Clown Shoes Eagle Claw Fist

Clown Shoes Eagle Claw Fist

Eagle Claw Fist utilizes the same Chico yeast that shaped Hoppy Feet and Brown Angel. Canadian Two Row, English Crystal, and a little English Black Patent malt provide a sweet, balanced backbone. Simcoe, Centennial, and Citra work together to create a unique hop assault, with an intense bitterness that manages to leave your palate in one piece and is harmonized by the flavors of tropical fruits and flowers. The finish is dry.

3.5 Bottle from Plonk (November 2013). Dark amber/brown, 3cm off-white head, citrus, spicy/herbal, rich, sweet malt, golden syrup, full body, thick texture, dry bitter finish. Nice.
2.7 Sampled at Rapids Liquor tasting. Dusty, peppery, malty aroma. Taste is not good in the beginning, transitioning to a cracker malt finish.
3.6 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, hop, caramel, alcohol. Flavour is roasted malt, hop, caramel, alcohol, pine. Nice beer.
3.6 Reviewed from notes. The appearance has a hazy amber body that leaves a one finger white foamy head and lasts for a minute. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen. Some spotty lacing coats the sides of the glass. The smell has some citrus, pine and hops up front combined very nicely. The taste brings back the hops over top of the citrus and pine. On the palate, it sits about a light to medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, sessionable. Overall, this is a great beer that I would no doubt have again. Thought it seems close to an IPA (smell and taste), it still is something worth seeking out.
3.6 650ml bottle from Benzai. Thanks! Color is dark red, brown. Head is thin. Body is nicely smooth, but sticky. Taste is light to medium sweet with nice bitterness. Aroma is caramel, lollypop, fruit, hop.
3.4 75cl bottle @ The 2nd Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of Paulo. Very hoppy from the off with a eager bitterness squeezing the life out of those tropical hops. Its tongue numbing dryness gets a bit much though and I would’ve welcomed a bit more fruitiness. Still, a good introduction to this brewer for me.
3.7 Final beer of the second Shrewsbury Bottle Share on 24th Feb 2014: cheers Paulo for bringing this brew along for the four of us the split. A red hue to this amber bodied beer, on top a well tanned crown. Intense floral hop nose with citrus notes in the background vying for attention with some semi-sweet molasses. The hops carry on into the taste, again with a citrus undertone to the bitter, dry front: the malts creeping into the taste later and giving a mini balance to the otherwise prevailing hop content. A good beer to finish on, tests your taste buds and leaves you wanting more: a very interesting brew, hides it’s alcohol well within the flavours.
3.7 Bottle @ Sommerhus, Saltum. Pours dark amber with a creamy offwhite head, leaving some nice lacings. Aroma of malt, caramel, light bread, hops, grapefruit, resin. Flavor is bready malt, caramel, little stale, but bitter hoppy, grapefruit, pine, resins. Medium body, soft carbonation, long lasting bitter finish. 220214
3.7 Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is huge hops, caramel, liquorice, big piney sweaty hops dominating. Flavour is huge bitter "wrange" hops, sticky sweet malt, bready and caramel and more. Nice.
3.6 Bottle.Pours amber with a creamy off-white head.Aroma of malt, nuts, caramel, fruitiness, flour and citrus hops. Flavor is sweet and bitter with some orange peel, caramel, grains and chocolate. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.7 Bottle. 22oz. A dense, off-white head forms over an unclear, amber colored body. The aroma has a lovely maltyness blending with the citrusy, piney hops. Caramel hints. It’s quite bitter in the flavor, with caramel maltyness and resins and pine cones. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting finish with a lot of bitterness. Overall, a really nice one, although a bit one dimensional bitter. Yeah I know it’s malty too, but still. 131231
3.4 Bottle 650ml @ Geokkjer Pours clear dark amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits and citrus and grape. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long caramel and citrus fruity bitter and slightly dry finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.
3.6 From Voldby, DK. Bottled, 201113. Amber with white head. Aroma of hop spices and malt. Flavor with caramel, light fruit and hops
3.4 Sotet bibor szine van, habja kozepes, kitarto. Illata gyumis, malatas, komlosan fenyos. Ize is ilyen, edeskesen kezd, gyumis, kesernyes, kicsit faradt. Utoize keseredes, kicsit faradt.
3.5 Petite bière fort sympathique. Couleur ambrée, notes de fruits exotiques et de fruit rouges. Quelques touches de caramel et de sucre candi.
