Cigar City White Oak Jai Alai India Pale Ale

Cigar City White Oak Jai Alai India Pale Ale

This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

3.5 Can 0.355l from Beer Republic webshop, The Netherlands. 30.06.2020. Canned 06.05.2020. Pour it clear amberish color with small white head. Aroma nice woody, orange, light tropical fruits. Taste smooth sweet, orange, nice balanced tropical notes, after taste oak. Good shape after almost two months.
3.1 Hazy golden color with a rocky yet creamy white head. The white oak gives it a mild boozy aroma that is also slightly smokey. I really love Cigar City's Jai Alai IPA and I like the idea of trying to infuse it but the oak makes it excessively dry. The body is medium and there are undertones of citrus and peaches but the dryness destroys the pallet like a wrecking ball. I can honestly say I prefer the regular old Jai Alai over this one but it's certainly not a terrible beer by any stretch.
3.7 Appearance: translucent amber-light brown with small white fizzy head. Aroma: orange, grainy and spiced malt, lightly floral and creamy and sweet, woody, dank resin. Taste: orange, creamy and fizzy, dank resin, lightly spicy and leafy, faint incense. Body: medium, smooth, a bit creamy, resinous. Orange-y, malty, dank resin, a little musty/muddy. Like a Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA that’s slightly more orangey/creamy and sweet and oaky.
3.7 Can from Winerack at home. Dark peach-amber pour with fluffy white head. Aroma is dank melon honey vanilla. Definitely can smell the wood, but with an effervescent fuzzy melon hop. Very nice. Taste has an earthy boozy bitter bite, tempered by a mellow sweetness. While you can taste the wood and the effect works, it does also have the overall effect of a slightly older brassy piney malty IPA like a strong Sierra Nevada pale ale or Torpedo. Palate is smooth. Mellow booze. Very tasty.
3.9 I don't taste any wood. Gold body with thin white head. Aroma is a little oak, and lots of citrus and flowers. Full bodied taste hop forward, citrus and tang. Long hoppy finish. How many IBU does this have.
3.8 Can. Ripe orange, grapefruit, mango, mandarin, pineapple, elegant coconut and vanilla oak notes, very juicy flavour, light tannic bitter finish. Excellent.
4.1 In the paradise to find this beer, today, at the sterk, Amsterdam. Drinking it and enjoying with a wonderful Dutch cheese, in my rented house. What would you like more, in this life, good music, the nirvana. The body is copper, rather clear, average carbonation, white foam, at Hoofdropp. This ipa is good, warm alcool, woody, side of oak, perfect touch of sweetness with the vanilla, malty, wonderful hop, perfect bitterness, citrus, a bit resinous, rather complex, the best simply!!!!
5.0 Best ipa I have ever had, smooth not bitter guaranteed you will love if you like quality IPA’s
4.3 I was able to buy both regular Jai Alai and the White Oak version and compare them side by side. I have to say they seem almost identical except the White Oak adds another dimension to the taste with strong vanilla and butterscotch components that really compliment the already excellent flavor and qualities of this beer. I would say that this is the sipping/reflective beer and the standard version is for "everyday" drinking. Although I'd drink either of these any day!
4.5 (faut que je reboive la version non ‘oak’, parce que là, c’est vraiment sublime, > onctuo-pineuse, ∞-clever !) (mon palais s'affine, au fil du temps !!!!)
3.3 I like a normal jai alai - a quality number. I’m not sure the white oak adds much but a little strangeness - perhaps more pineapple/grapefruit. Decent.
3.2 14/20 not fresh and citrusy, aged, malty, deep oak taste. pretty, pretty good
4.0 Can @ Christianssand brygghus. Unclear golden body with a big, creamy white head. Aroma is citric fruity, smooth oak and vanilla. Flavor is really smooth with grapefruit, citric fruit, pale malt, oak, vanilla and fine bitterness. Nice body and long lasting smooth and bitter aftertaste. A really pleasant take on the oaked IPA.
3.8 Bottle, at Christianssand Brygghus. A hazy orange colored beer with a dense off-white finger thick head leaving lacing. The aroma has a touch of oak and some vanilla. Pine cones, citrus zest and a touch of resin, with a pleasant body. Nice carbonation, full to medium body and a decent bitterness. Fruity flavor, pine cones, grapefruit and resin, with a light flowery touch towards the end. A delicious one indeed. 190530
