Colorado Vintage Black Rapadura

Colorado Vintage Black Rapadura

2.8 Bottle at PIB 2016, pours a red-tinted dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma brings out lots of dark fruits, some sherry oxidation and a touch of roast. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of dark fruits and sherry oxidation. A little off but still pleasant. Okay.
3.7 Draught at Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Opaque black beer with a nice beige head. Cocoa aroma, chocolate, licorice, fruity, raisins, caramel, some tar. Roasted chocolate flavor, licorice, caramel, raisins and figs, some warming alcohol. Ful bodied and quite nice.
3.5 sample at mondial de la bière, mtl. unclear dark brown pour with a very nice reviving light beige head, nice lacing. lots of burnt caramel maltiness, coffee roastiness, sweet coffee, burnt sugars, never ashy though, star anise, other spices, some wooden ones as well; clean yeast. moderate carbonation, light to medium body - oily; warming if not a bit boozy spicy finish. a rather spicy and burnt caramel-driven stout.
3.8 600 ml bottle with a production date that I can’t decipher. Pours a near pitch black with an inch of tan foam. Minimal lacing. The smell is fruity, roasty, very sweet from the malt and cane sugar. I can’t not mention how up in my nose the alcohol is. Roasted malt, chocolate, sugary sweet malt, hints of licorice in the taste along with a strong alcohol presence. Something tells me that this isn’t the freshest bottle out there but perhaps that’s a good thing. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Despite the strong alcohol notes, I’m enjoying the slow sips that I am taking.

2.9 Aroma: chocolatey, a little burned; good; Appearance: thick tan head over a pitch black body; Taste: extremely sweet and reminiscent of the honey beer; some underlying bitterness and roastiness; Palate: heavy mouthfeel with long, sweet finish; Overall: better than expected; probably wouldn’t buy again due to better alternatives.
3.9 Bottle from Gold Rush Liquors in Anchorage. Colour...dark brown with a thick tan head. Nose...burnt sugar, molasses and turbinado. Palate...a bit thin for an impy stout, but quite flavourful with robust charred sugars, over cooked molasses, burnt Devils food cake and anise infused chocolates. The finish is long and broad shouldered.
3.3 Quite black. Thick beige head. Thick. Chocolate. Black cherries. Cola. Somewhat harsh at first, but then smooths out as you chew on it.
