Cisco Monomoy Kriek

Two year old Nantucket Flemish-style red aged on whole sour cherries for 10 months. This is similar to sipping the idea of what a "cherry" is... UNREAL.

2.3 At dark suds. Nice red color, heavy cherry nose. Big cherry up front, nothing but acetic acid in the finish. Vinegar kills this for me.
3.9 Bottle shared by Radarsock. Thanks, Andrew! Pours orange red with an off white head. Aroma is dark cherry, acetic. Taste is slighly sweet cherry up front, leading to strong lemon cherry tart. Lingering pucker.
4.0 Bottle. Ruby pour with tan head. Cherry, oak, tart fruit and vinegar aromas. Sour cherries, vinegar, oak and wine flavors, very tart.
4.1 750ml from DSchiller. Pours cloudy amber with a thin white head. The nose is sour fruits, salt water, vinegar. The taste is cinnamon, cherries, salted fruits and vinegar. Medium prickly mouthfeel. 4.1
3.3 Fruity acetic aroma cherry leather. Not prettty . cloudy red brown. Muddy. Tangy. Very sharp. Could use some balance.
3.8 Bottle: Thanks, Ed. 2008 bottle, I think. Dingy, muddled copper with a fizzly, beige head. Aroma of sour cherry, cherry skins, light vinegar, some acetic notes, lactobacillus just outside the realm of "yogurt-y", just a little touch of musty wood & hay in the finish. Taste has a larger damp oak presence up front; light vanilla, likely from the barrel, also a mild cinnamon draw, likely from the fruit. Sour & dry cherry skins with vinegar & lactic acid whetting the edges. Sourness grows over time & leads to a dry oak finish. Very nice sour kriek!
4.0 Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Dave. Thanks man. Pour is murky brown amber with a small tan head and good lacing. Tangy, sweet fruity, spice, red wine vinegar, oaky, caramelly, toffee, and lactic aroma. Taste is ripe cherries, graham crackers, vanilla, pie crust, tangy, woody, and raspberry skins with a lightly tart finish. Medium body with soft-medium carbonation. Nice cherry pie sour.
3.6 12th June 2014 Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Bruce for this one. Hazy red - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and crispy. Nice level of sourness, ie not too much. Zippy cherry and a touch of lemon. Finishes dry refreshing.
3.7 Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to our host with the most, 12/06/14. Hazed chestnut brown with reddish hues topped with a moderately sized light beige swirl. Nose is tarte cherries, fruit balsams, light acidic waftings, straw, dank berry woodness. Taste comprises tarte cherry skins, berry fruit balsamics, mild acidity, straw, wooden rinse. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Nice sour, good balance.
3.9 Bottle shared in London - thanks to Bruce. Pours murky purple with a frothy, off-white head. Good, earthy cherry nose, light funk, grape skin. Light to medium sweet flavor with crisp, zippy sour berries, cherry, light acidic, slight metal. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. Clean finish with background jammy sweetness, nice ripe, tart cherries, a bit of tongue-blister sour bite, slight alcohol warmth. Well rounded, very nice.
3.7 Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours hazy deep red with minimal head. The nose is tangy, sweet cherry, jammy fruits, wood and a touch of barnyard. The taste is crisp, tart, ripe cherry, cherry pie, lemon sherbet, wood, tangy, jammy, very mild acidity with a dry, lightly tart finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Not overly sour or acidic. A very approachable and drinkable sour.
4.0 Bottle @ home, via trade. Carbonation is pretty dull based on the cork popping. Pours a deep orange appearance with light head. Aroma is full of delicious tart pie cherries with a touch of vinegar and some wood. Definitely some caramel and brown sugar along with a really delicious pie cherry filling flavor. Carbonation is almost nonexistant. Really unfortunate on the carbonation but the beer is otherwise quite enjoyable.
4.0 Bottle to glass. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a thin rim of light tan head. Aroma is dry, sweet cherry, tart. Flavor is potently tart! Makes the face pucker! But in a good way. Light cherry sweetness. Light to medium in body with a strong lingering sour. Very tasty!
4.3 Taste from a 750ml bottle. Hazy dark red color. Thin off-white, kind of khaki head. Loose bits of lace. Wow! Very nice, big oaky sour cherry nose. Awesome big sour taste, light spicy wood, big sour cherry to the aroma, and a mild funk. Light bit of cheesy creaminess. Medium to bigger body, lightly sticky. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Awesome long sour cherry aftertaste. Fantastic stuff! One of the best American krieks I’ve had in a while... Much better than expected!
3.9 bottle pours hazy pink red. oak, funk, cherry,. taste has underlying sweetness before it turns very tart and acidic. body is slick, sour lingers.
