3.8 Bottle @ CBC. Pours hazy burnt orange with a light brown head. Aroma of malt, yeast, sourness, light vinegar, wood, fruity hops. Flavor is malt, yeast, light dusty, wood, vinegar notes, nicely balanced sour. Thin to medium body, lively carbonation, dry finish. 040513
3.7 Bottle @ home. Big time gusher. Hazy dark brown with a big and lasting beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, sour fruit, wood and notes of vinegar. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate acidic. Dry and moderate acidic finish. I would have liked to drink the other half myself instead of spending time cleaning it up in my kitchen. 260313
3.6 Sampled at a bottleshare. Nice oaky tart taste. Lightly sour. Little dark fruit taste. Some roast. Raisin. Hazy brown color. Nice light brown head. Bigger body. Light, soft, smooth carbonation. Nice chocolate, raisin, oak aftertaste. Very interesting, tasty stuff.
3.4 Aroma: Smelling of disinfectant (acetic acid, ethanol, ethyl acetate) and red vinegar. Appearance: A hazy brown beer, an off-white head leaving little lacing but good curtains. Taste: Some upfront pure sugar sweetness, then the acetic acid and some alcohol. Palate: Little carbonation, soft with small bubbles, a light dry finish. Overall: When I read the above it sounds much worse than it is, sour chemical nuances, but not really bad. Note: Bottle at De Klomp. Reviewed 2011-10-30.
2.9 Picked this up for takewaway at Rattle n’ Hum in NYC in July ’12. Enjoyed in a wine glass at 55F A - Poured a very dark amber, appears to be unfiltered and huge head even on a careful pour. Head was white with hints of brown S - Cherries and Oak with vinegar. Smells like a flanders red T - Big vinegar bomb, lots of oak and cherries and a hint of peaches. Has a stale..(oxidized?) cardboard taste at the finish. M - Medium carbonation, medium body O - I think this beer is past prime. too much cardboard and moldy oak taste.
3.5 750mL bottle, sent from LateStart (thanks Jordan), pours a deep dark amber with a voluminous beige head. Aroma of sour dark fruits, light vinegar, sort of a red wine quality – really complex. Flavour is very complex, with notes of soured dark fruits, a bit of a vinous quality, light vinegar and low acidity. Very complex and intensely carbonated – too carbonated I’d say to bring out the true complexity of this beer. Very enjoyable stuff, not too far off from Duchesse de Bourgogne, but way overcarbonated. Great stuff.
3.4 750ml bottle. Poured an amber/brown color with a huge sized off white head. Fruity, vinegar, some funkiness, and some caramel.
3.7 16th March 2011 Opaque dark brown beer, tiny pale tan head, short lived. Mildly sour nose. Crispy palate. Dark malts in the background play to a kind of Flemish style of sourness. Like Duchesse Du Bourgogne but toned down slightly and all the better for it. Smooth fruits and a touch of vinegar. Smooth finish.
3.0 thanks Gnosis for the nice extra!! bottle poured into a paper solo cup (lol) in my company lunch room....dark brown with a HUGE tan pillow like head. This one was a gusher, wow, didnt expect to see volcanic action. smell was sour, and so was the taste. It had a nice funk with some vinegar notes. slight maltiness, but vinegar was prominent
3.2 Pours a dark brown. Aroma of malts, sour, vinegar And funk. Taste is malty, vinegar and sweet malt. Not bad but not amazing.
3.9 0.75l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This one has a massive massive fluffy bubbly head on top of a near murky dark plum-red body. The aroma is light tart-sour with clear vinegar and wood. Some near chocolate thing blended with lingonberries and sweet red berries. Really nice! The flavor has cherries, red currants, blueberries, vinegar, sour gooseberries, dry lingonberies and red wine vinegar. What a specimen! Really tasty! 27.07.2012
3.4 Thanks to BeerBaby for this one! Pours clear very dark brown with garnet highlights. Very foamy tall, long-lasting off-white head. Tart, sour aroma. Balsamic vinaigrette and spoiled apples. The flavor is sour and acetic. I don’t care for the way the sourness finishes on the tongue. This needs a bit more malt sweetness to balance it out for my tastes.
3.7 Bottle 750ml @ ClubGonzo Pours cloudy deep amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, vinegar, acetone, caramel and fruits. Taste is light to medium sweet and meidum sour with a long sour, acetone, fruity and dry finish. Body is medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.
