3.5 Bottle: Poured a orange copper with a white colored head. Aroma is light hops with fruit. Taste is a metallic hops with slight fruitiness finish.
3.8 As everyone else has said, very similar the the regular Jai Alai but with a touch sweeter body and smoothed out a bit. But still tons of bitter citrus hops and not so much papaya. Still a very good beer.
3.6 750mL bottle (though in some circles it’s considered a "dong"). Poured medium orange with a dense, well-retained beige head.. looked great in the glass! The aroma picked up a lovely bouquet of papaya, oranges, and pineapple over a primarily fruity base.. some vanilla and honey provided additional sweetness.. hints of leather and seeds on the back of the nose.. excellent nose, but it hinted at potentially being too sweet. The flavor found sweet honey, papaya, other fruits, plus some vanilla at the core.. mostly grapefruit and orange bitterness around, joined by more tropical fruity sweetness.. finished with a lot of papaya and vanilla.. tasty, but just too sweet. Medium-bodied with a fairly full feel on the palate.. higher carbonation.. too sweet and sugary for me, but otherwise really good.
3.3 750mL bottle. Orange color, almond colored foam. Tastes of an CCB IPA. Sweet malts, bitter hops of citrus rind and pine. Smells of hops, caramel malts. Finishes with a lingering sharp bitterness. No taste of papaya
3.6 Tap. Nose is slightly fruity with some tropical esters and citrus/pine notes from the hops. Poured a nice amber color with an off white head. Taste was slightly fruity but mainly overshadowed by the citrus/pine hoppiness. Good but could benefit from some more papaya.
3.9 Bottle pours a hazy amber with a thin white head. Scent is floral, big citrus and wood. Taste is citrus, pine and some tea.
4.0 Bottle courtesy of daknole. Pour is deep orange with an off-white head. Aroma shows notes of papaya, pine, mango, light florals, and pineapple. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of caramel and graham cracker. Overall body is moderate, sticky, somewhat sweet, and finishes with a nicely balanced bitterness.
4.5 Pour is powdery golden color with an off white head. Nice amount of carbonation. All the usual smells on the nose, grassy, lemon, caramel malt, and only a hint of papaya. Medium mouth feel. A very nicely made ipa, and the papaya gives it a nice peppery dimension. Just enough sweetness that’s not over powering. Awesome summer brew. Enjoyability 4/5.
3.6 Bottle; pour is murky golden with an average off white head that retains quite well in this glass. This brew has this prototypical malt character courtesy of cigar city. The hop profile is fairly muted, and the tropical papaya is barely present. The flavor profile is lightly bitter, florals, and pine, caramel sweetness, earth, and papaya. Its not bad.
3.6 750 ml bottlee that pours a dark orange with aromas of hops, grapefruit and papaya. Flavors match the aroma but not much hops come through a nice balance of hops and papaya flavors.
3.6 (750ml bottle courtesy of markwise. Thanks mark!). Pours a beautiful clear dark orange color with off-white color. Aroma has caramel malts, papaya, florals and some pine. Taste is sweet with some bitterness to balance things out. Medium bodied with sticky texture. Bitter finish. An interesting IPA and pretty good.
3.5 Papaya isn’t really a dominant as I would like. I really love papaya. The finish is a little too bitter. Not a good hoppy bitter either.
3.6 Rich orange pour with a thick white head. Sweet, crackery aroma with some mild notes of fruitiness and just a hint of citrus hops. Taste is sweet up front like a pastry, but fades into a lightly bitter finish. There are some citrus and tropical flavors, but not really much papaya (granted, I’ve never actually had papaya). Overall pretty solid, but it tastes a lot like regular Jai Alai.
3.4 750ml bottle from 50belair. Clear amber/orange with a medium off white head. Aroma is very similar to Jai Alai, citrus and pine with a bit of tropical fruit and caramel. Flavor is sweet caramel and fruit with medium to low bitterness. Medium body with average carbonation and a syrupy mouth feel. I don’t really get any Papaya flavor or aroma in this, just Jai Alai with some extra sweetness.
3.6 Pours a hazy yet brilliant orange color topped by a thick, creamy, off-white head that leaves great lacing. The aroma is varied but not very fragrant, with light notes of honey, flowers, orange, and a dull pine characteristic. The flavor is likewise pleasant but not as exotic as hoped, with big doses of wood and pine being contrasted by a fruity sweetness that is more like canned peaches than like papaya. Because I know it’s there, I can force myself to taste the papaya, but it is not prominent. The texture is solid for an IPA, with a resinous body that lingers long after each swallow. Overall, this is a well-done IPA, but it is far more common than I was hoping.
