4.3Bottle thanks to TheAlum. Thanks, bro! Pours an inky, thick as oil black with almost no head. Aromas of unimaginable amounts of roast, some spice and a hint of wood. I guess 2 years in the old rot box kind of dumbed down the cedar aging. Taste is an enormous amount of bitter chocolate, roasted malts and burnt down houses. So thick. The finish is longer and blacker than the black seducer. So. Much. Thickness.
3.9Bottle with thanks to juiceisloose! Pours deep opaque black with a small deep brown head and some lacing. Aroma is roasty, coffee, cocoa, and, what is that? Oh yeah cedar and woody notes. Interesting. Flavor is the same, little sweetness here, more roasty and woody with medium bitterness. Full body with a soft, silky mouthfeel. CCB really knows how to work the palate with their impys. Nice beer, but not earth shattering.
3.8HOly Cedar, Batman! poured like zhukov, pitch black and oily. nose was like smoking some salmon on cedar planks just a big chewy wood presence. taste was even bigger. I certainly would have to split t his one a few ways. So much cedar that it’s almost overwhelming but really refreshing overall. would love to get more of this.
3.9750ml bottle. Rating #266. Dark inky black color with the darkest brown head that I’ve ever seen. Big aromas, light anise, raisins and molasses and roasted malts. Dark chocolate bitterness, not much hop presence with a lot of coffee in the finish with a bit of ash in the exhale. (2856)
4.3Thick black pour, same dark tan head with red hues as other Zhukov variants. Nose is big cedar, roasted malts, sweet chocolate. Taste is the same, huge cedar. The cedar is much more prominent than in the other Humidor beers I’ve had. Smooth and sticky, medium-full bodied.
4.2Bottle from international trade; pitch black pour, thin brown head, big roasted malt aroma, taste has chocolate, smoke roasted malts, some sweetness.
4.2750 ml bottle shared by b3shine. Pours pitch black in color with a medium sized dark reddish tan head. The aroma was a wonderful blend of roasted malts, dark chocolate, cedar, tobacco, ash and a hint of dark fruits. The flavor has much of the same goodness presented with a silky smooth mouth feel and full body. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, cedar, tobacco, ash and some dark fruits. Top notch.
4.5Bottle shared by b3shine. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy dark tobacco wood, roasted coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma. Heavy toasted chocolate malt and dark tobacco flavor with a heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is one of the best standout beers.
4.4750ml bottle split with the wife. Pours deep dark amber with a milk chocolate head. Nose of massive chocolate, slight roast. Taste is slightly towards the sweet side o the scale. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate rounded out by a bit of wood. Body is thick and creamy. This beer is fuggin’ fantesicle. Forever ISO.
3.6Super earthy strong peppery spicy cedar nose, light acrid roast and espresso, dominated by cedar. Viscuous black pours, nice brown pour. Cedar pepper earth some tangy lactic tartness then roasted dark espresso, dark fruit. Dry finish with an acrid roast, cedar, and light tartness. Strong assertive beer.
4.5I dug out my Cigar City Humidor Imperial Stout, which I believe was the 2009 bottling. I’ve been looking forward to drinking this beer as a bottle of 2009 Marshall Zhukov was the best Imperial Stouts I’ve ever had and I was not disappointed. Outstanding port/sherry aged character, hefty malt sweetness, dark chocolate truffles, fig and date and a big rich mouthfeel are very uniquely complimented by the cedar aging time. The cedar is at once both sharp and slightly savory, keeping the sweetness in check and spinning a fantastic beer in a really unique direction. Just really blown away by how awesome this beer is, and I have to say it ties with my previous 2009 Marshall Zhukov experience as Best Imperial Stout.
4.0Tasted in 2009 (backlog). Opaque black appearance with a small brown head. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, cedar, leather, vanilla, tobacco. Taste is of dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and leather
3.8on draft, poured very dark brown with brown head...no lacing but like an oily texture. a big imperial stout with the aroma of roasted malts, chocolates, woody maybe oak. the flavor was again that oily type texture only seen in one other beer before but that was on purpose. but again you get the deep rich roasted malts, some chocolate, woody, sweet flavor with a backend bitterness that was very good. very good imperial stout.
4.0Bottle; Pour is murky dark brown with a fine bubbled dark khaki head in this glass - the nose is caramel and brown sugars, some fruit ester is present, there is a touch of spice, with some barrel treatment present. Yes, this feels like another cigar city brew to me thanks to the cedar treatment, i guess. The flavor profile presents more dark malts - caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cedar box wood, some smoke presents itself surprisingly. So I suppose the issue i find is that it’s a bit too cedar centric. Otherwise a fine attempt here
3.9Bottle 750ml.