3.3 Bottle - RBAG - Thanks for the share Tony! Thanks for hosting as well! Pours deep murky tawny/brown, thick and persistent tan head, decent lacing. Nose is tart with winter fruit, brandy, cheese raisin. Flavours of tart raisin, funk, quite tart and very vinous, but just didn’t gel for me. A decent sour, but I wouldn’t go too far out of my way to snag a bottle for myself.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a beige head. aroma is hop, roasted malt, caramel. flavour is sourness, sugar, roasted malt, licorice, caramel, berries. Medium body. Nice beer.
3.7 Bottle, 75cl. A huge, light beige head forms over an unclear, dark amber body. Rather berry-sour aroma, with some roasted malts, a touch of caramel and some vinegar hints. Dry, effervescent and sourish on the palate. Really, really soft. Some caramel, but mostly sourish berries in the flavour. Vinegar hints too. Lasting finish. Tasteful, easy drinkable, but not overly complex. 120831
3.9 Bottle, shared at RBAG 2012 Summer Session. Lightly cloudy chestnut brown body with a fizzy off-white lively head. Aroma is musty barnyard, dark fruits, and lactic sourness. Palate is softly sour, balancing flavours of dark fruits with under-ripe berries. Nice lactic acidity, but a little gassy.
2.9 This was a major gusher, the head shot out of the bottle at least six inches. After pouring a very heady glass, the sour balsamic aroma was very noticable. Color is a deep burgundy with an off white head holding strong. Flavor is spur and dry malt, balsamic, and fresh purple onions. Sweet at first but with a dry aftertaste. I wish that it had not been infected because I was looking forward to a smooth Saison flavor.
4.3 Bottle at rattle n hum. Pours a dark brown. Aroma is funky, flavor is sweet and tart, with a lot of funk. I really loved this beer and think it is underrated.
3.4 RBAG Summer Session 2012. Pours unclear mahogany with a rough off white head. Aroma is bretty and a bit barnyard. Medium thin body and tart. Nice beer but VERY highly carbonated.
3.7 RBAG summer 2012. From a brown 750ml bottle. Brown pour, very cloudy, slighly milky pour from the bottom third of the bottle. Head was tight and creamy, tan coloured. Sour nose. Taste had caramel malt in the background, decent sourness up front. Tangy in the finish, dry quenching end. Interesting dark sour.
3.2 Pours dark coppery bronze with a gigantic head. Sour and tart on the nose, horse sweat and dried hay. Taste is tart and sour-vinegary. Some hints of the flemish red style. Medoum body with loads od carbonation.
3.6 750ml courtesy of Boutip. Huge gusher all over the table and had to pour it into 2 glasses before it eventually settled. Hazy brown with a light brown head that settles to a thin film. Malty with some light funk and sour, bit of cherry and other overipe fruit. Low carbonation (maybe it all burst out when the bottle opened up) with a moderate body, slightly tangy malt on the palate, get a mild bite on the finish along with more malt, bit of funk and tasty.
3.8 750ml bottle from beerlando. Big pop and started foaming out of the bottle, but not too bad. Pours dirty brown with a huge, foamy light tan head. Aroma is earthy funk, cherry, vinegar, and some dark fruit. Flavor is tart and sour with some light fruit and some caramel malt. Medium body with active carbonation and a dry mouth feel. This is a really nice beer, it has a lot going on but it all comes together well.
2.8 Whooops. Gusher....(Shrubber took the brunt of it’s force...thanks, buddy!) Cloudy, woody brown underneath the carpet of dark, solid foam. Scent is barnyard-funky...sour..vinegar. Taste is harsh sour overripe fruit. Not a huge fan of this one. I am, however, happy to report I detected no ACTUAL bass in the tasting.
3.5 Bomber (huge gusher). Musty lemon and sour malt aroma. Cloudy orange-brown color with huge head. Sweet-sour musty prune, straw, and light malt aroma. Mild acetic finish. Funky and different.
3.1 Bottle.Gusher which took quite some time to settle down, Musty, sour barnyard aroma. Hazy brown with a huge tan head. Funky sour fruit, wet straw/grassy bitter flavor. Medium body, dry finish.
4.0 I guess I ought to re-review this beer. Had it too many times at CCB, but this one is reviewed from a bottle bought at Delirium Hoppyloft Brussels. Light gusher.
3.6 Pours ruby red with a tan head. Smells of red wine, oak, some hints of sour cherries. Tastes of oak, some sour hints, dry, some cherries, some residual sugar on the finish.
