Cigar City Cucumber Saison

Cigar City Cucumber Saison

The humble gherkin. Usually we encounter this unassuming green fruit pickled or sliced and flung atop a salad. But the cucumber has so much more to offer us. It is a remarkably refreshing gourd with the power to cool a dry tongue and when just two sliced wheels are placed atop the eyes of a lounging lass in a stock photo ad for a spa the mythical cucumber has the magical ability to justify obscene spa service fees. Truly an amazing botanical gift to the world. We chose to employ the cucumber in a low gravity Saison to create a refreshing seasonal ale redolent with notes of honey, tropical fruit, lemon bitterness, and of course cucumbers. Brewed as a survival tool for the Florida Summer this cucumber creation features Citra and Sorachi Ace hops. So put some cucumber wheels on your eyes, lean back, relax and enjoy. Ahhhhhhh.

4.0 Bottle. Pours a clear golden orange with a mostly fading white bubbly head. Earthy aroma, hint of spice, vegetables, cucumber. Taste is of citrus, followed by a burst of the cucumber and some spice. Really crisp and refreshing. Watery to oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Gorgeous.
3.9 bottle. hazy golden with one finger head. i’m somewhat indifferent when it comes to cucumbers. somehow they’ve managed to really get a lot of cucumber flavor into this beer. that’s pretty impressive considering how flavorless the average cucumber is. light body with a light hop kick in the finish. it’s pretty simple on the palate, but I really dig the flavors.
3.6 On tap. Pours a fairly clear yellow with a stark white head. Smells like a cucumber salad - vegetable, vinegar, some fresh green herbs. Taste is similar - almost like drinking the rice wine vinegar left over from a food Asian cucumber salad. Don’t go into it looking for some strange take on a cucumber ale - it tells you exactly what it’s going to taste like, and does.
3.8 Bottle. Cloudy apricot with one finger of fuzzy, sticky white. Pure cucumber in the nose. Funk mixes with the stuff almost to pickle levels. Pear, funk, white pepper, dill. Weird flavor. Up front, cucumber mixes with pear, pepper and crackers. The swallow is dry and mildly bitter. Touch of funk. Refreshing as shit. Light body with high nudges of carbonation. Again, quite refreshing. Zips off the palate with every sip. Smells more like pickles, tastes more like cucumber. Tasty; refreshing; unique. Love the flavor blend. If this were in a can, there might not be any better hot weather beer.
3.4 Pours a slightly hazy gold to light amber. Aromas of cucumber(obviously), spice and citrus - slight hints of funky must. Faint honey sweetness followed by the unusual cucumber flavor finishing with intermingled spices. High carbonation on the palate with a light crisp body. Different but refreshing Saison.
2.6 Fölur, hálftær. Ilmar af súrum gúrkum, ekki óþægilega. Bragðið er það sama en talsvert sterkara. Eiginlega ekki hægt.
4.0 Hazy orange pour with off-white head. Cucumber Flavored Beer.... Earthy Great for summer!!! Not Joking light body. dry finish.
3.6 Certainly hits the target. Nose is heavy cuke. Taste is heavier cuke with hints of a grainy saison backbone. Not something I can drink much of but it definitely has a solid idea behind it and lands well within flavor expectations.
3.6 Big bottle, probably 750 ml. Cloudy wheat yellow. Smells exactly like what cucumber bread would, if that is a thing. Some others sampling thought the was a pickle taste, but I thought is stayed true to cucumber and maybe some wild yeast funk. Smooth body. Unique. On a personal note, my first Confederate rating.
2.4 Pours a mildly murky golden color with migrating carbonation bubbles from the bottom of the glass. A large sudsy, bumpy, off-white head forms and retains well. Earthy notes, Belgian yeast, and cucumber are noted in the nose.it has a rather lively mouth feel. Cucumber flavor comes through prominently followed by a scorched flavor.
3.5 650 ml bottle A very strange concoction lives up to the description on the label. Having had a few cucumber based beers I knew roughly what to expect. Even so this particular release carves out a very unique niche in the beer ecosystem. As long as nobody tries to make a cucumber imperial stout or cucumber sour I am fine with the occasional oddity. Aroma / Appearance - A strong clear golden base shimmers with a rich vanilla head as company. Smelling like a glass full of garden salad, the aroma wafts up like the smell of a garden just after the morning dew melts away. Flavor / Palate - Cucumber, trampled grass, and garden salad tickle the tongue before a splash of alcohol emerges. Refreshing from start to finish, the flavor profile confuses the palate. It would be interesting to pair this with something earthy to see how it changes the experience.
4.1 Straight out this is a bizarre beer. Pint bottle from local liquor store orlando. Pours bubbly yellow with white foam head. Aroma is cucumber, yeast, spice, fucking cucumber. Flavour is yeast, sweet with massive cucumber finish. Light body as you’d expect for a saison but has a lot of flavour. Lots of carbonation which heightens the cucumber hit. I’m not sure I like it but it is what it says on the tin. Wow