3.5 Sample at the Molen monthly tasting. thin creamy white head. Clear amber pour. Nice bitterness. Very drinkable
3.4 Sampled from bottle @ monthly De Molen tasting. Nice reddish color, medium sized beige head that leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma has malts, lightly hops, lightly sweetness. Taste malts, hops, tea, bitter. Dislike the tea flavors in there. Decent body, medium carbonation.
3.5 Bottle at 2nd tuesday tasting @ De Molen, hosted by dEnk. Clear amber pour, thin white head. Aroma is spicy, well hopped with grass, tea, and grapefruit. Flavor is quite bitter, with a decent spicy malty backbone. A bit off balance but with a decent body.
3.6 Pretty nice looking, poured the bomber into a tall 20oz imperial pint glass, topped off with the last couple ounces. Rusty copper colored, some haze, many small, fine rising bubbles, a tannish head that had pretty good staying power and left good lacing. I’ve seen this beer listed or spoken of as different styles, imperial amber, amber ale, American strong ale, but I’m really getting an almost barleywine vibe from this one. Aroma has that heavy, pungent maltiness of a barleywine, but a little more of the smooth caramel malts, toffee, and bread. Flavor is reminiscent of a barleywine too, but a little smoother, with lots of maltiness, a touch of chocolate malt maybe, some toffee and caramel, some crackers and breadiness, topped off with a heaping helping of bitterness. Body is thick and chewy with a bitter finish, leaving lingering pungent malts and lingering bitterness. Alcohol is not very noticeable. It’s quite a tasty barleywine for an American amber/imperial red/strong ale/whatever it is. I did rather enjoy it tho, will have to try something else from Clown Shoes.
3.6 22oz bottle, aroma of pine and caramel, appearance is cloudy light brown with a light tan head, taste is carbonated with grass and burnt popcorn, finishes dry and bitter, overall good beer with a little too bitter of a finish
3.1 22 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy copper color with a large bubbly beige head. Big toasted malt nose with notes of burnt sugar and alcohol. Lots of toasted malt and bitter hops. Hints of burnt caramel, resiny hops and overdone microwave popcorn. There area lot of flavors going on here. A bit disjointed.
3.9 A: Deep Reddish/Brownish Hue, Passes Mild Light, White Head, Great Lacing S: Piney, Grainy T: Piney, Biscuits, Mild Bittering Hops M: Great Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Bitter, Mildly Grainy Overall, a pretty nice imperial red hoppy beer with nice blend.
3.8 Dark Red with fine white lacing. Aroma is burnt toffee and marmelade . Flavour continues with toffee, dried orange peel and spruce gum
3.6 Dark red pour with a baby finger of head. Aromas still fairly hoppy, some toffee in there as well. Piney hops, toffee, fairly sweet, some citrus fruit in there as well. Slight burnt character in there as well. Wouldn’t mind a fresher sample but with a bit of age on this its still pretty good
3.5 Bottled. Pours slightly hazy amber with a lacing, off-white head. Aroma of burned malt, pine and some citrussy hops. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and with some bitterness. Medium bodied, oily text. and soft carb. An excellent brew.
3.7 Pours a dark red with an everlasting tan head. Smells of lots of caramel malt with some piney scent from the hops. Taste is up front caramel what you’d expect from an amber, but also a load of piney and a bit of citrusy hops. Roasted malt notes are also detectable. Finishes extremely bitter and dry at the end of the palate. Mouthfeel/carb are pretty spot on for the style. I like my ambers hopped up, and this is a good beer, but I think they missed on the profile a little bit. Everything ends up being a bit too bitter when the roasted malts and piney hops are added together. Maybe a bit more lean toward a citrusy hop could have made it a tad less harsh.
3.7 Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy dark amber pour with thin white head, pine and mandarin, grapefruit taste a hint rye spice, caramel some tropical hop.
2.8 pours dark amber with a red tint and a small lt tan head. This beer is bitter and piney!! There is citrus and floral flavors , lots of hops and bitter, bitter, bitter!!
3.7 hazy red-brown with a medium off-white head with long retention and good lacing. biscuit, stone fruit, toffee, mango, resin, citrus. very bitter, medium sweet. full body, oily feel, little warmth
3.4 Bottle:   Amber, moderate frothy sandy head, spott lacing.   Soft pithy nose, faded pine and citrus.   Similar tongue, much more pithy that I expected to the point it seems a little astringent.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Decent malt base.   Finishes with a slightly earthy malt and pithy citrus peel.   Could use some more sweetness.