3.8 Pours a dirty red color with smell minimal head. The smell is oak, dull cherry, a bit of vinegar. The taste is sour cherry, hint of cinnamon with wood and a lot of dryness. Light in body with elegant carbonation.
4.3 2013 bottle drunk on 2/23/14 Dark black cherry-brownish-red body pours bright, leaving the sediment behind and a large beige head is slow to recede. Beautifully aromatic nose is full of all kinds of tart acids. From acetic to lactic with plenty of malic fruit acids as well. Oak character and vanilla are light but notable and some lightly sweet caramel malts round out the aroma providing just a touch of sweet balance. Black pepper and cherry pit dryness linger on nicely. No alcohol or flaws. Every bit as true and authentic as the best Belgian krieks. Tart acids and a near wine-like fruitiness wash over the palate carried on by tight, ample carbonation with a slick, lightly oily mouthfeel. Sourness builds and continues to dry the palate until a quick shot of sweet, caramel and vanilla-like maltiness softens things on the finish before more cherry meat and pit flavor lingers on. Nicely sour rendition, but the malt and barrel character are neither overdone or lacking, either. Plentiful, authentic cherries are icing on the cake. The Woods series is definitely the real deal.
3.6 From a 75 cl bottle shared at home on Christmas eve. Pours a hazy amber with a thin off white head. Tart cherry nose. Flavors of sour cherry, white pepper and a touch of green apple. Medium bodied, low carbonation, tart, crips finish.
4.1 4/6/2012. 22 oz. bottle. Pours deep ruby red with a short white head. Aromas are funky from the yeast with malt and of course the cherries. Sour and tart, balanced and complex and right up there with some of the better Belgian Krieks.
3.7 Sampled from a bottle at Where the Wild Beers Are - October 5, 2013. Reddish/amber pour. Tart cherries all over this. Very tasty.
3.8 cisco’s sours are always a bit fun .. . pours a deep mahogany .. medium foam .. . cherry, cherry pits, sour jolly ranger, and dirty cherry skin .. . slick mouth .. . another good wild from cisco .. . . stop over winding my vibrating bear!!
3.8 750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours amber with a very small head. Aroma of cherries, a nice tartness and funkiness, plus a nice pale maltiness. Flavor the same with a nice tart, cherry finish. Average texture. A pretty good Kriek.
4.0 750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of sour cherry, spice, carmel and pepper. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry tart finish. Flavors of sour cherry, spice, carmel and light earthiness with a crisp dry tart lingering spiced cherry finish.
4.4 Pours ruby amber with a sandy colored head. It smells amazing, like sweet cherry soda, so fresh even after sitting on it for a few years. The flavor is delicious as well juicy cherries with a tart, perfectly dry ending. The tartness is there for sure, not super sour, just right. The cherries held up so well!
4.0 Pours hazy red with a small pink head. The nose is tart cherries, raspberry, light vinegar, lemons, funk. The taste is medium high sweet, high sour and very low bitter. The texture is crisp and clean, nice tannins, the body is light and finish is long.
3.5 Bottle poured a red amber color with a wisp of off white foam and a still look in the glass. Aroma has tart cherry, light acidity, fruit skins, and a Flemish red base. Mouth feel is light and unfortunately mostly flat. Flavor has medium acidity, cherry, some minerals, and a red base. The beer itself could be nice but the lack of carbonation is killer.
3.6 Bottle:   Deep caramel, slight dark reddish hue, very thin sudsy white head, dies instantly, leaving no lacing.   Aged on oak and sour cherries, its what I expected at least.   Very much a Duchess like aroma, cherry, lactic tartness, and woody.   Tart and semi dry up front, cherry like, oakish, and very natural.   Has a slight sweetness that isnt as artificial as Duchess.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Cherry, oak, and a dry/tart finish.   Has a slight pie cherry like sweetness but its dominated by more of a tart/dry aspect.   Simple, yet tasteful.
4.2 On tap @ barcade philly. Aroma of sweet tart cherries, slight stilton cheese, and red apple peel. Pours hazy red brown with slight film. Taste is very tart with immediate notes of underripe sour cherry and crabapple. Great notes of rhubarb, apple core and slight cheese funk. Just terrific and very tart!
4.0 Backlogged. Bottle shared with Annie baby in January of 2011. Poured a blood red color with medium to large thich head with great lacing, Aromas and flavor of sour cherry, black cherry, funky barn, wood, vanilla, and other rich notes. Mouthfeel was super thick but still tameable. Just so much residual cherryness left in the mouth. Awesome sour, my favorite Cisco to date. Cheers
3.9 Bottle in support of Massachusetts for the afc championship game, I had good luck with the pedelar last Sunday. Pours like a glass of Beaujolais with zero head. Great smell of sour cherries. Low carbonation. Tastes of cherries, oak, vinegar, earth, light cough syrup. Very pleasant with nice finish.
