A heavy strong stout brewed with coffee, brown sugar and oats. With its powerful quality and morning ingredients it seems parallel to a solid dawn session at Blacks. An inside connection to boutique roasted fare trade beans we were granted the opportunity to make this exceptional brew.

3.533cl bottle. Dark black brown. Thin brown head. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Aroma and flavour is coffee, fruity, roasted.
4.41 pint bottle purchased @ Rock Out Shop.
W punkt.
3.1On tap at the Phantom Carriage. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Coffee and roast on the nose, dusty, malt, roast. Medium bodied, thins a touch, roast, cocoa, papery roast with a bit of cooked peppers. Roast into the finish, chocolate, cocoa. Papery, and somewhat old tasting.
3.7It pours dark brown, almost black with a brown head. Initial aroma is a deep, dark roasted coffee. There are also moderate roasted elements in the aroma. There is a faint dark fruit smell well into the background. The initial flavors are a combination of coffee and roast. There is a bit of spiciness to it. The are also backgrounds hints of wood and dark fruits. It has a smooth texture to it and is moderately bitter in the finish with sweetness combining with bitterness at the end. Overall, this is a malt driven beer with coffee and roasted elements. Other flavors are well into the background and enhance the malts.
3.4Piana niewielka, sycząca, szybko opada prawie do zera.
3.5My first from this Californian brewing company, heavy stout with added coffee. Bottle from Beergium, with different label than the one shown here. Yellowish pale beige, moussy head retaining as a dense rim and some flat, tan ’islands’ in the middle, crowning a black beer with hazy mahogany brown edges, the colour being visible for about five millimeters inwards. Aroma of cold coffee with milk, very old black chocolate and ’crude’ baker’s chocolate, moldy walnuts, tree leaves, old tea, cooked parsnip, brown rum, wet leather, dried fig, stewed beef with a lot of bayleaf in it, mud, freshly cut horseradish, a kind of ’green’ quality of raw spinach leaves, subtle accents of soy sauce, wet dog and dried blackcurrant. Clean onset, ’dull’ dried berry sourishness imbedding a vague fig-like sweetish core, umami effects of dry chicken stock cubes coming up shortly after that and quite expressively so, medium carbo, thick and lightly greasy mouthfeel but not as viscous as is often the case in this style. Thick nutty malt core, again vaguely sweetish but immediately turned towards a fairly strong toasted bitterness, exhibiting increasing coffeeish aspects towards the finish, where the added coffee indeed reveals itself clearly - but sadly not as aromatically and ’ethereal’ as I was hoping for. Ends a bit harsh and crude, with this toasted malt bitterness going down alongside the coffee grounds-like flavours, a herbal hop bitter aspect and softly but unmistakably warming, wodka-like alcohol. Bitter black coffee flavours remain stuck to the throat after swallowing, as I assume was the intention. Not sure about this one: it has an earthy, bit ’dirty’ quality to it which I was not expecting, and the coffee factor should have been more expressively aromatic, though the coffee flavour as such is certainly there; let’s say that I was expecting a fine Italian ristretto rather than drab, dull and ’generic’ coffee grounds from a coffee machine. Needs finetuning and a lot more personality to stand out in a sea of great American stouts.
3.7Początkowo jakby żelazo, szybko znika. Mocna dominacja kawy i paloności. Dobrze ukryty alkohol. Długie, dość słodkie, palone posmaki. Bdb.
3.0Bottle (as "Cismontane Imperial Stout with Coffee Added", 8.5% from beergium). Pours dark brown with light brownish head. Aroma is beany, coffee, roast, fruits, sour notes, booze. Flavor is sweet and bitter, beany, coffee, malt, fruits, fructose, roast, something medicinal - iodine maybe. Finish is coffee and sweetness with more beaniness and booze. Overall: feels like kind of crappy recipe and beany coffee notes are just trying to cover it. Then again I can drink it without effort, so not even close to the sh*t zone for me.
3.3Bottle from Beergium. Aroma is dark fruits, coffee, mocha, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, touch of vanilla, berries, charred wood. Flavour is above moderate sweet and bitter with a hint of sour. Body is medium. Curious one, lots of coffee and berries/fruits, unexpected note of sour, bit rough, complex or flawed? I’m not sure to be honest. Anyway, interesting to say the least, good coffee.
1.316oz Bottle
It was for sale at the Beer and Wine store for $5.99.
I’d never heard of this brewery or the beer so I said, "What the heck. Why not?"
On the Pour:
It was very opaque. I could see, right from the start, that it was WAY too over-filtered (my pet peeve).