3.5 Bottle from unknown in trade. Pours a deep and slightly hazy, if luminous orange. Little bit of white head. Aroma cucumber, slight citrus bite, maybe a hint of barnyard funk as well. Body lively and slightly dry with a well-balanced effervescent finish. It is what it says it is, and has a pleasantly refreshing character. Probably wouldn’t seek this out, but nice enough to drink.
1.1 Poured from bottle to glass. Hazy straw hue with fizzy white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is vegetal, cucumber, straw, peppercorn. Mouthfeel is decent with a medium light body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry eith a strong vegetal presence and sulphur finish. Overall this brew is horrible. I drain poured it.
2.5 Had this at the 2014 RB Pittsburgh Summer Gathering at Horny Devel’s place. Actually it was after the equinox at the beginning of fall, but DILLIGAF. Big thanks to James & Michelle for hosting such a nice spread of quality beers and for this particular beer a GIANT thanks goes out to artmcd8. Some cucumber in the nose. And now its getting stronger my nose says. Look is typical pale ale. Good cutting co2. Taste is sooooo cucumber fer sure. Like a cuke salad with no vinegar. Not bad but probably could not handle more than a half bottle of this. But hey, lets drink some cucumber smoothy. Not overwhelming but make no mistake, if you hate cukes, don’t go after this one.
3.3 Bottle shared at a private tasting. Pours a hazy lemon with a medium sized fizzy white head. Poor head retention. Aroma of dill pickles, fresh cucumber, pale buttery malt. The taste is spicy dill pickles, fresh cucumber, pale malt. Medium bodied, lingering spice. Interesting, but not terribly drinkable.
2.7 From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from a 750mL bottle. Pours clear golden with a thick white head that leaves average lace. The nose is cucumber with just a touch of spicy saison yeast. The flavor has a sweeter malt than I would like with the cucumber dominating and then just a touch of yeast again. The body is medium with very lively carbonation and a long sweet cucumber finish.
2.9 Bottle: Thanks, Chris. Semi-clear golden body with streams of bubbles heading upwards. Chunky, lasting off-white head. Aroma dominated by cucumber. Smells like a cucumber salad. A touch of musty cotton buried beneath it. Tastes like cucumber water. All cucumber, vegetal with some faint graininess & musty yeast. But mostly just cucumber. I mean, I like cucumber, of course... But this is a little too much. Tastes like liquified cucumber. I’m not trying to drink my veggies, here. Decent if you dig the salad vibe.
3.4 Heavy cucumber salad smell with a bit of bacterial offness in the back. Cucumber beer taste. High carbonation.
3.7 Bottle at home. Pours lightly hazy yellow with a large, frothy white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is fresh cucumber, light black pepper, earthy hops and wheat malt. Flavor is fresh cucumber, light earthy spices, wheat malt and earthy hops, light bitterness and a dry finish. Light body, moderate carbonation and very refreshing.
3.0 ivorywhite head leaves no lacing. darkyellow colour. aroma is aspargus, cucumber, brocolli. taste like aroma pickles, dilll. medium body and carbonation. special for sure, but not my thing. bottle 75cl
2.9 Pale hazy yellow appearance. Aroma of cucumber for sure. Flavor was cucumber, but in a pickle sort of way. This was the dominant flavor. Very interesting.
3.5 Sample at first sunday. Broken out late in the day and worked really well as a palate cleanser. Lots of cuke, refreshing and clean. The fruit is pretty dominant but just what I needed at the time.
3.0 large bottle poured cloudy with a durable off-white head. Both the aroma and the flavor feature cucumber flavor, although it unfortunately comes across as past its prime. Nice mix of sweet, tart and bitter components until the aftertaste which is a tad overly bitter.
3.4 Pours a light straw hazy color with a white head. Cucumber and saison yeast aroma. Flavor matches. I normally don’t like cucumbers but this was a nice suprise.
3.3 Pours a hazy golden with a big fluffy head. Nose is cucumber, lemon, a lot like that cucumber salad with vinegar and onion, maybe a bit of Belgian yeast. Tastes like cucumber salad, has that vinegar acid note, cucumber, citrus. Pretty high carb, lively. It's ok, but tastes too much like straight cucumber salad for me to like it I think. Needs complexity and earthyness.
4.4 Pours white cloudy lemon with a nice off white head. Aroma brings big refreshing and lightly sweet cucumbers and the saison yeast under it. The flavor brings huge juicy refreshing cucumber notes so nice and replenishing on a hot summer day. The saison yeast is in the background but enough there to be noticed.
3.9 22oz bottle thanks to Darrel. Pours out a cloudy pale straw topped with a white head. Nose is tons of cucumber saison yeast and spice. Taste is as the nose with lots of cucumber and spice. Very good.
4.0 Thanks to fritz123 for this. Poured a light hazy golden color with almost no head. Huge aroma of garden cucumbers with a nice earthiness to it. Cucumber dominates the nose and the palate. I love this beer.
3.8 Bottle at home. Pours yellowish with puffy big head. Nose is bursting of fresh cucumber. Tastes of lots of cucumber, some yeast, pepper, hay, and grass. Just a bit off odd vegetal aftertaste. Lively and refreshing though I’m a sucker for cucumber beverages though.
