Cigar City Warmer Winter Winter Warmer

Cigar City Warmer Winter Winter Warmer

We mashed up traditional English-style barley wine-style and old ale winter warmer-style ales with citrusy American hops like Simcoe, Centennial, Columbus, Chinook, Amarillo and, fittingly, Glacier, to create a Floridian Winter Ale.

3.5 7 3 7 3 15 Bottle shared at THT May (My leaving The Hague edition). Clear dark amber with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, malt, overripe dark fruits, raisins and some grassy hop notes. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.
3.4 Bottle shared at Kermis’ last THT. Clear deep amber with off white head. Raisins, sweet malts, lots of caramel, light herbs and bread, toffee, soft alcohol. Quite sweet and bitter. Full bodied. OK.
3.3 At tht. Aroma of malt, raisin, caramel and dust. Taste of ripe fruit, raisin, malt and caramel. Bit too simple
3.8 20-APR-2018, bottle @Ulkløbben meeting, @Sonni. Hazy amber with a low off-white head. Sweet, malty, caramel, bread, fruit. Solid Barley Wine.
4.0 Towards the end of 2-weeks of record low temperatures, so decided to crack this open on a COLD 30 degree FL winter evening. I have been trying to save this for a little longer since I missed out on opening it during the holidays...but figured no time better than the present. Anyways, back to the review. This reminded me of a hybrid beer, sort of like a cross between a belgian strong, brown/red ale, and a DIPA. It poured a dark amber color. Kind of semi-clear in the beginning, but towards the end of the bottle got cloudy cause of the sediment I guess. The flavor were mostly sweet...malty and sugary. Seems like there is almost too much brown sugar up front in this one. Little bit of roast/smokey flavors.....from the humidors perhaps? The finish has a nice citrusy hop flavor, which resembles many IPAs. Also reminded me of the hops used in their Humidor Ale. This was probably my favorite characteristic of this beer. Didn't blow me away, probably not worth the price, but overall a decent brew. I also don't mind supporting a local quality brewer and trying something new, versus saving a buck for a "bread and butter" West Coast beer.
3.8 Bottle from Beergium. 2015-2016. Very dark, almost black beer with some ruby twist. Head is nice, beige and quite stable. Aroma has dried fruits, raisins, caramel, vanilla and bread. Taste has fruits (raisins, plums), dark malts and sweet caramel. Some more dry hops are hiding at the background. Full body, low carbonation. Decent Barley Wine.
3.5 Bottle 2015/2016. Dark colour, almost black, ruby reflexes, minimal head, barely any lacing. Aroma is lots of raisin, dates, fig, also bread. Alcohol well hidden. I cannot find hops aroma. Medium sweetness. Full body. Feels more Belgian than an English barley wine. Good but not spectacular.
3.3 Rami Rami is drinking a Warmer Winter Winter Warmer by Cigar City Brewing at garwolińska Utlenione, miodowe, przyprawowe, nieco owocowe, nieco chlebowe, nieco pali usto, nieco takie niezle i tyla... 3.3? 3.4? Rami Rami: 3.3 - bo jeszcze alko niemalo
2.9 Z: karmel, alko, jakiś utleniony miód, susz. S: karmelek, przypalony. Jest goryczka, trochę alko. Bez szału. Finisz taki przypieczony karmelek.
3.5 Butelka. Barwa brunatna z niewielką piana szybko uciekająca. solidnie nachmielone, karmel. Ciężkie w odczuciu w niewielkich ilościach dobre.
3.5 2015-2016. Porządne angielskie barley wine. Chmiele już ciut utlenione, ale w sumie nie przesadzone. Przyjemne, bez urywania.
3.9 Sarkynorthener 5k and faggots night. Bottle shared thanks to Richthevillan, cheers Rich. Almost black beer with small bead around rim. Aroma of toffee, dark malts and liquorice. Taste is pontefract cake, treacle, roasted malts and sticky dark fruit. Sticky palate. Very good.
3.9 Bottle during Sarkynorthener 5k and Faggot night via Cotteridge Wines; opaque brown pour with a creamy tan head, aroma has sweet toffee, taste has sweet toffee, hint of vanilla, some molasses, dark fruits.
4.0 Very deep dark brown and copper coloured body with a nice brown and slight ruby tint when held up to a light, all with a small two centimetre tall tan head that fades quite quickly to just about nothing on top. Aroma of alcohol, pitted fruits, prunes, figs, plums, grain, bourbon, vanilla and a dose of oak, but the sweetness and alcohol dominate. Full-bodied; Rich, dense mouthful, predominantly of sweetness, but also some more pungent alcohol and oak flavours along with some bourbon, grain, figs, earth, vanilla and prunes, but the alcohol and caramelised sugars really come through near the end. Aftertaste shows alcohol, caramelised sugars, grain, malt, earth, oak, bourbon, whiskey and a big dose of both figs/raisins and some noticeable vanilla pod flavours. Overall, a nice and incredibly strong beer that goes down quite easily, but is stronger than I can imagine with the harshness definitely rubbed off the edges and still showing some punch, but less so in the edges with the malt being a bit more easy to get down. Still, nice to try and perhaps a good amount of pungency for the style, but if you are seeking a lighter beverage or want to drink this immediately, you are probably better with a different beer. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 03-January-2014 for US$11,99 sampled at home in Washington, just a few hours before hopping on a flight back for Florida on 25-December-2017, Christmas Day.
