Cigar City Puppy's Breath Robust Porter

Cigar City Puppy's Breath Robust Porter

Dark in color with a ruby hue with forward notes of chocolate and caramel and light toffee notes in the aroma. Flavor has big notes of bittersweet chocolate with notes of caramel and toffee and moderate hop bitterness and more caramel and toffee and slight hints of char. A big take on a classic style.

4.1 Tap @ Liquor Express - pours pitch with a tan head, settles beautifully, like a Guinness. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, and as it warms, red fruits. Very nice!
4.0 Draft at Liquor Express. Pours Coca Cola brown with an inch of khaki foam. This one takes a while to settle. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Big caramel malts on the nose. Lots of creamy caramel malt on the tongue. Very quaffable and easy to drink. Finished clean. Really nice one to session.
4.7 Pours coffee brown with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma features chocolate, roast malt, caramel, toffee and subtle molasses notes, more stout-like than porter-like. Flavor delivers semi-sweet chocolate, roast malt, charred hops, toffee, caramel and molasses notes. This is YUUUUUGE! Mouthfeel offers firm, viscous body and good fizz. Barkin’ good!
3.7 Black with a thick tan head. Sweet coco nose smooth and malty. Full bodied a bit silky with a dry finish
3.5 Almost black pour. Small tan head. No lacing. Roasted malt nose with hints of chocolate and molasses. Taste is dry malt sweetness, slight molasses, fig, and chocolate. A little thin.
4.1 22 ounce bottle purchased at the brewery. Pours a rich, opaque brown with a small tan head that lingers nicely. Aroma is roasty malt and dark chocolate. Taste follows the aroma, with a slight emphasis on the chocolate. Flavor opens up as the beer warms up. A solid porter
4.5 Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. The appearance is a black color with a very small brown head. The aroma is a simple mix of caramel and roasted malt, excellent smell. The taste matches the aroma. A very good porter.
3.9 22 oz bomber pours a black color with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, light caramel. Full bodied, an excellent porter.
3.9 Bottle thanks to Homer via Hoff! Pours near black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong dark grain note with roasted malts and a bit of bitter chocolate. Flavor has dry dark grains and roasted malts throughout with a bit of bitter chocolate underneath.
3.8 750ml bottle. 4/12/16 bottle date. Appearance: Black, opaque, with dark ruby tint and a moderate khaki head that dissipated quickly. Aroma: Dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate upfront, with a touch of toffee. Coffee and chocolate aromas are stronger than most in this style. Taste: Dark roasted malt dominates, with a strong coffee bean and dark chocolate flavor. Light caramel and toffee in the background. Bitterness is moderate, just enough to balance the maltiness. Mouthfeel: Medium body with light viscosity, and a low carbonation. Finish: Dry, with dark roast and chocolate prominent and touch of astringency. Overall: Good robust Porter, heavier on the roast/coffee character than most other versions. Thankfully, the roast character isn’t overly astringent. Caramel and toffee undertones balance out the sharp and bitter roast.
4.6 22oz bottle. Pours black with a small creamy brown head. Roasty aroma of chocolate and coffee. Mildly sweet with a heavy roasted chocolate malt character with a bit of caramel. Medium-to-full bodied with a roasted malt finish. Very good.
3.1 Bomber courtesy of tricyclist. Thanks. Bottles 04/13-16. Dark brown color with a small beige that recedes to a fine film. The aroma is very mild with sweet cocoa. The taste is weak cocoa, a bit of red fruits and some caramel. The palate is not as full as I prefer a porter and it finishes short and metallic. Overall: not my favorite. Edit: as I work my way through the bottle I keep detecting a sour note. Possibly this beer has the beginnings of an infection. Something is definitely off in this porter.
3.8 Bottle, dark cocoa color with perfect frothy tan head, lots of roast and earthy notes , somewhat bitter finish, reminds me of the maduro
3.9 Black color small white head. Aroma is smokey, roasted w/ some chocolate. Flavor is roasted coffee w/ some chocolate and caramel help to lend a bit of depth.
3.2 Tap @CCB Nitro. Dark brown color, creamy beige head. Light toasted aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Milky, toasted, licorice, sweetish flavor. Quite simple. Should try without nitro.

2.6 February 26, 2016. Bottle, shared by tkrjukoff, thanks! Black with a large brownish hrad. Aroma is green paprika, apple, slight earthy, light roasted, herbal, some sourish notes. Taste is light sweet, herbal and light roastiness with a slight green paprika, herbal finish with juniper, thyme, earth, hints of coffee. Medium bodied, soft to average carbonation.
3.0 Bomber courtesy of tkrjukoff. Pours hazy dark brown with a huge pale mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving some sticky lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with rustic dark bread, toasted malts, coffee, paprika and moist soil. Taste is very tiny sweet, tiny sour, tiny malty and malty. Mouthfeel is round, sparkling and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and tiny bitter with rustic sourdough bread, caramel, hay, moist soil, dark roast coffee, paprika, leather, hazelnut skins and moist soil. Defect but not infected (I think). Huge carbonation and fairly strange malt notes.
1.9 A: Pitch black with a huge light brown head! N: Coffee, caramel, tiramisu T: Coffee, green pepper. O: Very carbonated! Infected?
3.8 On nitro at Mad Mex in West Philly. Crimson brown with a creamy beige head. Nose is coffee, cocoa and caramel. Super silky with a soft tingle. Tastes like it smells; the roasty notes balancing the malty sweetness with nutty hints. Very quaffable.
3.9 On tap, pours deep dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is earthy, dark chocolate, roast and a hint of caramel. Taste is nice bitterness with a sweet finish. Medium bodied, a little sticky and overall fantastic porter.
3.6 Tap at cigar city, tampa. Black color, smooth white head. Aroma has roasty notes, coffee, some fruity notes. Smooth roasty body, coffee, vanilla notes, some hops at the end.
3.2 Not robust, but it is a nice porter. Low rating only because it said robust. Puppy’s breath is very cute name as it is a nice and friendly beer. Happy and good to come home to, but hopefully doesn’t pee on the floor. Slightly translucent black red. Aroma has barley and malt. Taste is calm with standard form. Nice mouth with felt/velvet feel. Nitro tap
3.6 Nitro tap - fair size creamy head, very dark Amber/brown color, good size roasty malt and chocolate aroma and flavor, fair hop balance, smooth nitro finish, very good porter overall
3.3 On nitro. Pours a dark brown with a silky smooth, tan head. Mild roasted aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Light notes of chocolate and dark roast in the favors. Nothing remarkable.
4.6 Dark dark brown pour. Aroma is near perfect. Clean roasted malt with a touch of nuts and chocolate. Taste is sweet version of nose with mild hitter finish.
3.5 12oz can at tasting. Brown black body. Sweet brown malt. Coffee aroma, taste. Toffee, sweet, sugary. Rather reminiscent of their brown ale.