The head was only light khaki. The color you’d expect from a pale beer.
Aroma:
Coffee and some lightly roasted grains. That’s it.
Flavor:
The mouthfeel was alright. More than I thought it would be but still not great from what I expect from a stout.
The coffee was the overwhelming flavor. behind that was some roasted malt. But mostly coffee.
BUT. And this is a big ’But’.
When the canister of coffee tells you to mix 5 tbsp of coffee to 5 cups of water, but instead you mix 2 tbsp of coffee to 5 cups of water… That is the strength of coffee that I’m getting. It’s the only flavor but it’s very faint.
I’m not impressed AT ALL.
This was not a good first impression of this brewery. And I probably will not sample any of their other beers if I come across them.
3.6Keg at The Hanging Bat. Dark brown, brown head. Nose is big coffee, quite sweet, chocolate. Tastes chocolate, coffee, sweetish, roast. Misses sth.
1.8Pours an opaque dark brown color with khaki colored head. Burnt grain, and a sugary sweetness on the nose, weird aroma; same for the palate. The malt almost tastes smoked or burnt. Very off flavors.
2.9Pours a deep black color with a roasted oats aroma. Taste is clean, roasted malt flavor with a a dry coffee aftertaste.
3.5Bottle pours out dark brown almost black topped with a small head. Nose is coffee chocolate sweetness green pepper spice a dark roast. Taste is more of the coffee acidic notes chocolate plenty roast malts and that pepper note.
2.4At brewery. One of the worst coffee stouts I have ever had. Taste like Greene I roasted coffee beans. Astringent and gross aroma is the same. Nice head.
4.2Bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a near black with a khaki head of foam. Moderate coffee comes through in the aroma with supporting chocolate and a subtle toffee. Sweet and a bit roasty. Thicker mouthfeel. Big bodied and moderate carbonation.
3.6Collective on Tap, Woodinville. Creamy brown-black with great cream head. Relatively mild roasty malt aroma, grainy sweet malt body. Barrel-like creamy alcohol, mellow, sweet. Pretty tasty and smooth.
2.7Shared 1 pint .9 oz. bottle poured to snifters, showing a ruby highlighted, black brown hue, with a presentable layer of brownish tan head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was green peppers and roasted coffee. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation, the taste was dry & roasted, with a hint of fels naptha-like soapiness, and tar & earthy bitterness. Somewhat abrasive, and didn’t finish the sampler amount.
3.6500ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of coffee, a touch of vanilla, fruity hints of blue grapes. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolately dark malty, hints of coffee, fruity notes of dark berries, blue grapes, dry overtones of corresponding fruit parings. Relatively light, more sessionable than kind of a sipper.
3.822 oz bottle pours black with a brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and grain. Taste is coffee and chocolate.
4.1Bottle, at Clayton’s.
Huge Borgogne aroma. Velvet. Leather. Chocolate. Molasses. Taste is chocolate, red wine,, velvet,. Molasses, burnt roasted malt and butter from Pediococcus I am sure. A fascinating beer and great to style. Note this is not at all infected. What a pleasant surprise!
3.4Dark black. Heavy and oily at same time. Kinda bitter at first then rounds out to coffee. Roasted. Ok but not worth seeking out. Would like this thicker. Tasted at cuginos.
4.3Jet black pour with a tan head. Very nice aromas of dark roast coffee, dates, raisin, licorice toffee and black treacle. Full bodied brew. Flavours of smoke, sweet spice, lots of dark roast coffee and dark chocolate. Dry, smoky finish. Very tasty stuff.
3.8On tap. Comes black with a nice tan head. Aroma of malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and some vanilla. Nice.
4.7Pours black with a beige head from the bottle with lots of roast and coffee notes on the nose. taste is bold and full of chocolate and toffee. Not too heavy and loooong finish!
3.5Black with a beige head. Powdered cocoa, burnt malt, roasted coffee. A bit brown sugar sweetness. Finish has a hefty booze note. Pretty good but a bit too burnt malt for my liking.
3.7Poured from a 500 mL bottle into a Porter Bar goblet. .
Appearance: black with short head of brown foam. .
Aroma: moderately strong aromas of dark coffee and dark roasted grains. Hints of vanilla and alcohol.
Flavor: Lightly sweet; lots of dark roasted grain and a moderate amount of fine coffee. Hints of chocolate and vanilla.
Mouthfeel: Rich, full body with a good level of light carbonation; very smooth.
Overall: a satisfying RIS that makes good use of coffee but leans towards a milk stout.