3.8 Tap (TCBW 2019). Clear dark amber color. Small size, beige head, stays. Citrus, caramel, oak, tannins, malty in aroma and in taste. Solid brew.
3.5 TCBW19. Clear amber, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, dill, oaky. Taste is malty, oaky, dill. Medium body, crisp carbonation. Good
3.8 Tap at TCBW. Pours amber. Aroma and flavor are sweet, bitter, hoppy, caramel, malt, citrus. Overall: very good IPA.
3.8 Poors clear amber, off-white lacing, lasting foam. Aroma is sr=trong hoppy, taste bitter, some vanille and wood. Good. (Velp 201909)
3.5 Tap @ TCBW. Grapefruit, grapes, caramel. Grapefruit with a caramel base and a hint of vanilla and ash. Nice IPA.
3.5 Pretty good though I might just prefer traditional fresh jai alai. Similar citrus bomb but this has some astringency in the taste from the oak, and an even drier than usual finish. Worth a try, well made.
3.4 12 ounce can from Three Cellars Menomonee Falls, 3/15/19. Slightly hazy amber, large frothy whiteish (barely off-white) head, good retention. Aroma of strong oak, vanilla, piney hops, pale malt. Taste is bitter hops... tropical and candied citrus... pale buttery malt. Some oak, maybe? Strong lingering bitterness, good balance.
3.6 Canned, 355 ml, from Beergium. Shared with Max and Bazz. Cloudy orange, small white head. Hoppy, pine, malty, some caramel, moderate bitterness finish. Smooth.
3.7 On tap at Cafe Sara. Golden with offwhite head. Malts, hops, Citrus, some bitterness.
3.9 Hazy copper with a white head. Aroma is citrus, pine, tropical fruit and wood. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter.
3.9 UPDATED 2/21/19: Cigar City sold out to big beer. Now is distributed further but noticing the quality going down a bit. Rating falls few points but this is still a solid beer. Has potential, but a tad too dry for me, like most of Cigar City's IPAs. Has that oaky/cedary taste, but that is the theme they are going for. Flavor is almost a 9 for me, lots of citrus/hops. Appearance is cloudy orange/yellow with a medium thick white frothy head...good lacing too. The Jai Alai series of IPAs are aight. Not my favorite out there, but glad to support a premium craft brewery from my home state. Still prefer their darker stuff though. UPDATED 2/18/13- This has become one of my new favorites. Still on the dry side, but not too dry as previously stated. Not sure if they changed the recipe at all....updated the flavor and overall to a 9. This is truly a gem.
3.8 Perfect the original. This does not compare.
4.7 2019 rating at the brewery! A near perfect IPA! Really enjoyed this one. What can I say. I’m nuts about Cigar City?!
0.9 Can from giant eagle market district. Is this just another ubiquitous IPA, is this rated high just because its CC? Just asking. And how about this? Is it rated high just because its a JA? Looks like typical clear pale IPA, was expecting a hazy beer considering the name. Nose gets sweet perfume fresh plastic kids shoe lace kids smell. Big rocky craggy head. Big sharp super sweet blasting ipa impressions, way over the top, cutting, bitchy punch in the palate. Nasty big ass wallop in the face, and then, it kicks yer big ass, fahmah kicks, mahfah yeah, kick yer ass. Terribly and full shit on bullshit style, no lie. Perhaps a little more rude and detailed compared to most IPA but its still the same; a big plant viscous mess of hop flowers. Chew on a decent tasting inner tube. Like IPA? Flip my numbers and go get insulted you he man. Mouth coating palate wrecking finish that never ends, thank you. Not impressed, way too far into the imperial IPA style. Well, at least ist beer and not stupid ass beer malt drink whanna bee.
3.9 Faintly cloudy copper orange with medium white head. Grassy citrusy hop aroma. Medium body with touch of carbonation. Moderately bitter citrus, hay, faint malt. Well balanced. Not sure I notice anything from the oak but a very nice IPA on its own.
4.5 140119. Can at home. Pours hazy copper with a nice head. Aroma oak, vanilla, citrus. Not all that IPA but oh so nice aroma. I could sniff this all day long. Smooth body. Nectar for the gods. Not Bad.