3.8 Bottle "2015-2016". Very dark brown with small tan head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, biscuit, dark fruit, wood and hop. Flavour is malt, caramel, yeast, dark fruit, toasted, plume, sweet, warming, oak and medium bitter.
3.8 Bottle sourced from Kihoskh, shared at home with the Mrs - pours a dark brown colour with a nice beige head, Sweet malty with lots of caramel and toffee, some treacle, assortment of dried fruit, medium to full body, solid hoppy backing, sweet malty finish.
3.8 A really solid american barley wine (reminds me of a Old Numbskull). Balanced, heavy hopped (kind of bitter). Not to sweet or raisin like. Really a fine one.
3.7 Interesting aroma with some smoke, distinct maltiness, caramel, some oak and bourbon BA imapct somehow, dried fruits. Moderate sweetness with some bitterness and tartness. Enjoyable
3.8 Bottled. Pours deep brown with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted caramel, toffee and quite some citrus and apricot. Flavor with alcohol. Sweet taste that ends up being more dry and a little bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Barley indeed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
3.9 Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of molasses and raisins. Caramel flavors, with dark fruit and good bourbon barrel flavor.
3.7 750 ml. bottle. Pours a dark golden red with a nice tan head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, and malt. Taste is dark fruit, caramel, malt, spice, and alcohol. Very nice warming Barley Wine.
4.0 22oz bottle. Strong plum, molasses aroma and flavor. Can feel the alcohol. Nice combo of a quad with winter.
3.8 Tap at CCB, Tampa. Abv 12%. Copper color, small steady off-white head, lace. Aroma has dark sugar, malts and molasses. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Very malty, dark fruity, plum, raisin, molasses and caramalt. Notes of fresh wood too. A bit too raw brew for my liking. Re-rate bottle 650ml vintage 2015 in 2021: Sweet, mellow, plum, raisins. Great balance. (7/4/8/4/15 3.8)
4.2 Bottle pour, 2013/2014 cellar- hopped barley wine with dark fruit backbone. Aroma still present however naturally must have mellowed with age. Dark brown colour with a touch of ethanol from alcohol however 10% abv masked quite nicely.
3.8 Advertised at 12% at the brewery. Spicy brown with aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg. A big beer to say the least. No head but good flavor makes up for the appearance. Best one so far.
4.0 Bottle from 2014. Pours a muddy deep brown with small head that lasted about 20 seconds. Aroma is fruity with plums, peaches, prunes, and currants with some slight booze and barrel. The taste is similar with the aromatic fruits, thick barleywine style ale, and some booze on the finish. Well balanced though. Medium to full body, moderate carb. Slightly sweet. Really a great beer.
3.8 Tap at cigar city, tampa. Dark reddish brown color, tanned head. Aroma has malts, caramel, plums, some bourbon. Sweet body, plums, oak, raisins.
4.0 Current bomber purchased at CCB. Pour is dark cola color with very little head, which disappears quickly. Not a distinct nose, but one that is rather sweet with hints of caramel and toffee. Taste is very sweet and sticky, in a b good way. The high ABV is well hidden. Nice sipper.
3.8 October 23, 2015 - taster glass sample at Darkness Eve. Bottle shared by me. Lots of head and much sweeter than I expected.
3.9 Poured a clear dark red copper color with a tall khaki colored foamy head. The head became creamy on top as it settled. The aroma was on the mild side, predominately a sweet toffee scent with some spice. The beer had a nice creamy texture. There is alot of flavor here and pretty complex. Hints of chocolate, toffee, dark stone fruits and some mild hops come thru towards the finish. There is also a good sense of the alcohol in the flavor and a warmth from it as well. This is a good take on a Florida winter warmer. I sipped the bomber bottle all night watching the ballgame. No need for a winter warmer in August in Florida, but a pretty good brew none the less.
