Clown Shoes Genghis Pecan Pie Porter - 2012-2013

Clown Shoes Genghis Pecan Pie Porter - 2012-2013

Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

3.5 Poured from a bottle. Dark brown color, no real head. Medium malt aroma. Medium body with a full sweet malt flavor and a medium finish.
3.2 (tap) clear very dark brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of roast, pecans; dryish, nutty flavour, unexceptional
3.5 Bomber. Nose is nutty, indeed, with heavy dark chocolate and brown sugar, pie spice with wood and a little bourbon, malt. Pours pitch with a large, tight light brown head. Taste is sweet, malty medium body thin at points, but creamy and rich at others; bit airy with a yeasty/mineral touch behind light fruitiness, some bourbon barrel but for deft rounding, and a nice subtle wood component. The pecan element isn’t overdone, just a bit of lipid fullness and I think some mild scorch, but the stronger dark chocolate is sultry and whatever porter is the base is nice. Smooth and satisfying.
3.7 Bottle from Brewdog online shop via Stuu666, Cheers! Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, nuts. Taste is more of the same. Medium body, roasty finish. Solid porter.
3.3 Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Light pecan, nuts, other malt aromas. Light nutty tones, sweet chocolate and other tones.
3.3 Bottle (65 cl) from Systembolaget. Black with beige head. Nutty, roasted chocolate aroma, some liquorice. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Dry, salty bitterness.
3.6 Svart med ett brunt skum. Doft: Rostat, kakao, kola, övermogen frukt, collinstreets julkaka, rostat korn, alkohol. Smak: Kaffe, rostat korn, lakrits, jord, kanderade nötter och återigen julkakan med smält smör åvanpå.
3.1 Wish list item bottled in October. Nothin wrong with it but not nearly as good as I’d hoped. A decent chocolaty roasted porter with an additional unidentifiable sweetness that I can also guess was pecan. Didn’t leave much of an impression."
3.7 August 10, 2014. Bottle, 2013 vintage. Pours dark brown with a small dense dark tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate, roasted malt, chocolate, pecan, caramel. Taste is light to medium sweet nutty and caramel with light to medium bitter roasted chocolate note. Finish is nutty, milky and medium roasted bitterness. Medium bodied, average carbonation.
4.1 Incredibly good smell of chocolate and coffee. Lovely coffee flavor is what strikes me. Wonderful bitterness that fills the mouth forever. Truly a easy porter to drink. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.3 Luktar lite vanilj och brända nöt toner. Smakar bra. Tydligt nötsmak med lagom sötma. På det hela taget en bra öl.