3.7 Huge thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this beer. I love the Jai Alai series and look forward to drinking this beer. The beer pours and orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the papaya with some bready malt mixed in. I also get a little bit of toffee and caramel with some floral notes mixed in. The flavor has a lot of papaya and other citrus notes with some bread and toffee malt. The bitterness is fairly low and the flavor is all about the fruit. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.4 750 ml bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks, Dan! Pours a clear orange-amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of butter, caramel, grassy hops, melon, and papaya. Flavor of floral hops, tea, caramel, papaya, melon, and pineapple. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a fruity, tea-like mouthfeel and dry finish. Interesting IPA but I like more nose on them and the hops are relatively quiet.
0.5 Shared with Uncle Steve, Brian the Beer Pimp, CelticBrew and DrBayern the Modest. First, Homey don’t do Papaya or any other fruit. Expecially in mine beers! This was different. Poured a light copper color with a lacy head. The aroma was sweet and hoppy. The taste started out hoppy, then went sweet as the hop flavor disipated, almost malty. Very easy to drink. Nice aftertaste.
3.4 The Dan Journal #484. Tasted 6/28/11. 750ml capped bottle. Pours filtered with a dark golden hue. Layer of white head. Aromas of soggy malts and a nutty note. Medium bodied with soapy hops, caramel malts and a good astringency. Tart and tangy palate. A decent malt bill, but a little too acrid. It’s overtly bitter, but as it warms, it grows on me.
3.0 Bottle from secret santa. Thanks yo! Clear orange color with a small white head. Orange, caramel, and a slight hint of tropical fruit appear in the aroma. More malty than I had expected/hoped for. More maltiness in the taste, caramel, some pepper notes towards the finish, with some tropical fruit showing up as well near the end. Just too little tropical fruit presence in this, and had I not seen that it was the papaya ipa I would have never known it was in here. Nice medium body. Just didn’t
4.0 Aroma: great hop profile; lots of citrus and tropical fruits, mango and a hint of papaya, some resiny pine. Pours golden, slightly hazy, about 1/2" of head with good retention and lots of lacing. Flavor: sticky sweet, resiny hops, tropical fruit Firm bitterness, but the major focus is the hop and malt flavor, no astringent lingering bitterness. Bready and caramel malts nicely balance the hop flavor and bitterness. I didn’t detect the papaya right away, but as the beer warmed it definitely came through in just the right amount. Medium body and carbonation. Very interesting and tasty IPA.
4.0 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of roasted and caramel, moderate flowers for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with hints of date, wood, ripe fruit and booze. Head is small, wispy, off-white with virtually no lacing but good legs and is almost fully diminishing. Color is hazy, light orange/tan. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a soft to lively carbonation. Other than the bottle erupting slightly upon opening, this IPA scores big points from me.
3.0 Pours golden with a light white head. Aroma has i little bit of floral hops and fruits. Flavor was really lacking. A little sweet with hints of papaya and hops. Medium bodied. Not my favorite beer.
4.0 The mouthfeel is phenomenally smooth and smile inducing. Aroma is fruity, solid maltiness and a touch of alcohol. Well balanced beer that has a hop bite with a sweet maltiness blending together masterfully. The papaya is kind of in the background which I like very much, it’s there but in good moderation. You do not taste any alcohol in this one. Keep em coming.
3.9 From a trade with Maltzilla, Thanks Diego! Sweet smoothie papaya flavor, color is green honey. Flavor is light, sweet, juicy, very refreshing.
3.8 Bottle: Pours a clear deep bronze with a stringy-lacing from of white head. Nose has a fresh piny hop character with a touch of tropical fruit and light malty sweetness. Starts with a pretty good fullness and light toasted malty sweetness with light fruity papaya character and good juicy hop bitterness before a drier bittersweet finish. A pretty flavorful and unique IPA.
4.1 Bottle purchased at the brewery in Tampa. Pours an amber orange color with a pale cream white foam head. Good IPA aroma with citrus, caramel, and pine, with some definite hints of papaya. A touch of pineapple rather than Papaya. Has a sweet caramel taste with a nice rounded hop hit. Sticky through the finish. Papaya is only apparent on the finish where it moderates the bitterness and provides some smoothness. Exceptionally good. Reminds me of a DFH 90.
3.7 Lightly hazy orange color with a small, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus, light pine, and papaya. Taste of citrus, grass, pine, papaya, and grapefruit finish.
3.8 Bottle shared at Damico’s Philly Beer Week event. Pours an amber orange color with a soapy white foam head. Has an aroma of citrus, caramel, and pine, with some definite hints of papaya. Has a sweet caramel taste with a nice rounded hop hit. Sticky through the finish. Love how the papaya blends with the finish to give it that second layer of flavor.
3.1 Courtest of ericandersnavy. Clear amber color/ no head. Dry caramel, tropical fruit aromas. Medium bodied. Dry, bitter hoppy flavors with mild tropical fruits, on a weak malty base--ok