Pours black with no head. Aroma is of vanilla, roasted malt, peppah. Taste is of roasted malt, oxydation, ashes, incense, pepper. Palate: Medium-full body. Overall: Pretty good, but weird spicy features and incense too.
4.1Bottle (750 ml) as Humidor Imperial Stout. Traded by Sean9689, thanks! Oily pitch black a dark head and reddish reflects. Aroma of cedar, chocolate, roasted malt, pepper, chile and tobacco. Taste is of roasted malt, pepper, chocolate and chile. Peppery finish. Medium to heavy body. Very good Imperial Stout. Good variation on Zhukov!
3.9Bottle. Dark black pour with thick dark brown head. Aroma of cedar, vanilla, chiles, black pepper, ash, roasted grain, cocoa nibs. Taste is peppery, roasty with a chocolate/chipotle finish. Oily palate with smooth carbonation. Pretty good imperial stout, a tad tannic to my liking.
3.6Pours a thick, dark, almost black with a head that was nearly purple at first, but settled into a nice, foamy cream. Strong aroma of chocolate, coffee, and licorice. These are also quite noticeable in the flavors, along with a rather pronounced woodsiness--I’m not really sure that aging this in cedar is such a good idea. The cedar doesn’t really enhance the stout characteristics.
2.9Bottle shared by Jeff at Greg’s thanks! Strong wood / cedar nose - dark black pour. Spicy vegetal taste with roasted coffee on the finish. Nice, but really strong wood notes.
3.8750ml bottle thanks Jason. Pour black oily with a thin tan head that fades. Aroma has soy wood peat and roasted malt. Taste is bitter soy wood and peat with slight sour plum and bakers chocolate. Palate is full rich and sticky with a dry finish.
3.2pours jet black with a dark mocha head. Aroma of Cedar, pretty much overpowers the beer. Taste follows, way too much cedar, really overpowering. I love Zhukov and i love the humidor beers but this one is too much
3.4Bottle:   Black, thin dark brown head, little lacing.   Holy fuck that is simply the strongest cedar nose, very fresh, its like somebody cut some decking right in front of me.   Strong cedar on the tongue, pale roastiness, a little over ripened fruit that adds a little sourness.   I sat on this for a while, so I wonder if the stout diminished and the cedar remained.   As is, probably one of the strongest cedar like beers I have had.   I feel a little mixed about it, very unique but the cedar dominates a bit too much.   Moderate stout, but a huge amount of cedar.   Entertaining, but too assertive and overshadows the underlying stout too much.   Damn...
4.5Tap at Cigar City. Snifter pour. Pitch black with a deep beige brown head. Beastly thick chocolate notes. Though quite smooth and creamy too, the alcohol doesn’t jump right out at you. Deep cocoa, chocolate milk notes. The mild cedar tones really complement the rich malts. Very chocolate centered, maybe a touch of vanilla, hint of tobacco. This is pretty much Imperial Stout heaven. World Class.
3.9Absolutely love the nose on this - All spicy, herbally and peppery. The woody notes are so enveloping. In the mouth the same flavours pervade and perhaps overawe the original beer. It’s one of those unique beers that whilst you never truly come to grips with it, it certainly leaves an impression.
3.6Pitch black color, dark brown color. Lots of cedar on top of dark chocolate, dark fruit, very hoppy. Alcohol well hidden. I felt the cedar clashed a bit with the imperial stout characteristics. Nice, but not taking me special.
4.0750 with Imperial Stout Humidor label that here becomes an alias. Huge black pour. Total chocolate. Big aroma. Slight tart taste. Oak, Wow.
3.2Bottle a while back. I don’t feel like getting (or even drinking) another bottle of this so I’m just gonna do some clarking. I really did not (or have not digged) dig the cedar aging that accompanied the Humidor Series. I understand the concept and to each his/her own, but it’s just not my thing. The cedar leaves a spicy, peppery stamp on the beer that will not come off. It overpowers it and ruins a fine, strong imperial stout in my opinion.
4.3Trade. Pours black with a medium dark brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, molasses, cedar, Flavor is chocolate, coffee, cedar, vanilla, roast, burned caramel. Oily texture. Nice lacings.
3.6Bottle at CCB Day, Sätila 2012-07-07. Black beer with a beigehead. Cedar, smokey, a bit dry, tar. roasted aroma. Burnt wood, sawdust, bitter, licorice, tar flavour with metallic notes.
3.7Black body with lasting brown head. Black malt, deep roast, dark fruit aromas. Full bodied with soft co2. Biitersweet dark chocolate flavors with dark fruits, deep roast, mild cedar, mild ash--very drinkable for such a big brew