3.8 Bottle 1 pt 6 fl oz thanks to Knä (not on ratebeer) Sampled on August 23, 2014. Marked 2013, BB 2014-12-05. Dark/black color, dark brown head. Sweet, alcohol, malty, chocolate scent. Malty, light acidic, ash, grainy taste. Roasted aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Some ripe banana in the scent as well. Also sweet, charcoal taste.
3.6 Bottle courtesy of ”Knä” (non-RB). Pours blackish brown with a creamy and frothy mocha head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny sweet and tiny malty with roasted malts, dark bread, walnuts, hay, liquorice, coffee, bitter chocolate and soil. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter and slightly malty with roasted malts, caramel, dark bread, hay, soil, chocolate, coffee, walnuts, maple syrup and liquorice. Mouthfeel is soft, round, very tiny watery and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and slightly malty with roasted malts, dark bread, coffee, walnuts, hay, soil, maple syrup and liquorice. Quite good…
3.6 Good with a twist. Roasted malt and wood or earthy aroma. Dark brown and murky. Lighter than expected palate. Smooth with good carbonation. Standard roasted flavors of a Porter but deeper and more dry. A hint of wood and earth touched by pecan, which I found more subtle. Enjoyed it.
3.7 Pours black with thick, tall tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, light vanilla and maybe hints of pecan, nuts of some sort at least. Taste is dry, chocolate and vanilla before a roasty coffee finish. Fairly light but creamy and smooth body with soft carbonation.
3.8 Pours black with a large frothy mocha head. Aroma is quite sweet with roasted malts, pecans, brown sugar, slight berry tartness, chocolate. Taste is chocolate, brown sugar, roasted nuts, faint berry tartness. Moithfeel is surprisngly dry with medium carbonation.
3.7 Bottle shared at BrewDog, Bristol. Pours almost black with a small tan coloured head. Aroma of roasted chocolate, toast, caramel, molasses and nut. Medium body with fairly soft carbonation. Very good.
3.3 650ml brown bottle, label featuring a Mongolian warrior fighting off turkeys with pie, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is a dark nearly black mahogany colored with a medium large foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and brown sugar. Flavours of roasted malts, brown sugar, dark chocolate, rye sourdough bread and a hint of nutty notes. Taste is medium-heavy sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-full bodied, thick texture and average carbonation. Clown Shoes Genghis Pecan Pie Porter is decent overall, it’s too sweet and the pecans are barely detectable in the flavour.
3.6 Overall: Sweet, dark roasted malt, ashes, Dark cocoa. Note: Bottle 650 ml at home. (Vintage 2013) Reviewed 2014-08-08.
3.9 Pours a dark reddish brown. Aroma and taste are pecans, brown sugar, and chocolate.
3.7 22oz bottle. Pours almost black, with a brown head. Roasted, spicy aroma, chocolate, licorice, hops, coffee, maybe faint hints of nuts (?), tar, mint. Off-dry, full bodied, mid bitterness, creamy CO2. Roasted, spicy, hoppy taste, licorice, mocha, herbs, coffee, chocolate, caramel, slightly earthy. Well balanced and smooth, long finish with notes of licorice and eucalyptus (!). I don’t really get the pecan flavours, though. (2014-08-05)
3.3 Pre-DLD bottle share at Hampton Inn. Pour is light brown with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor of semi-sweet chocolate, light roast, burnt cocoa, and raisins. Finish is dry and a bit sweet.
3.8 Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pecans, nuts, earth, malt, figs, raisins and a touch of smoke! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a very deep pungent toasty flavour and even more pit fruits noticeable, all with some light caramel and smoked peat notes as well. Aftertaste is rich and complex with the full flavours of nuts and earth really meshing well with the sweetness of the caramel and pit fruits. Overall, a nice porter with a huge nuttiness (expected) and a defined sweet flavour from the caramel and pit fruits (not expected) make this great to drink. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 30-March-2014 for US$7.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 15-June-2014.
3.7 Bottle at home. Bitter roasted chocolate, dry, light salty pecan, could do with more nutty flavour but its not bad.
3.7 22 ounce bottle, 2013 vintage, bottled on 09/17/13. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that sticked around for a while. There’s a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like pecans/nuts, brown sugar, roasted malt, caramel, and some chocolate. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there’s also some coffee, vanilla and dark fruit noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. I wouldn’t exactly call this a pecan pie porter because I didn’t think the nuttiness was all that strong, but it’s still a good beer that I’d buy again. $8.99 a bomber.
4.7 duft: karamel. kandis, ristet malt. kiks. lidt soja duft også dog meget svagt smag: karamel. sødme. ristet brød, kiks. god fylde i øllet. kakao eftersmag.
3.8 22 ounce bottle I have been wanting to try this for a while so when I had a quiet evening it was the first to get opened. An excellent release lives up to the name on the label. If you like Derby pie and coffee then this is the perfect beer for you. Aroma / Appearance - A fluid rich base supports a growing mocha head that surges before slowly collapsing like melting snow. Pecans, dark chocolate, and coffee lend a creamy texture that is a bit unusual for a porter. The presence has a sweet dessert presence. Flavor / Palate - Coffee and dark chocolate form a foundation for the maltiness that follows. After a few seconds pecans rise up to sit on top. The warm cocoa of the finish caps off a balanced experience with a handful of marshmallows. Drink this with dessert for a great pairing.
