kind of musty dark malty coffee. Not enamoured. Dark black exterior colour and brown interior. Really excellent coffee taste. Very roasted. Good effort. Easy finishing. Impressed.
4.0Burk. Riktigt bra och välbalanserad brown ale. Här finns en liten rökighet, här finns choklad och kaffe och här finns en uppfriskande humlighet.
4.0The creamiest and thickest brown ale I've encountered. A nice sweet beer (the lactose and cacao overpower the espresso bitterness). From the 9-19-2018 canning.
